  1. S.A.P.S. Skydivers Against Pink Shit Even the Pink Mafia? Can't do it, no- sorry. Well, there are exceptions that prove ever rule. Anyway, I thought the Pink Mafia was more of a "girls who like girls" thing, not really a clique type thing... or am I mistaken?
  2. 25 heavily armed parachutists land at Colorado prison They ID themselves as "Defense Department" employees after guards hold fire Military: They were Special Operations Command forces on routine training Prison official: "I'm not sure we'll ever know who they were" CANON CITY, Colorado (AP) -- No, they weren't coming to the rescue. Military officials said 25 heavily armed parachutists who landed in a cornfield on the grounds of a Colorado prison last week were on a training mission but landed about 3 miles off target. "Those were Special Operations Command forces conducting routine training," Army Col. Hans Bush, a spokesman for the command at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, said Monday. He declined to identify the units that landed at Fremont Correctional Facility but said the target was Fremont County Airport. The special operations troops, which could include Navy Seals or Green Berets, began dropping from the sky at about 4:50 a.m. Thursday. Guards on duty, who are trained to watch the skies following a helicopter escape in 1989 from a prison near Ordway, Colorado, held their fire after noticing the parachutists were soldiers. Guards who stopped the men and asked for identification were presented with documents that identified them only as Defense Department employees, Colorado Department of Corrections spokeswoman Katherine Sanguinetti. "We don't know who they were and I'm not sure we'll ever know who they were," she said. "Everyone acted appropriately." The parachute troops were armed only with rubber training bullets. "The good news is everyone was able to quickly assess the situation," Bush said. The Fremont Correctional Facility is a mixed custody facility that houses inmates classified from minimum to administrative segregation. It houses 1,471 inmates and employs about 450 people.

  4. Actually, its more like 200+ Tandems. She's got a restricted C-License.
  5. Well, one has to be discrete about such things and always repack their reserve in private.
  6. Its only skydivers that would think its funny to hit a girl in a wheel chair in the face with a pie... but I guess since we've also chucked her into a pool, in the past (relax, she can swim), this doesn't seem too bad.
  7. Or at least a working pen and a look at the data card before walking in to the office. Reason #2 for, "Why I got my riggers ticket" -- "My gear is ALWAYS in date!"
  8. Fair enough. While the consensus HERE may that the DZ's "no tracking on rental gear" may be its BS, the only real answer would be to hear the "why" from the DZ in question, but that all seems to be moot at this point.
  9. apb, I too have heard the "no FF" on rental gear at some DZs. I'd too like to hear why this particular DZ says "no tracking" either... to speculate wildly, possibly he or she got burned by someone renting their gear and going freeflying, but saying "oh, I was just tracking." To pull the pin on a grenade... I'm not so sure I'd be in a big hurry to rent a rig w/ canopy to someone with only 200 jumps that put them at a wing-loading of 1.4:1. A question back to you, "Will this motivate you to keep better track of when your reserve needs an I&R and make double sure its in date before you go someplace new?"
  10. True enough, but wouldn't want to discourage a newb from talking to their local rigger... plus how else do us riggers get the entertainment of re-explaining that "all those holes inside the canopy" aren't "holes", but are "crossports." Ummm... Karenmeal... can you look at my undies for me?
  11. AP, Come jump in the desert sometime. If you're not cafeful, you'll bring all kinds of stuff back in your canopy after gathering it up after landing and going back to the hangar. Besides enough sitcks and twigs to build a good sized fire by the end of the day. There's lots of rocks, gravel and sand to be had... I've also seen snakes and kangaroo mice come back in canopies! This not a bad thing and I don't want to discourage y'all since you seem to have a low number of jumps, so, please go ahead and do this and have the rigger explain to you things to look for when you hang-up & inspect your canopy, but in time, you should get comfortable do this by yourself. The more you know about your own gear, the better off you are.
  12. Is it just me or is the "Email Notification" that comes when comeone reply's to one's post really slow and/or erratic for everyone? I seem to be getting notifications that are days to several days old.
  13. IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP Never pull the pin on an M18 Smoke Grenade and toss it so it rolls into the dry brush near the DZ Landing Area.
  14. ... and for those who prefer a domestic (U.S.) beer or an import from Mexico, rather the Holland...
  15. ... makes me want to grab a couple of Heinekens
  16. Do you think freedom of speach should apply to those who would overthrow the U.S. or any other democracy that entitles its citizens to freedom of speach? YES absolutly Interesting. I have a tough time when I see the KKK or Neo-NAZIs in the U.S. using the Bill of Rights against the very people and country they would overthrow as a "shield" to spread their hate and ignorance. I very much doubt our founding fathers ever envisioned or intended such a misuse to be allowed... but that's just me.
  17. Belly Bands? Is one of those cut-away/main release systems a "flip-flop"? third guy from the left I was also going to note they were attempting an 8-way with only 7 jumpers, but then gave the benifit of the doubt that the 8th guy (or gal) was the one that took the 3rd picture.
  18. Do you think freedom of speach should apply to those who would overthrow the U.S. or any other democracy that entitles its citizens to freedom of speach?
  19. Oh! You say that like its a bad thing!!!??!
  20. I'm familiar with the saying... paragliders stole it from skydivers.
  21. I jump a Sabre2 170. Awhile ago, I demo'ed a Katana 170. Size for Size, I thought the Katana packed up slightly larger then the Sabre2, but it wasn't a significant difference. This preception could have been because of a couple of things... 1) The Katana was a lot "newer" then my SA2... 2) The Katana had the PD Logo on the bottom skin, thus, an extra layer of material on a good bit of the bottom skin. Anyway, I think my Sabre2 170 packs up smaller then my legacy Sabre 170, but PD has told me, size for size, the Sabre2 and Sabre have the same pack volume... ...so what do I know.
  22. ... I'll bet he can't wait to jump a highly overloaded crossbraced canopy either. ... unless mommy and daddy are loaded or own a DZ, how does an 18 year old afford to skydive anyways???
  23. I figured as much. I still want to say I've seen the s/n at two spots on the inside of my Sabre... but don't really feel like pulling it out now and crawling through it to confirm or deny... low beer light is on here. Anyway, if it really is at two places on the inside, I wonder if its the same s/n in both places...
  24. Rem, Monky, If you crawl through a PD canopy you can usually find the s/n written inside the canopy on at least one of (if not more) of the ribs. A ways back when I sent my Sabre 170 in for a re-line, the death lable had long since become illegable, but they were able to recover the s/n from reading it off of one of the ribs (and then the DOM from their records) and reprint both on the death lable with a sharpie without replaceing the whole death label. I knew the s/n was on a rib somewhere because I had seen it before.
