Dang! I guess I'm not all that good at uploading pictures. Maybe I can figure it out with an edit. AggieDave, I think you have to hit the OPEN key. I was able to click on it and it opened up. Then again, maybe it is opening because it is already on my hard drive Hmmm. Let me know if it works. It would be nice to figure it out ... Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Here I am as just a youngin' ... Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

This one time when I was going to UC Santa Cruz, I lived in hippy hippy ville. I found this cool room in this cool house near the beach with all these cool hippy/biology chicks. The only thing about living there was ... you weren't allowed to cook meat or eat meat in the house. There were about 30 organisms living in the house not including all the plants; from fish to cats to a dog, to a bearded dragon to iguanas and snakes. I was like give up eating meat??? Hmmmm. I decided to give it a try and moved into the house. I became a vegetarian and quit eating meat cold turkey for a little over 6 months. (I eventually broke down passing the taqueria cooking up carne asada tacos) If anyone would like to become a vegetarian I would recommend reading a book called the Karmic Diet (I think that is what it is called, I'll have to double check). This book was given to me by a Hare Krishna (sp?) guy who I met shopping at a New Leaf market (this is a health food/organic store for all you Texans). I read that book in about 3 days and afterwards I could not eat meat. The thought, sight, smell and knowledge that I gained from reading that book was enough of an aversion therapy to cause me to not crave meat for a very long time. I learned to cook vegetarian style when I lived with my roommates. All I can say about it is that I lost so much weight without even trying and felt so much more vivacious. The book I read goes into all of the ethical, factual, statistial, environmental, political, fiscal, medical, moral, and scientific information related to humans eating meat. I was astounded to read the facts. So I am going off on a total tangent. I support vegetarianism and enjoyed being vegetarian. One day I will go back to being one at least for a while. When I learned to cook vegetarian I was shocked at how good the food can be. There is stuff that they make that looks like cat food called TVP (texturized vegetable protein) and no shit it looks just like cat food when it is dry, kibble. You can cook this stuff and simmer it in an Indian Masala sauce and let me tell you, when it is done it tastes pretty good over a nice Mahatma rice. I also used to like the fatless meatless sausage patties, meatless tacos, baked tofu in salads, eggplant parmesan and of course a glass of wine a day for the heart Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." YOU KNOW YOU GREW UP IN THE 80's or early 90's IF-
NoShitThereIWas replied to vanillasky11's topic in The Bonfire
In high school you were into movies like Pretty In Pink and The Breakfast Club, In junior high you listened to Cyndi Lauper and the "Material Girl". You wore lots of rhinestones or got heavily into making rhinestone clothing and shoes. In Elementary school you owned anything neon orange, pink, green or yellow in a skirt/outfit form and had jelly sandals and of course matching legwarmers, When you were real little your parents dressed you in corduroy to the hilt (especially the brown corduroy), You or your friends owned an Atari 2600 or Commodore 64 and Space Invaders, Donkey Kong and Ms. PacMan were "it", You recall the time when Star Wars and E.T. hit the box office. In grade school you said things like "Like Oh MY God" and "That is so totally Rad!" The 80s were an interesting time. I still love the music from that era. Oh, and if you were a girl, Strawberry Shortcake was the bomb. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -

Have you ever done a naked Jump?
NoShitThereIWas replied to Bolas's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quote"its not tongue in cheek...its a disgusting reflection on skydiving. Why are so many skydivers bent on showing how indecent they can be. do you not have any interest in projecting a decent image to the public." OK, I do agree to some extent after viewing videos of naked people in freefall, that at times, it does not portray a pretty or "decent" sight. However, that being said, we are all skydivers here. Not only is our sport supposed to be based on brotherly and sisterly love, but what harm is there in a little nudity? We do jump out of airplanes for fun and excitement , we tend to be more of a rowdy bunch (many of us-just a generalization) and most of us like finding new and improved ways to entertain ourselves. I always said the most dangerous skydivers were the bored ones with lots of time on their hands. This sport is not for the weak at heart or the non-adventurous in my humble opinion. The beauty of characters that this sport attracts is unique and special. And many skydivers enjoy that experience and the experience of jumping naked. I don't believe nudity itself is indecent nor do I think naked skydiving is indecent. If people are willing and having fun and not hurting anyone, so what? I personally have never done a naked skydive (intentionally-see my most embarassing moment in skydiving thread) and don't know if I ever will. There is only one instance I could think of off the top of my head and lets just say it would be a planned "special" circumstance with a "special" someone and not just with anyone. Kind of like getting a tattoo ... You don't do it that often but when you do you are pretty choosy and don't do it all the time. I did a lingere jump once with two girlfriends that was televised on Evening Magazine, a local show in Monterey, CA. Someone asked me why I would portray women and skydiving in such a demeaning light? Heck, I didn't see anything demeaning about the video at all. There was nothing distateful about us being in lingere, we all looked pretty darned good and were having fun living outside of the box. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Sorry Scott, never jumped the Crossfire 2, maybe you should demo them both out. Personally I dig my Stiletto but that is coming from a Spectre as what I thought was a perfect first canopy. I wouldn't trade my Stiletto now period. But if you've flown the Stiletto already for a while and are seeking a change, try out the Crossfire and see if you like it. First of all, thanks for the very entertaining AFF progression story. Second, I would not be disgraced by any of those tales. Look at how much fun you have recounting the experience. I was terrified through most of my AFF. There were points of exhilaration and joy but mostly terror. I too remember getting a little "help" to be peeled off the outside of the otter on my Level 1. Why I continued to go back was truly a mystery. Did I really enjoy the tortuous torment of walking to that door every time? I guess so. I squeaked through every level of AFF but looking back my performance was far from all pretty. I did what I needed to do based on a fear/survival reaction. Basically primitive scared shitless form. It really took me about 20 jumps to relax. But it was always GOOD Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Yay! That is a great story. Please keep us posted Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

So your Diablo spun up on you? Nice job on the EPs ... I'm glad to hear everything worked out and went smoothly for you.

Riddler, where have you been? I've been all over. Let me know if you and Jeannie come out to Monterey. I'm in school full time right now so I am not jumping every weekend anymore. Sorry I missed you at Rantoul, it would have been fun to run into you. Blue skies Oh I forgot to add to my Rantoul story: I could probably almost write a book on about 4 days of events but I have to include that I made two of the most fun freefly jumps ever. One was with Chuck Priest in my new DaKine Rags freefly suit. I did my first double dock with him and we did a cool head down exit. It was a way over my head freefly dive, I transitioned to the sit pretty quick. But we kept it together and manged to get two docks. Hey, for me that is pretty good for freeflying. Then I did a really fun sit fly jump with Jeff, a friend of mine from Vermont and the visuals were the best I think I have ever seen. The clouds were big white puffys and the light was incredible. What an amazing backdrop for a skydive!!! Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

I'm sorry but in a morbid kind of way that is funny. My philosophy is that bouncing is BAD so I try to avoid it at all costs. Shit does happen though. Sometimes Murphy just arrives at the wrong time. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Skydiving Awards, Do send in for them?
NoShitThereIWas replied to ZoneRat's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have never sent in for any of mine ... but I think I may just send in for all of them at once. Why? Cause I think it is kind of neat to collect that stuff as it does mean something ... I was probably having a kick ass time earning those awards if nothing else . I need to send in my 12 hour badge at some point too. It is nice to have a reminder also of where you are in the sport and how high you actually climb. I am also trying to make it a habit of saving things from special events like Boogies with pictures and brochures and stickers so I can scrapbook all that stuff. I think it will all be neat to look back on one day. I am trying to collect meaningful patches to put on a jacket or duffel bag or something. I have never made anything personal like that for myself before and I think it would be fun. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
How Long Did It Take For Your "A"?
NoShitThereIWas replied to Fireflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I hate to admit it but it took me over 300 jumps. Heck I never needed any stinkin license, not that I am trying to stand as the role model or anything. I think everyone should get their licenses and awards all in order the way USPA designed it to be . I also think everyone should read the SIM cover to cover. Heck it did me a lot of good when I finally did it all to get my D license for my rating. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -

Not an intentional one!!! Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Hey JTVal, I'm with ya for Johnny Lang (sp.?). I don't have any of his music (yet) but I have listened to him. My friend Sammy used to listen to him a lot. One day he asked me how old I thought Johnny Lang was from listening to his voice. I was like, hmmmm 40? Sammy was like, he is like 16 years old or something. I was blown away. What a talented guy! So I would have to support your vote for Johnny Lang. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Who could ever narrow it down to just one band? That would take me years to figure out. I can't help but classify Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac along with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as two of my "all time" favorites. But there are too many good bands out there now to even come close for me to narrowing it down to just one. By the way, I have to agree with you about Enigma. That group is really good to listen to. In fact, I think I just might have to pop some in the CD Rom as we speak. Ah yes this is a really good one. I forgot the name of it but the CD is all Blue. Enigma is ALL GOOD. How much does your sport/personal rig weigh ?
NoShitThereIWas replied to mountainman's topic in The Bonfire
I'm in the mean but with all that stainless steel, the thing does weigh a lot. At least its broken into now though ... Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Okay, I just read that and I thought that was really cool. I shouldn't be sitting here reading about what other people find sexy but sometimes I just cannot help myself. So here I am. Reading about what other people find sexy. Quite interesting you know ... what rocks another's boat. Hmmmm. Anyway, just thought your reply was cool. Blue skies. ~Jennifer Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

A cute butt, sweet smile, ballsy attitude, sense of humor, stable, smart, adventurous, somewhat chivalrous and of course a good skydiver Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Great concept ... I'll have to find a hottie pic. In the meantime clap your hands Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

I guess I missed out on all the action Dammit! Naked people everywhere. A friend of mine who works in Vegas said they offered free tandems to naked tandem passengers. It turns out all these people showed up mostly female and the guys were all like, Yeeeaaaahh. They had a naked free for all with naked tandem masters and tandem passengers everywhere! Good for Tom G. You Go Tom G. I think you are the man for going nekkid with a chick. So Tom B. was she cute? I hope he got to take a hottie. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires."
