If crossbracing 3 of the cells gives more performance, how would crossbracing all cells not give even more performance? Are you saying the maximum winloading on a neos is less than a VX of the same size? There is still no information on the Neos on the Icarus canopies website. I will go with currency over time in the sport when we are talking 1000 jumps. Older jumpers have older mentalities when it comes to canopy piloting. Though they will have witnessed more mistakes, we all know the consequence of making a mistakes and some guys never learn, and others are onto it from the word go. Anyone that can do 1000 jumps in less than 2 years has a true passion for the sport and will no doubt be aware of the repercussions of a steep learning curve. The risks would have been pointed out to them by thier peers numerous times (one would hope). I have a friend that has been jumping for about 14 months and now has 1100 jumps, he now has a vx 94. He makes nice, safe, fun and fast landing approaches, we are only allowed to do 90 degree turns here in Lodi. but we still start our turns at or around 500ft. if we have a decent wingload. In my second rig I have my wifes crossfire2 89, and in my primary rig I have my JVX86. I can concur that overloaded non crossbraced canopies do not fly that well, though it lands and flares safely enough, it does not glide half as much as a JVX on a similar WL. My suggestion to the OP is to get the Sabre, don't jump it (much) and sell it at a profit to buy a crossfire. that way you end up with a great canopy that will not snap your heart off at the aorta, and will handle the wingloading you give it. The CSIRO in Australia have been working on carbon capture fore some time with a degree of success. They have managed to do it on a small scale so it is possible. I was listening to them on ABC (australian) radio a few months to a year ago. they liquify the carbon and store it below 800m below sea level (in old mine shafts) where it will remain (on it own accord) in a liquid state until it is phyiscally removed. They have developed brown coal, piston engines with carbon capture for thier heavy duty mining equipment. Australia has a seemingly endless supply of coal so that is why they are focusing on that. Kevin Rudd was mentioning it to the world back then but everybody was too interested in the money stuff to give a shit about it, he was literally talked over. sheesh, a VX is a much higher performance canopy than a neos, if you are getting better swoops out of a neos, does not make a neos better than a VX, it means you are not getting as much as you should out of your VX. Stabalisers do not stabalise your canopy, neither do they give lift, the amount of vortex they reduce is at least equaled by the amount of drag they produce on a high aspect ratio canopy.. Jyro and Co. had inflatable stabalisers on the Daedalus project before they worked out it only created drag that was not necessary, they tried no stabalisers with better results and then you have the JVX. Then you had better work on your technique, the VX is far superior canopy, the JVX is the next level again, then there is the JSX but we'll have to wait for some company to make something compareable to the JVX before that is released, a bit like when the VX was released by jyro in 1999 immediately after the velocity was annonced. I have heard rumor of a 11 cell with ram air stabalisers from the icarus spain crowd, will be interesting, but seems like too many lines/drag to me, and stablisers are not necessary. only time will tell i suppose. I suppose they developed Icarus? I know of two neos' that have been slamming the people that have been jumping them, they pack very neatly, and now jump VX's and have good openings. Why piss around with an intermediate swooping canopy when you can have a VX? Try a jvx and you will never go back! From what I feel, the load is concentrated along the span of the canopy between the A and B lines, one would think they would have been better off crossbracing the front 1/3 of the canopy instead of the centre 3 cells? This canopy was not designed by NZaerosports, that is why it does not have the same opening charachtaristics as other icarus canopies. Just get a fully crossbraced canopy that opens well, or fly your no crossbraced canopy more until you are ready. I never saw the point in the Neos design, but maybe that is just me. The said aid is not always acyually needed, but gratefully recieved. I learned alot about third world corruption while living in tanzania/east africa for a year. those countries have diamonds, among other precious stones, tourism, other natural recources and a multitude of human recource. Kids are keen to learn, adults are keen to work... the park fees alone that are charged in tanzania are huge, to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro you pay a US$600 fee at the gate just to enter the park, 100' of 1000's of tourists pay hundreds of dollars in park fees, yet the country recieves aid frm the USA and other countries... Do they need it? Fuck no, they have more wealth than many other countries could imagine. Why do they get it? It is easeir for the leaders to recieve aid for being a poor country that it is to run a counrty correctly and make some money of your own, all those dollars go to a very small few at the cost of the livlihoods, health and welfare of the citizens. It is in thier culture to 'not' question anyone with more authority than them,(a little like the USA) so nothing is ever done to the rife corruption that is going on in broard daylight. We were operating a DZ for the year we were there and 90% of our customers were volenteers for aid companies. Admitedly some of the volenteers did a great job but a higher percentage made more problems than they solved. What is wrong with that? I don't personally believe having a personal gulfdtream is good, but planting trees to offset the carbons you emit is a great thing. Carbon capping will happen not because it is the best solution, but because humans in general don't give a shit so they have to be forced to do something, before it is too late. He uses a c182 and he can be flat out all day on a weekend with dribs and drabs on a weekday. he doesn't have to be carbon neutral, he just wants to be, also it is good for marketing. The way it is set up it wouldn't matter how busy you are, you pay a certain amout (AUS$2.00 from memory) per customer. I helped a mate out last year at his DZ in australia, he is carbon neutral. A couple of dollars from each customer goes to a fund that plants trees in mined areas etc. It is a minimal cost and it goes to a company that deals with it all so it is easy too. A couple of customers even mentioned that was the reason why they decided to jump there. It need not be all bad, and assuming what will hapen is no way to deal with things. You know as much as i am happy New Zealand is Nuclear free, we have the luxury of using hydro electric dams to generate the lions share of our power. This is not the case for the rest of the world however so I am inclined to agree here, I am interested though about the residue/waste produced by these new fandangle reactors?
