The fella that owned the canopy,that Rita was jumping, when she was hurt ,was his. It was what she wanted, he had one and she felt it was well within her ability. Having spent most of my adult life as a skydiver,JM/I , TM/I it would stand to reason that I have personally trained literally hundreds of students. With the advent of tandem I did thousands. Never in all those myriad of students did I see the energy and desire that Rita had. Of course she had no business skydiving and her story played out that way. Theres no way on this earth that I would/could try to still that kind of enthusiasm. I hope to see it again.....but as it is Christian...I havent as yet. How do I know that? Reading this thread make me extremely sad. Winsor, you know as well as I do why Rita was passed along by her jumpmasters....she was a checkbook full of money to those guys. Thats why they kept pushing her along.....and you know it. I know Rita personally......opinionated ?Hell yes, shes an attorney now.....good trait to have. Rita loved skydiving more than anyone on this forum, too bad she never had an ounce of athletic ability. She had more heart than any of you. There are some of us in the sport that tried to help her for free.....myself included. I had many talks with Rita telling her if she didnt get serious she was going to get hurt....and she did. Why ? I jumped the DC4 in the early '80s at Coolidge. It took over 100 I think. One guy did rope and ring magic tricks in the back on the way to altitude, and a blow up doll was tossed around before being the first to exit. It took forever for the pilots to get it ready before takeoff. ------------------------------------------------------- It seems like that Coolidge DC-4 held 120 jumpers. I made many many jumps from it in the early 80s They used it to haul frozen fish during the season in Alaska then we go it during the off time. Nice airplane bozo bozo Pain is fleeting. In order to survive in this sport you should learn from a survivor. How does one find out who the survivors are? I know they are still out there jumping but are they approachable? Are the survivors making any effort to share there knowledge or are they just sitting back with their beer watching new people learn the hard lessons they themselves learned it (the hard way). I know I can speak for Sparky along with a few others here. I wish I had a buck for every newbie ive helped.....I could buy an Otter. Most of the newbies listen....some dont. I think you will find that "the older jumpers" had very little to do with the way things are today. Our generation has a whole nother set of ways to kill our selves. And dying under an open canopy wasn't one of them. Sparky Well said Mike.
