USPA Comments on Future Air Traffic Control
3331 replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
USPA has submitted comments to the FAA concerning the agency’s proposal to move to a new system of air traffic control called NextGen. A component of that system is known as ADS-B, for Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast. The ADS-B system combines the GPS system, aircraft avionics and ground stations to enable more accurate transmission of position and trajectory information between aircraft and ATC, and between aircraft. The FAA is proposing that by 2020 all aircraft be equipped for ADS-B when operating in Class A, B or C airspace, and Class E airspace areas at or above 10,000 feet mean sea level (MSL). Because most skydiving jump planes fly above 10,000 feet MSL, USPA took the opportunity to advise FAA’s planners of the impact on jump operations. Though there may be safety benefits (still to be determined), there could also be huge costs. For instance, the FAA noted that the costs for a piston aircraft could range from $6,578 to $22,283; the costs for a turbine aircraft could range from $12,906 to $486,000. Stay tuned to the USPA website and Parachutist for updates. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving. -

I saw Terry O'Malley and his son in 2005 at the HERD summer get together at a farm in Pennsylvania, he hadn't jumped for a while. I jumped with Bill Kowalski in 2002 and 2003 in West Point Virginia and Gardiner New York. I miss the Jumpstreet gang, they were good at what they did, always friendly and coached anyone that wanted to learn canopy RW---for free. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

Brian Pangburn accepted the award for the World Record 100 way Canopy Formation. He was given 30 seconds to speak and eloquently gave the pilots full credit for their flying skill. The room was impressed. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

Picture ClubNat70-4.jpg The picture was taken in 1970 at the Club Nationals. Lying on the ground is 17 year old Terry Arnold (my first Skydiving girlfriend). Standing over her is Rudy Sampels the leader of the Columbus Skydivers. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

The Club Nationals took place near Cleveland Ohio every year. I was at the Club Nationals in 1970, at that time I jumped with the Columbus Skydivers from Darbydale Ohio (where I started in 1969). In 1971 I was there with Greene County from Xenia Ohio. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

Look in your February Parachutist on page 4 under Staff Directors you'll' see brand new names. Transitional times can be difficult. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

I've been going over the picture and can only guess. If that's the 1972 team, I wasn't on it. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

The description of a Skygod was first published in the RW Underground by Pat and Jan Works in 1974. It's not meant as a complement. It's the arrogant punk with a few hundred jumps and the Prima Donna with thousands of jumps and a long list of records who won't give you the time of day. I've seen them come and go, in fact I'm tolerating a few right now. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

I've used my Swift 7 cell reserve three times, stood up the landings. My Rigger in Virginia also told me it was old technology. Look for a new reserve here I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

I wrote to Skydivingweather.com twice about their using the Richmond Virginia Airport weather report for West Point Virginia 36 miles east of Richmond. The Airport at West Point has it's own weather station that's used by weather.com and weatherUnderground.com, Skydivingweather.com was consistently wrong. No changes were made and I never got a response. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

In the history of USPA one member of the BOD has been dismissed after impeachment proceedings, he was Lyle Cameron in 1972, the hard feelings were deep and had been festering a long time. Since then any talk of impeaching a BOD member has been nothing more then popcorn farts. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

Next time look at http://JumpShack.com/ first. Average wait time is six weeks to anywhere on Planet Earth. With the difference in the US dollar and euro you could come to Deland for Holiday and new gear for less money then you've already paid. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.
