  1. BUMP... And another thing I found out. This post bumps up to the top. BUMP. Thomas " THOMAS' DROWNPROOF SCUBA COURSE"
  2. Sweet. A gay man ripping on one-parent children. And single parents. So without the "legally binding contract", there is no fidelity or stability? I thought before you said that you already had that for FIVE years. Or were you just being sarcastic again. Thomas
  3. ahhhh, the smell of perfume reminds me of pussy. Thomas
  4. I just did some info finding, and I found something quite interesting. I looked at the fatalities list for CAVE divers, and mostly all of them had prior swimming experience. In fact, most of them swam a lot before they got into CAVE diving. So, I'm not suggesting that it is causative, but I do think that swimming experience makes more dangerous CAVE divers. I'm not sure if it is just the bad habits picked up by swimming, or if it is just coincidence. It certainly indicates some kind of relation between swimming experience and CAVE diving fatalities. 5. Banned from what? That's what I am wondering too. I guess I would have to go with, yes and yes. That is assuming the question is an obvious one. Thomas
  6. Another thing that is a major hinderance to SCUBA diving, is being trained to use your arms to help swim. Swimmers (most of the time) use their arms in a way that aids them with motion. SCUBA diving uses arms in a much different manner, and in the caves, it is often not roomy enough for flailing arm movements. Think about it though. Swimming doesn't teach anything about many of the major issues that arise CAVE diving. navigating caves, rise and descent rates to avoid the bends, and how to monitor oxygen levels. And BUOYANCY. Buoyancy is such an issue on most cave dives, and it rarely ever is even thought about swimming. And the equipment. I could go on and on about how different the equipment is. Sure, I will concede that you wear a swimsuit for both, but often in caving, a much more advanced suit is used such as a wetsuit. The caving gear is so specialized, that you won't learn much, if anything, about it when swimming. And the danger factor. Woohoo, let me tell you. Swimming is so safe that everyday whuffos can go do it just for an afternoon. CAVE diving is far, far more dangerous. If anything, swimming gives people the feeling of comfort and complacency, and this greatly endangers them when they try to dangerous sport of CAVE diving. Let me dig around and try to find some statistics. That should make an interesting point. Thomas "THOMAS' DROWNPROOF SCUBA SCHOOL"
  7. Well, this is the USA, and the general support idea is what the majority favors. I could try and draw parallels to making marijuana illegal, but allowing and taxing alcohol and cigarettes, but I won't. I'll just say that even though this amendment shocks you, it may seem very fitting to some people. Think of all the "Old Fashioned" people who do not understand the "GAY" concept, and who still live their lives thinking that gay people are only out in California. That fact may shock you also. Not everyone is enlightened and enriched to so much diverse culture, and other people are just not tolerant of other culture. We'll see where the majority sides with this one. If the amendment passes, would you be willing to concede that the majority of americans favor this concept? Thomas
  8. so, I was thinking that good explorers and outdoorsman should be able to be trained to cave dive, without prior swimming experience. After all, swimming is so different than cave diving. Swimming trains one to breath above water, and hold your breath below water. SCUBA is totally different. And, the caving aspect is so different than splashing around at the beach, that swimming holds not much relevance to SCUBA. SURE, both are done in the water. But the height difference and perspective is SO different that they really are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. All the BAD habits of swimming that have to be "un-trained" are so much easier dealt with with NO PRIOR SWIMMING EXPERIENCE. I feel sorry for the conformists that have to agree with everything the "knowledgeable" people tell them just to fit in. blah blah blah blah blah Thomas "THOMAS' DROWNPROOF SCUBA COURSE!!"
  9. CAREFUL THERE. Implicit differentiation can catch you like that. Maybe it is not needed there, but I have a feeling it is. what about this: 2yy' -8x = 12 and then something about substitution of tangent line formulas Of course, taking the derivative of both sides of the equation will turn 12 into 0, cause the d/dx of a constant is 0. I think implicit might be used in that problem, but I am unsure. Maybe others can chime in. Thomas
  10. looks pretty sweet to me. I am unsure of the tangent line part, but it looks like you did the differentiation part correctly. what about the second problem. that is basically the same thing right, finding the derivative, and then substituting it into y = mx + b or something. lemme look at it again (cheap post-whore attempt) Thomas
  11. I'll take a shot at this. It's been awhile since implicit differentiation, but it is something like treating y like a function of x or something. where d/dx xy would be found using the product rule, which is (1st * d/dx 2nd) + (2nd * d/dx 1st). Where the first function is x, hence making the derivative 1, and the second function is y, making the derivative dy/dx. Applying the product rule, we should get (x * dy/dx) + (1 * y) The second part, (-3x) is just -3 for the derivative, and the constant 2 has derivative of 0. so, supposedly (take with a grain of salt), the first equation ( xy-3x+2) should have d/dx of x*dy/dx + y - 3. And that is the slope of the line you are looking for. something about plugging in x = -1, and finding the rest of the function gets hazy. I hope that was along the lines of the way you were working out your implicit differentiation problem. Good luck, and maybe someone else can step in and clarify. Thomas
  12. another one I remembered : When you're hot, you're hot. When you're not, you're not. And when you're on the pot, Give it all you got. Thomas
  13. Yeah, I could name about a dozen names (one in particuliar) who has posted one of those and still is around. Yeah. Be bigger and better than them. Stay away. Thomas (I can't, so I'm still "all talk-no action")
  14. Dreaded? Banned button is dreaded? geez, he usually only bans you for awhile. Of course he has the right to be a although I have a right to laugh and think he's . I just don't have a right to laugh here and that's fair. Just remember, our emails aren't intercepted -- PROBABLY. At least not the ones that go through dropzone.com! Hahahahahaha! (This post was edited by CrazyThomas on Feb 16, 2004, 4:13 PM) banning was all it took to get rid of you? better think about moving out of the PNW then, and maybe up to canada. that seems to be a route of escape. Thomas
  15. here is one I got reminded of by a coworker. and I can't believe I forgot this one. "The FUZZ" Thomas
  16. Are you serious? Please click on the attachment in my prior post to see a pic of "fire dancing". serious about standing in fire? sure, why not. it's not like it burns you immediately. campfires are made to be jumped over. I have tried juggling flaming balls (baseballs + gas), and that is kind of fun. It looks pretty sweet too, if I may say (biased opinion). Dancing around with fire sticks? yeah, that looks cool too. especially on some -------- ---- ----------- Thomas
  17. fire is hot, and if you stand in it TOO long, you will burn your clothes or body. I can drink beer in a fire, but not chug a whole one. with sticks or batons......interesting visuals. what is really cool.....stuntpeople that do whole body burns. THey ACTUALLY dance on fire. but whatever floats your boat. Thomas

    Ready for BASE?

[attempt at humor] You must have some great fashion tips for your students that you start out with 0 skydives then. Is face paint still good in 2004, or is that "old school"? Or was that just never cool? Is it more important for your container to match your clothes, or your canopy to match your clothes? I know, ideally they would both match, but if that is not possible, then which is better to match? [/attempt at humor] Thomas
  19. a while back, there was a thread about derogatory terms for skydivers. so, what are some derogatory terms for police? I can't think of too many. I mean, there is the standard "PIG", "Pork Product", "5-0", or "Bacon", but I am wondering if anyone else had heard other terms. I'm sure the officers on here have, so what have you been called? Or what else have people heard police referred to as? Thomas
  20. as long as we are on reposts.... Texan's contribution another one (kinda long) Lawyer's contribution Thomas
  21. oh, OK. Light bulb jokes, huh? What is the difference between a pregnant woman and a light bulb? You can unscrew a light bulb. Thomas
  22. how about simply a lame joke about a light bulb? from cheech and chong's next movie-- "How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb? Only one. But the light bulb has to want to change." Now I just need 50 people to flame me for that. Thomas
  23. [george carlin] I have the say that the only thing I park IN is a garage.... and how do you drive IN a road... Im mean... isnt that where all the rocks and tar come together to form asphanlt? Would you rather drive ON a road? [/george carlin] you had to go and open up that one, huh? [george carlin] why is it that everyone says they are taking a shit. I mean, after all, you aren't really taking it anywhere. why don't people start saying leaving a shit? [/george carlin] Thomas
  24. WHAT? You've never watered rocks? You're missing out totally. Watering rocks is almost as much fun as skydiving. I wrote to the X-games people and asked them when "Extreme Rock Watering" was going to be a featured sport. I've been training for awhile, and I hope to place high when the sport finally catches on. Thomas
  25. Well, let's see here. Yep, with Saddam in a cell, I can't imagine he'll be making too many more WMD's, or buying them, or hiding them, or threatening us with them. Sure, his followers may, but Saddam himself NO LONGER poses a threat to us of any kind, especially WMD threat. I see it as we did remove Hussein's threat of WMD, because there isn't much he can do from his cell. So, I would say 1 for 2, not 0 for 2. But, I guess it is all how you view it. Thomas
