I have not yet read all of the other responses so forgive me if I repeat someone else's advice... Yep, this is a tough topic. Especially for those of us who ARE parents and/or have neurotic/panicky or just simply loving and concerned parents... When my family asks me questions or makes comments to me about my safety in the sport and/or about my daughter I try to understand where they are coming from first. Then I explain that there are risks in crossing a busy street or getting into an automobile. I give them statistical information like we lose less than 1% a year and explain what most of the incident reports consist of. That many people believe or think, what if my parachute doesn't open when in reality, most incidents occur under properly functioning canopies. I explain that shit happens and no one can control or prevent everything and that the inevitable can and will happen. I also tell them that I take all precautionary measures to insure my own safety and the safety of others. Pretty much after I tell them all of that, they feel better. There is always an element of risk in everything we do while being alive on this planet. Life is pretty short when you think about it... Lets all live as long as we possibly can and get the most out of life as we can... Be safe everyone please and be aware. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Confirmation from NoShit: Affirmative for Thursday and Friday but leaving Friday night to head down to SMB if needed. And I have the feeling I'll be needed (which is a good thing BTW...) So... I am curious to hear some stories, lessons learned, experiences, excitement, "Murphy" occurences that have happened to any/all of you during PRO rated demo jumps. What is the coolest demo you have ever been on... what is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you on a demo jump and what lessons have you learned that you feel would be valuable to pass on to those of us who are new to the art of doing demo jumps and acquiring a PRO rating... Thanks Airtwardo, Those are all things I will keep in mind. Perhaps you should consider writing a book on demo jumping. The only book I know of out there that I am ashamed to say I haven't read yet but will start reading this weekend is called Canopy Skills or something... It would be good to have more books of reference (especially current ones). Anything else you wish to add or anyone wants to add about PRO/exhibition jumps, please share. I am kind of parial to all of the above but I really like the shit hot instructors. The shit hot instructors that can skydive shit hot are like whoa. . Multiple ratings are also a turn on. You know when they are AFF Is, TMs, Vidiets, Riggers, examiners and good looking, man ... add the pilot's license and a great personality, nice body. Yep that would be my idea of a hottie ...
