  1. My risers are very long, maybe 32", but then again I am 6'9 with a 38" sleeve length. I took the risers that came with my rig (they had 500 jumps+ on them at the time), and picked the stiching off (the stiching that holds the folded over section that creates the line attachement point) . I then cut a piece of type 17 webbing that extended the riser to the desired length and overlapped the original by 4". Using a Brother home machine I ran 3 rows of a tight zig-zag stich over the overlapped part. Works great, costs little, but takes a little time. The first pair I did this with I made them too long and had to re-do them. I have 2 pair like this and each set of risers has well over 1000 jumps on them. If I had to do it again I wouldn't pick the stitches, I would cut them off and just attach a new piece of webbing, and not overlap on both sides. YMMV, but its worked well for me. Cya.
  2. Hey Shane, So how much was that Red Bull pledge? I tried to look at this in a positive light, but it just reeks of "look at me", and DOOD, I scored a World Record for my resume. I notice very little effort has gone into generating pledges for this "charity" event. Nothing on the boards outside of the base zone, yet it sounds like a tremendous effort has gone into contacting Guiness, lining up the media, and generally attracting attention. I'm not surprised, but I am pretty well disgusted. BTW, if this is such an important cause, why isn't Miles on line asking for support all over the place?
  3. *** Death Camp 2005 will be taking place during Miles' record thingy in front of all the media he has there mid day, from the top rail, with water skis on. Probably drunk. There we go Shane, a comment you can really be proud of. Nothing like a little rebellion in the morning. You bad, bad boy. You are so cool.
  4. Actually, I do think that a responsible company will do things that help improve the sports they use for their marketing. When I say community, I don't mean whats in it for me, I mean what are they doing to help the sport iteself. Red Bull uses base for its marketing, albeit a very small part of their marketing. They get to do this for a pittance compared to what it costs to work with other sports, because a few base jumpers will sell out for a few cool free jump trips and a case of their canned piss. OK, maybe a small allowance. These jumpers will do anything for a glint of fame, and I say glint becasue as much as they would like to think differently, nobody knows or gives a fuck about base outside of base. Ask a kid about skateboarding and Tony Hawk, and then about BASE and ANY jumper by name. Get it? Sponsoring Bridge Day is not what I was talking about as that is another marketing opportunity. This is an event to raise money for a cahrity, and possibly bring some positive PR to BASE. A pledge by Red Bull would alltruistic (Shane, That means they would do it just to be a good corporate citizen) So how much is Red Bull pledging? A dollar a jump? $10, $100.00? On the subject of "Professional Base jumper". I understand that everyone wants to make a living off of what they like to do. Thats great. Just try not to do it in such a way that you fuck over all of the other folks who also do it just for the fun of it.
  5. Hi Shane. How much is Red Bull pledging per jump? In my estimation Red Bull has never done anything FOR the BASE community, and has only used base for marketing itself. This is an opportunity for Red Bull to actually contribute something positive to the sport. I'm trying to look past the obvious self promotion that is attached to this charity event. Or is it the charity event attached a self promotion? You be the judge. Either way I do see it as some positive press for base. Hopefully Miles will be too winded to give too much woo hoo. No one will believe that the line over was intentional. If you want to really have fun disconnect a riser, or stow the toggles (jongles for you) on the opposite risers.
  6. Hey Nic, I used to regularlay do 15 a day shooting video, and many guys I know do 18 to 20, videos and/or tandems. And those are working jumps. You got to harden up! The jumps are the easy part, its the hiking out that is tough. With a winch and 10 rigs you could do a couple hundred in 24 hours.
  7. Even I would have to say that this is postive PR for BASE in TF. Given Jimmy H's antics, Miles is practically looking like the patron saint of BASE. Since Miles will be too busy jumping, let Tom handle the PR and media relations and BASE can really come off looking pretty good.
  8. *** Here is what's up ,Walt. Regardless of what is true the reality is that a large portion of the Black community are up in arms and fed up with their "lot in life". They hold many percieved injustices against the establishment(white folks). This is a cauldron that will boil over and it does in individual cases every day. So how can we lower the heat? Bush thinks that by bringing democracy to foreign lands he can stem the tide of terrorism. Is there a similar plan to minimize the cultural divide here at home? I find it strange to agree with one of your posts Cliff. Even stranger is that you made sense and wrote something clearly understandable. OTOH, A violent overthrow of the US by black America is a joke. The US military can stop it with ease, and even if they couldn't most of the 300 million guns owned in this country are owned by non-blacks, so it would not be much of a fight. I to have been waiting for the race riots to break out in all of the inner cities of America. Maybe if the economy slips it will begin, but as long as the workeing class can keep supporting the welfare class, the welfare class will stay put. Not doing anything for one's self is the hallmark of the welfare class, so a planned overthrow just isn;t in the cards. If they could plan that out they wouldn't be 5th generation welfare leeches. But still, you made some very good points. Maybe there is hope afterall.
  9. Of course Mayor Nagin is black so he ultimatlly fucked up I don't think his color has anything to do with the fact that he is corrupt and utterly incompetent. He sure doesn't seem to mind to sell out the folks of NO for a few bucks though. *** "So a storm named after a Russian gal" And this has what to do with anything? What if the storm was named Keisha? Stop the voices. Stop the voices. Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices.Stop the voices. Deeded Owner of Melenick II.
  10. The problem is not the Jesse is such a moronic racist, its that you actually think he is a leader. He is as corrupt as they come and will sell "your" people down the river for a buck everyday of the week. He would sell you off for a cheap watch.
  11. Wha wha wha. With Russell you have one of the coolest guys doing the most he can do under difficult circumstances. Everyone supports him becasue he has character and demonstrates grace under pressure. With that waterski/surfboard/rail guy(s) you have an attention seeking juvenile doing everything wrong just to prove he can do it. It may have worked well with his parents and skateboarding, but in adult life it is just plain lame. You go Russell. Shane's just mad that you actually did something original in base, a task that has thus far eluded him and his crew. What are you going to call it? Much respect, Tree
  12. Nice work Russel. Next you need to add a V8 to the chair, build a ramp and jump over the rail! Sweet
  13. I think that this article hit the nail on the head. If you are a ward of the state you get what they give, good or bad. If you don't want to live under that system there is unlimted opportunity to make your own way.
  14. Saying that I hate poor people is a big leap from thinking that they don't do much to help themselves. Of course I think that disaster relief is something that the gov;t should provide, and yes, I donated to the Red Cross. So clearly I can comprehend that obligation. However, you seem incapable of seeing each individual as having personal responsibilty for themselves. You are always willing to say it was someone elses's fault, and that people don't need to or are incapable of thinking for themselves. Your line of thinking is far more responsible for the sad existence of the welfare class than mine. WHen you expect nothing of people as you do they will do exactly that, nothing. When you sit back and let others do for you you get what they give you. I'm not so sure that given the scope and extend of this disaster that it is being handled as poorly as many are saying. During the tusnami relief response the victums weren't shooting at the rescuers. Its is easy to be a Monday morning QB, and is anyone else surprised how LONG it took before Jesse, Al, and Congressman E. Cummings took to turn it into a race issue?
  15. Correct. The lines are fine with only 300 or so on the set. I check all of the bartacks and more than half were coming loose, so I just reinforced them. Oddly enough the A line attachements were mostly good, probably because they are pulled more closely to 90 degrees. The outboard lines were the least affected. I think that this problem would be limited primarily to heavy jumpers (250+ out the door) at very high wing loadings. Something for the husky swooper to look at. Cya.
  16. You have a very broad view of the word "welfare", as seems typical of most on the left. I think that we can both agree that libertarians are in the middle and that they believe that less gov't interference with citiznes lives is better. That can be extended to a reduction in the nanny state that the USA has become.
  17. Some nice Friday afternoon swooping started out well. but on my third jump I opened into a nice spin. Corrected hard with opposite rear riser and checked the brakes, both were still set, A quick check revealed no broken lines, but there in the left brake cascade was the culrpit, the little piece of tape used to attach the inner most brake line (along with the line) was wrapped around the other lines and locked under the cascade. Cya. A close inspection revealed that there was no tear and that over time the bar tack had simply been wiggled loose one stich at a time. The other inboard was the same and halfway unraveled. I guess the angle they are pulled at made this possible as bartacks on other high load lines were fine. A little sewing in the morning and the swoop will be on again, but be sure to check these attachments on higher jump number canopies. This was a VX 120 with 1100 to 1300 jumps on it and otherwise in excellent condition. Cya.
  18. Just to be clear, I was not agreeing with Cliff, I was chastising him for his racist remark. I would have called him a racist, but I've been banned before for calling them like I see them with regards to Cliff.
  19. *** "Did you ever read the part of the Constitution that refers to the obligation of the government in providing for the common welfare?" I am familiar with that part. I am not familiar with any part that says an entire segment of society is entitled to sit on their asses and live on the dole generation after generation. Yes, the Gov't has it share of blame over preparedness, but even the poorest person living in an area that has long been predicted to be flooded should be smart enough to put something aside for the proverbally rainy day. A lot of them seem to be able to eat enough to become obese, and I bet a fair number smoke and drink. If they have money for that they could have planned, but why should they when they expect the gov't to tend to their needs. They are not personally responsible and barely qualify as adults in that sense. See my thread on mandatory birth control for a solution.
  20. No, not the Americans. Cliff is saying the Jews don't like the Blacks, and THATS why they are not helping them. Nice work Cliff. Lets face it though, the reason there is such a problem in the aftermath is that the welfare class never plan ahead or think for themselves. That is why they are welfare class. They sit around and let the government support them. Hurricane coming? Oh well, the gov't will take care of it. I don't need to do anything for myself. NOLA wiped out? The gov't will come take care of me. Maybe, but the gov't is not going to take care of you as well as you might like.
  21. Jesse is a racist piece of shit for sure. Is anyone really surprised at his comments. Just how long until he starts blaming the whole thing racism. I mean if they were white people they would have been rescued already. I'll bet Rainbow Push (Jesse's money machine) hasn't donated a dollar to the rescue. They spend all of their money paying for Jesse's illegitiment children from him bawling his interns.
  22. I can think that only a non-jumper would come up with a post like this. Just how many main-reserve entanglements do you think happen each year? Not many, and I'll define that as under 5 per year. Nearly all of them can be traced to errors in the use of proven equipment designs. How many impossible to cut away mains do you think happen? Again, not very many and there are new equipment options such as riser inserts that can all but eliminate a hard cutaway. Used according to design and as planned today's reserve systems work perfectly well. As mentioned above you have a solution that needs a problem that does not exist. If you have any experience jumping (it doesn't sound like it) you should let everyone know what that is if you want anyone to take you seriously. You idea is impractical to implement, (too costly) unrealistic for sport jumping (why not just have the rockets inserted up everyone's asses, when they pucker up it fires), and would only lead to increased fatalities. (plane burnes up on jump run when rocket deploys out of jumper's ass)
  23. The whole town is being evacuated, there won't be power there for months, and the homes of these looters areprobably destroyed. What to do... Oh I guess I'll grab a nice 50" flatscreen TV. So typical. Give lowlife people a chance and a reason and they steal anything not nailed down.
  24. Anyone familiar with a 269? Pros and cons? Thanks
