So if someone shows up tomorrow can they do a jump from 28000 or 30000, and if so how much does it cost? Is this a regular thing or a special occasion? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Hi there, I am just wondering if anybody knows what he highest scheduled tandem jump available in the world today is? I know some guys have done some over 30k but they were special occasions. The military may do some on a regular basis. What my question pertains to is; the highesst jump available for paying, unexperienced civilian customers... I know of a couple of 18k tandem operations in USA, Taupo and Queenstown (NZ) do 15k, but what is the worlds highest? You could do that, There are plenty of other activities in the area including 4X helecopter scenic companies and a Ski Plane comapany ( that we are in conjunction with ), horse trekking, Fishing (great fishing) surfing (if you are brave enough to handle masive cold surf), mountain biking... It is a little adventure heven, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Okarito is a Maori name, interestingly enough the Maori are mongoloids as they migrated from Asia about 1000+ years ago. They are the same bloodline as Hawaiian aborigionals and thier language is identical in some cases. Ka aumihi atu te tangata whenua ki nga manuhiri. As mentioned by trig78, we are in New Zealand. On the west coast of the South Island to be precise. It sure is nice. Everyone is welcome, but at this stage we can only allow b license and above to jump here due to our landing areas. We will be advertising shortly for staff once our numbers increase to a point where I am certain the lucky candidate will earn a decent income. I have only been here 2 weeks and we have only been operating under our new certifectate for 5 days. We have been busier than I expected and it is the slowest month of the year right now... There are 3 Pilatus porters sitting there waiting for us to be busy enough to use one or more of them, at this stage we are using a C180 (single loads, plenty of slots going!!) and there is also the choice out of a few C185's for us to use once I get another instructor in. We are the first DZ in the country to use commercially serviced aircraft also. We are also working towards carbon neutral by planting out native trees and re-establishing cleared land into native bush.

Today I did a first descent into a magic place called Okarito. The purpose of the jump was to show locals and the department of conservation that the noise pollution would be low and accuracy is not a problem. In the near future we will be operating there frequently. The secinic shots were taken on the way to altitude, choice aye! We operate out of Franz Josef anyway so the mountain shots although beautiful are the norm for us, the beach jump is something quite special tacked on top. Beaches, rainforest, lakes, glaciers and mountains. WOW! Franz Josef Glacier is one of only 3 in the world that descends into Rainforest. One other is in our regon (fox glacier) and the third is in Argentina. Okarito gets 50-60% less rainfall than Franz Josef so there was operational resons in there also. It was absolutely fantastic. The passenger is Henry our new packer, it was his first ever skydive and he lives in Okarito.

Skydiving as a whole is less expensive in the USA. Annual membership in Aussie is about $200+ratings from memory and I laughed at some Americans in Florida complaing that the USPA fee had gone up like$20 to $50 or something I cant remember for sure. What is the annual running cost of membership in the USPA these days, and ratings etc? I only had to pay nz$17.50 for the remaining 6 months of 2010 with the NZSA here, I was chuffed (it is not even july yet), and they didn't charge me to convert my ratings either. I'm so glad to have good people that are not greedy to deal with... "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Glad we got out of there!! NZSA is really good to deal with, inexpensive and professional. We sent our operations manual in with all the applicble paperwork and had an operators certifecate withing 4 days!! In the Meantime ParaNZ seems to have fallen on its ass, but I'm not updated on that... do you know what the story is now? Where to jump in the USA at this time of year ?
rhys replied to RandomLemming's topic in Events & Places to Jump
one place; Lodi, good weather, big planes, cheap tickets, packers. need i say more? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
I have spent over $3500 on my rating over the years, about $2k in aussie, about $800 in NZ converting my aussie one (I only had 50 tandems) and abot $500 in the USA converting and doing coach ratings etc. That all includes jump tickets, medicals, coach ratings, DZSO ratings, first aid certifecate/revals. If I included rating annual fees it would jump up more, but I have earned so much it does not even bother me in the slightest how much I have paid as it is minimal to the fun and money I have gained out of doing so. I now have NZSA, ParaNZ, NZPIA, APF, USPA and Tanzania CAA tandem ratings. well worth every cent! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

My Loans affect my jumping in a positive way. I did the commercial skydiving Diploma in 2002 and I student loaned half of it, the other half was subsidised (socialist) by the government. Without these loans I would not have afforded to jump at all, now I own 2 companies in two countries pertaning to skydiving. One must be certain that one is entering the correct career. I have never had any doubt so I have excelled due to my passionate attitude to my career. My loans should be paid off within a year. I also did an avalanche safety management diploma and as passionate as I was about that, it was a long hard road to nowhere as a career, I will do that as volunteer this winter and the snow has started falling.... Who manufactures your camera for filming tandems?
rhys replied to juniorflys's topic in Photography and Video
Used to be a no brainer, not anymore. snce they got rid of the recording light and the lanc, you cannow spend more money on swtches than on the camera itself. personally i use go pro for handicam and I very much like to look of the contour hd for outside camera. I will get ne of those why pay as much for a lens and switch for your camera as a camera that already has these things and much better quality? thats a no brainer! static line shits all over aff bro, enjoy it while it lasts, each level gives you a little more. If anyone ever tells you static line is 'just' old school (they will), just tell them you don't need trainer wheels. Hard school old core! You have plenty of time to drag a 3 ways out the door, but static line is hard core and not for weaklings! You are on your own, Enjoy and welcome to the club. Be safe, have fun. My favorite animal is a bird but in particular is is a mountain parrot name 'Kea' that is native to my homeland, the South Island of New Zealand. Pictures They are a very special animal as they are fun friendly and cheeky, they are very intellegent indeed and live in what I consider to be the most beautiful place on Earth (no place like home). There have been numerous studies on these birds and they rank very high in the intellegence list in some case studies they rank #1; if you have time watch this video or if you don't, Watch this 1.5 minute one There must be something it in the water here eh . Building What? How SCADs Can Be Hidden in Plain Sight
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
you sure do have a high opinion of yourself don't you. You think I will succumb to your bigotry peer pressure and peronal attcks but i won't. This may work in your country but I have personal integrety and it is moving me forward at a rapid rate. I will react positively to irrefutable subject matter and your integrety may be reinstalled by you doing so... Until then you are just a bigot and quite unscientific indeed. sad mate, quite sad. Building What? How SCADs Can Be Hidden in Plain Sight
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
too true, watch the list grow here, the wise ones say nothing as they are not subjected to these bigoted personal attacks. Stupid peole claim to know stuff but cannot explain it, you fail to explain what is bullshit and you false assertion that I start a thread every other week on the subject is bt definition bullshit. I claim you are nothing more than a lyer and you use false data to conclude you opinion. Quite weak for someone that considers themself scientific, how about you show us your skills and prove me wrong. but i suppose you don't have time for that. Building What? How SCADs Can Be Hidden in Plain Sight
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
Interestingly you all decide to attack me rather than discuss the points in the sbject matter. Because the subject matter was written very well using fact and science. You cannot refute what is said as it is the truth, and it was written by a well repected retired theologist and professor, he hs been nominted for a nobel peace prize and is in the top 50 of the op 100 most influential people of the last cantury as decided by time magazine. Since 9/11 he has been ignored because the deniers decide that ignorance is bliss. funnily enough he explains that also, but i bet you decided not to read what he wrote, but just comment negatively anyway? How about you refute what he says rather than simply attacking me, and him. What have you lot achieved that allows you to belittle such a great man? huh, the highest amout of bigoted posts on the speakers corner maybe? or ?? a big high horse or? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
It has for the time being, the operation I just bought into a week ago was under ParaNZ but fortunately I/we anticipated this scenario before it actually happened and jumped ship to the NZSA (quite prompt and professional). It took only 4 days with the appropriate paperwork. ParaNZ may or may not regain its part 149 but I wasn't hanging around to see. Haha or she could start beleiving what she is told to the word and not question any anomalies and ignore common knowledge and resign herself to bigotry and succumb to peer pressure in order to sustain popularity. Kinda like christians these deniers really eh? Haha. Ignorance may be bliss but it is not the truth! It is there for you to see, you just have to be prepared to be wrong. Before you claim conspiracy nutjob tell us where you have beein voted in the top 50 of the 100 most influential people of the century by time magazine.
