QuoteThere's already at least one book out there that has a lot of material in it titled Demo Details: Parachute Demonstration Performances by Byron T. Dormire.Quote I have that one. It's a good book. Highly recommended.

Quote How do you pack a hard pull? What can you possibly do to a slithery pilot chute that makes it want to stay in an elastic sock?Quote A tight, new BOC pouch can do it. A bunched up pilot chute can do it. There's probably more, but I can't think of em' right now.

Shoulder seperations in freefall without impact.
Genn replied to GigaBuist's topic in Safety and Training
Although I have a shoulder injury, I haven't yet had this problem. However, a friend of mine had his shoulder come out after launching off the camera step. He was in a great deal of pain and flew a HP canopy. Luckily, he landed w/o incident. He flared with both toggles in his hand. -
Socks w/ sandles are extremely lame, I agree.. I like to mix em up..It makes socks more interesting

My SO was jumping his stiletto at the time....not his CRW canopy....it was at a low altitude after a freefall jump.

Is it OK/allowed to do an aff level at a different dropzone?
Genn replied to Muenkel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do whatever you feel comfortable with. However, there are some really great skydivers/instructors in Deland...you would be in very good hands and would probably learn a whole lot. Not to mention, they have a huge landing area....great for students. -
If you're good at haggling...The diamond district in NYC is the best place to get back everything you paid for it..sometimes you can get more (almost the appraised value)...I know a few people who did that with great success.

Preference... Alti II- Large altimeter...usually used on a pillow and placed on container Alti III- wrist mount altimeter Edit: I use the Alti II for CRW cause I don't want anything attached to my hands. I use an Alti III for freefall cause I like my alti on my wrist. But that's me...just preference

Yes, PEC has been around for quite some time now. The owner and his employees are great people. Re: Black..I've worked in a gear store for a few years and black was always the first to sell out. When ordering, we always ordered more black than any other color...maybe they get a good discount when buying in bulk.....just a guess

I think that's really unfortunate given the amout of inexperienced and student skydivers on this website. They rely of getting accurate information so that in an emergency situation situation they will have a plan and execute it. Yes, he will have a better chance of cutting away cleanly...but that is selfish thinking..The bottom jumper is just making the situation extremely worse for the top jumper with more lines, risers, just a great big mess. How about: Zero fatalities is better than one. Research done in Deland has shown that in entanglements, the top guy releases first. Many test jumps were made and Mike Lewis concluded that the top person should release first. This gives both jumpers a better chance of surviving. Also, this practice is used currently in CRW and experience has shown this to be true. I don't understand how you came to this conclusion. Please explain? Yes, communication is key. However, my SO and good friend were in an entanglement screaming past 2000'....Proper emergency procedures were taken, and they both lived. I wouldn't want to imagine what would have happened if the bottom guy said: Hey, C-ya...1 fatality is better than 2!

I own a Sabre and I'll never get rid of it. It's a great canopy and it flies great in accuracy approaches. I quarter the slider, leave the nose alone, and roll the shit out of the tail. Works for me every time
-
The Katana is an airplane, too...yes??
-
I thought the Sabre was an airplane. Edit: actually, aren't they all airplanes?
-
I agree with Tom on this one. In your profile it states that you are a student. Given your current situation, I'm assuming you're on a large canopy with not much forward motion while landing. If you landing is going to be a bad one (flared too high and dropping straight down) a slide could cause serious injury to your spine, therefore..IMO, a PLF is in order. However, when you downsize to a smaller canopy with more forward drive, a sliding landing may be in order (as previously described).
-
Mother nature doesn't care how much experience you have. Sometimes you get away with it, and sometimes you don't. My experiences- when on landing and I feel my canopy start to drop out..I start my flare a lot earlier and a lot harder...That has saved me from biffing in..then I sit my but down and wait till the conditions are a bit better.

If you couldn't clear it, then I think the bottom person cuts away. I think it's very important to have the general emergency procedures of this topic to be well known to students. I think there is sufficient research and testing done on this topic to have one rule of thumb. To those who voted that the bottom jumper should cutaway, please explain your reasoning...Thus the reason for this topic.
-
Yes, this is my belief as well. Wrap= bottom Entanglement-Top However, there is a 'suggested' emergency procedure (see cross thread) that contradicts this "rule of thumb'... My actually queastion was; Why would someone say the opposite?...I thought it was a typo...thus the discussion

Does anyone remember an alti mount called the "Wrist Wrap"?
Genn replied to Zak's topic in Gear and Rigging
You can call the Ranch Pro Shop 845-255-2252...the guy who makes them is a jumper at the Ranch Pier Ltd. is no longer at The Ranch. -
does anyone NOT get nervous when they jump?
Genn replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
poohbeer, I really wish you would try to look at this from another angle. You will never get to do you first 30-40 jumps again, or your AFF again....Where the fear is very real and so is the reward. It's like when children want to grow up too fast and they miss out on their childhood...They will never get that back. Enjoy the fear/rush while it lasts, while it is most intense...where you are highly rewarded after each and every jump.... To this day, I can say that I remember all of my AFF. I can't say that I remember all of my jumps up to now though, unless they were really special. -
Quote Jon Sikorsky's writing on "Advanced Canopy Control," you will see that HE says that the "General Rule for Entanglements is for the TOP person to release first." He goes on to explain why, also.Quote That is where I got most of my information from...Jon is one of my CRW parents ..he took me on my first CRW jumps
