I gave up all "credibility as a skydiver when I let those ratings expire. oh well bozo Credability as a skydiver has nothing to do with the thread non rated instructors is what it's about. We have a different system here in OZ and I'm glad that "rated instructors are the people doing the teaching, whilst I know not all instructors are good, you have a much better chance of being taught by a good instructor if certain minimum standards are expected of them and the ratings are meant to provide those standards. ---------------------------------------------------------- Squeak....im sorry....I should have put a sarcastic emoticon next to that particular statement. Sorry, I thought you were slamming USPA. You are right, I read a lot into your post. I guess I'm just on edge about people that slam USPA. _____________________________________________ Well........I have been a paying member of USPA almost as long as you have and I appreciate the things they do. What I meant was that I wasnt doing many tandems , since I bounced,(400) and I hadnt had a staticline student in several years so there was no sense in my paying increasing renewals every year. I know who I am as a skydiver...the people on this board that know me know also...thats good enough. As for this other guy who showed up asking the original question......a rat is a rat.... period. That's one of the ways USPA makes money. What's wrong with that? You want them to just pull money out of their butts? USPA needs money to operate. If you don't want to join USPA then don't. f your ratings have expired you are no longer qualified (despite your nearly 3,000 jumps) even to make a 2-way with a 24-jump skydiver who has yet to get his/her "A" license, while a USPA Coach with 120 jumps is perfectly qualified to do that. I have 2 '9 inch' rods & 6 screws in my spine, and it was a year long process of stretching, walking, working with weights...before life even stared to feel 'normal'. ool] Two 14 inch rods in the spine here......Jim.....I cant begin to imagine what "normal" was. bozo bozo Pain is fleeting. I dont usually post here, but as a longtime former instructor, this needs said. I was jumping at our local DZ yesterday....sitting in the back of the Caravan......engine running, plane starting to move, when two youngsters came running up to the door with their gear on.....sort of. I opened the door and they crawled in. The one kid sat down in front of me and buckled his seatbelt belt, and said..."boy we just barely made it". After takeoff we got all settled and comfortable and I began looking this kids gear over.......cheststrap misrouted......legstraps hanging a foot out, untucked. flaps on the backpack flapping. I asked the kid how many jumps he had and was that his gear....."no its rental gear and I have 20 jumps. You newbies need to understand.....no jump is worth your life.....dont let someone rush you to a plane until youre ready. Make sure your gear is correctly adjusted and straps are stowed. With the help of the girl behind him we got the kid all squared away and he had a great jump. He thanked me as we were walking back from the peas, for giving a shit. I do. bozo bozo Pain is fleeting. Someone else's tasteless boorish behavior should not be used as an excuse for our own. Professor.....would you feel just as pacifistic if this funeral was a certain Army Ranger ? At the university I just retired from, a student group was going to burn a flag on the mall. I was there with my superintendant......I told him if they try it I will stop it. He said if you do I will have to fire you. My response was......"thats fine". The kids pulled out a 3x5 flag and a Bic lighter. I walked into the group and told the kid with the flag if he lit it I would kick his ass taking it away from him. Luckily for both of us he gave me the flag. Some things just need done....no matter your perception of right or wrong. From the comments I have received it seems like a bunch of us old timers are seeing the same thing. As another longtime jumper I couldnt agree more.
