  1. Wait!!! This just in!!! Rumor started this past weekend at Cal City Skydive that stuntman Joey Preston was going to come out of stuntman-retirement to double for Patrick Swayze in Point Break 2.
  2. A lot of good words from a lot of good folks up post on how to deal with landing in high winds... if one jumps long enough, you'll have to land in high winds and there are some good things to keep in mind that folks up post have said... ... But to pull the thread that Jack said... Something that noobs may want to also know so they can have in their "bag of tricks" was a good piece of advice that an ol' grey hair (Philly) gave me years ago when standing looking the wind meter on a "marginal day" was to add about 7Kts of windspeed to what the winds are currently doing and ask yourself again if you'd like to be under canopy in that? Then decide if you really want to get on the load?
  3. Pardon me, Kallend. With respect to not wanting the U.S. flag touching the ground, its not a "hangup". If you don't understand that and/or don't have a problem with the Union Jack drug on the dirt, I'm okay with either of those, but don't refer the U.S. flag being dropped on the ground as a "hangup". Thanks. Sorry all for the Offtopic-ness... Now back On Topic. I think it's a "hangup" if someone, anyone, thinks it more important to keep a flag off the good earth of the country it represents than to prevent injury to the flag bearer. Kallend, I have pride in my country and its flag. The display, care and handling of the U.S. Flag should be done in an honorable way; Period. You don't have to agree with that and I don't care if you do not and, frankly, I pay little attention to your posts. However... Your argument about "safety" is wrong, IMO, or silly at best or a feeble attempt on your part to hide behind the "safety" card at the least; Ooooh, "You can't disagree with this! Its for Safety!" Nonsense. The solution is simple. If you or anyone else doesn't want to get hurt jumping a flag, banner, smoke, streamers, etc. on a demo, its simple, don't jump them on a demo or don't do the demo in the first place. Myself and many others don't like seeing our country's flag drug on the ground. Either intentionally or otherwise, I feel that you are trying to bait me and others with your posts on this tread. Retort that you're not... I don't care. Again, The display, care and handling of the U.S. Flag should be done in an honorable way; Period.

  5. Good post. If its the one I'm thinking of, I'm famliar with the photo you're speaking of. Personally, I take exception to this demo team flying the U.S. flag with their logo'ed canopies and also towing the U.S. flag with a logo'ed banner; "self promoting" thier company in conjunction with the dispaly of the U.S. flag. Furthermore, Public Law 94-344, known as the Federal Flag Code states, in part, "...The U.S. flag, when carried in a procession with another or other flags, should be either on the marching right (the flag’s own right) ..." In the picture you mention PhreeZone, if one considers the 4-way Diamond Crew Stack as a "procession" this same demo team is incorrectly displaying the U.S. flag to the left of the Union Jack. I have been contemplating writting a letter to both those publications that have printed stores and picutes relating to this demo team as well as to this demo team itself voicing my displeasure regarding their, 1) Self promotion of their company / demo team by use of their logo in conjuction with the display of the U.S. flag... as well as... 2) Their incorrect display of the U.S. flag when displayed with other flags. Given the experience they claim their parachute demo team has (as per their website), I'd have thought they would have known better.
  6. Because, although "tongue-n-cheek" it is about skydiving and also I did pose the question whether or not folks would think that Point Break 2 would bring as many folks to the sport like the original Point Break did. To add, it is stated the General Skydiving Discussions forum is for "Have a skydiving related question? Get a skydiving related answer here". Where as the Bonfire forum is for "This is the place for non-skydiving related discussions." Thus, I submit that you have wrongly moved this thread to an incorrect forum. Now, if you want to go back and delete Spizzz's inane comments about Chuck Norris and chastise me for "thread drifting" my own thread with my retort to him along those lines, fair enough.
  7. Two things. When I arrived home today I found my July 07 issue of Skydiving in my mailbox. First, while reading this issue, on page 24 I found the article "Secuity Company Self-Promotes with Demo Jumps." Seems this article shows the demo team in question doing several things wrong that Airt and Zing have pointed out that show disrespect for the U.S. Flag. Second, unfortunately, turn the page of this same issue of Skydiving and one finds another article that shows how things can really go wrong when one jumps a large flag into a demo. The article "Demonstration Jump Turns Ugly for Ohio Skydiver" shows the member of a demo team breaking his back when the large flag he is jumping with evidently caught and snagged in a tree as the jumper approached the landing area.
  8. Hillary Klinton ? Bozo, I honestly don't want to know what causes you to free associate your way to Hillary... ON TOPIC... Do y'all think Point Break 2 will bring as many noobs out to jump for the first time like the original Point Break did??
  9. Yeah, yeah, yeah... Sizzzarko turns around, bends over and grabs his ankles when Chuck Norris walks into the room. Anyway... BACK ON TOPIC!
  10. ... More taking 20ish seconds to getting around to the PULL when in freefall at 1000'

  12. Sooo, Zippo, you're saying you like watching video of guys playing with themselves?
  13. Road trip to CA. Hang out at Skydive Taft. http://www.skydivetaft.com/ She'll pick-up on it.
  14. Yeah, unless a Grizzly Bear eats your ass after you land and while you're gathering up your chute.
  15. what is jumping smike??? Its a generic, non-name-brand, less expensive, version of smoke.
  16. Ask MJOSparky. He's flown really big flags on demos.
  17. Is that what this is about ?? Whether the number satisfies your definition of "many" in order to pick apart Terry's statement? So far, you have several (defined as, "more than two but less than many") and you have a few entire countries using this rule. These are interesting facts to know, just cool out on worrying about whether it is "many" or not. Jeeze. no, No, NO... this is NOT to pick apart Terry's words. Two things... 1st) I was trying to stobe the DZ.com verse to try to figure out really how many of the DZs in the U.S. require AADs for experienced jumpers because, frankly, I've heard it thrown around that "many" (or... a lot... or... lots... or... several... or... a majority... or
  18. What part of, "I don't much give a sh*t what's said here" don't you get? *Hello McFly!*
  19. Et All, Thanks for the info. If I've captured everything from everyone's posts correctly, thus far, we have the following DZs in the U.S. that require AADs for experienced jumpers: 1) Skydive Orange, VA 2) Skydive San Diego 3) Advernture Center Skydiving, Hollister 4) Carolina Skydiving (after 1/2008) 5) Skydive Kansas 6) Skydive Suffolk, VA and 7) Aero Skydiving Center Inc., Ohio or at least I've heard so, please, someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one Okay, a few more then I thought and there are likely a few more, but 7 out of 207? ... well, just me, I still wouldn't use the word "many".
  20. ... and you get to make the call what's right and wrong because.... ??? oh, wait, this is the Bonfire, sorry, I forgot, I don't much give a sh*t what's said here... ha
  21. Damn! When I read the thread title, I was hopin' it was me...
