600 jumps in 24 hours by one man.
ZigZagMarquis replied to skydiverek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The FAA has no requirement to exit or open by a given altitude. The 2000 foot pack opening is a USPA BSR only. Yes, but isn't it FAI that certifies the record? No, FAI does not have a "most in 24 hr." category. It is in the Guinness Book Of World Records. So....what was Judy doing there at all hours of the night...until 8 the next morning? ltdiver Sucking down lots of free MooseHead too... I'd suppose... Anyway... this last time around, like Mikey said, No Cutaways... I think he had one the time before last when he did it in Yuma. -

Well, tell it to get serious, straighten up and fly right otherwise you'll make it spend some time sitting in the corner in the rigging loft rather then out playing with its friends!

"Cold" & "Free" is the best beer out there!!!!

The way it goes, you have to go to at least 2K for it to be legal. When Jay did it last, at Elsinore, he was using Turbine Porters, even a good Cessna is just too slow. If the weather hadn't been crappy... a numerous number of the jumps at Elsinore were in the rain... and if he hadn't lost something like 45 minutes to an hour or so to a broke airplane, he might have gotten 600 jumps in then. Jay is a remarkable person. -
... fly RW!
-
... go for the RW suit, most definitly, Tony Suits are good and so are Bev Suits and Michigan Suits... old school used to be get your first RW suit without booties, but these days, most get booties from the get-go... Good luck... and think RW suit!

Its the only way I can get the voices to SHUT UP!

... and they're going to be talking to you on radio and help you with canopy control or otherwise help you land your canopy how???
-
Another one is the hand deploy pilot chute. Okay, we've got the "Curved Main Pin", the "3 Ring" main release and the "Hand deployed Pilot Chute"... what's the 4th one?? Twist off beer caps???

Well... all, Adj has gotten advise from lots of folks here with more experience jumping and with more experience jumping AND doing demos... but he's going to go do what he wants to do... I honestly hope it goes well and safe for him...
-
Fair enough. How about you just jump in? Understand the desire to "show off", but ask yourself, why? Ultimately, the decission is yours. I hope nothing bad happens and please please keep telling yourself to be conservative under canopy. Not only for your own benifit, but your brides, your friends and family, and the sport of skydiving... you did say you were going to be doing this in front of the press, yes??
-
Adj, First and formost, congrats on getting married and all... ummm... is this your first wedding and first demo too??? You know that that means... ... but in all seriousness. I don't want to take the wind out of your sails, but someone up-post said that doing something for the first time on a demo may not be the best thing to do. Even with all the support your getting. Also, what is the nature of the landing area you're jumping into? I realize your profile may not yet be up to date, but with only 175 jumps, a demo may not be the best thing for you either. Not to scare you by going all "black death-y" or anything... but I've known two folks that busted themselves up badly on demos. One was a guy (Wade) jumping into his own wedding reception... he hooked it in and broke his back on landing... long term he was okay, can still walk and all, but it wasn't the best start to a Honey Moon ever... (granted those of you out there who know Wade know that his canopy piloting and wing-loading choices weren't always beyond question, but still). The other was a low time jumper on a demo, made a mistake and wound up busting up both his legs so badly he almost bleed to death and almost had one or both amputated... last I saw him, he wasn't walking, but reportedly he is now... he had to give up skydiving and could no longer work as a fireman. Anyway, best of wishes to you and your soon to be bride and be safe.

BEER!!! Anyway, are we talking a Cold Smoke or an M18 Smoke Grenade here? Personally, I'd not be enclined to jump smoke... a) unless I'm being paid for it; it has great potential to trash your gear... and... b) I'd use a good smoke brackett and not something cobbled together... and... c) I don't think I'd go keeping it inside my jumpsuit... I've seen M18s go off in the airplane, I've seen how hot they get, I've seen them spew an unusal amount of slag... I'd want to be able to get rid of it quickly if I had to.

That means HE owes beer... right!??!

... hate to hi-jack this thread, but what the heck... Mikey... do you know of anyone who's successfully banged out of an SR71 at high altitude and lived to tell about it? ... remember all, ejection seats are not guaranteed to save your life, they are just there to remove you from the airplane.

Who's holding book here? I'd like to buy some shares on Zippo.
-
Zippy... it wouldn't be as negative as smacking the ground without a parachute out.
-
Zippo, You've heard a lot of good things here. Some of it harsh, but not inaccurate. One fact of the matter is, if you jump in the U.S., at a USPA Drop Zone, you are REQUIRED by the BSRs to have an AAD and RSL on the Student Rig you'll be jumping... regardless of whether you're doing the Static Line, IAD or AFF progression. Talk to your instructors about your questions, but realize there will be an AAD on your student rig. Also remember, you don't have to skydive and any DZ you show up on, doesn't have to let you skydive. ZippO, I haven't heard your concerns first hand, so I take them with a grain of salt, but what scares me is if you do get into the sport is you may wind up being one of those people who talk others out of (or try to) having an AAD for irrational and uneducated reasons... I've seen it happen. I have friends that are dead because they DIDN'T have an AAD. I think you need to learn more about how AADs really work... just my 2 cents.

Will you get a chance to jump the Safire again? If you do, after opeing, when you unstow the breaks, check see to how much slack there is. In full flight, the break lines should have enough slack in the to be slightly bowed and not distort the tail like they do when you pull down on them to turn of flare. Then take one wrap on the toggles / steering lines. If this still doesn't distort the tail try flying the canopy and landing it like that, you may not have to flare down to your toes...

Anyone watching Jet-A prices?
ZigZagMarquis replied to rmsmith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
... yep, I know a DZ that's already charging that. Anyone know what Elsinore and Perris are charging for 12,500??? -
Go to PD's website... store... canopies... http://www.performancedesigns.com/store_files/canopystore.asp ... and take a look at their stock list. Talk to your local dealer... as I don't think you can buy directly from PD, I may be wrong... or Call Ralph... hunt around and see what kind of a deal you can get... the last time I bought Canopies, I did the Call Ralph thing, he qouted me a price for what I wanted, I have him my 1st, 2nd & 3rd choice by Serial Number off of PDs stock list, gave him my Credit Card #, he did the deal with PD and had the Canopies drop shipped right to me, I had them within 3 days. If you've got the money to buy now, the stock list at PD or any similar list any manufacturer has is the way to go... just find some colors you can live with.

Maybe it was for a custom color canopy that they quoted him that? My favorite colors are always "In Stock"
