  1. If he could tell it would be bad just by seeing your bag lift off, then that observation had nothing to do with your canopy. Did he witness bag dump? I think a great way to prevent that is to not use regular rubber bands for the locking stows. Why don't those with original Sabre's or any canopy that acts up go right to the proven remedy of the pocketed slider? I certainly would, any decent local rigger can do it. 2. The comb forward is almost as bad. Donald Trump's hair is pathetic. He actually seems to have enough that he wouldn't look so bald, but his vanity is just too much. You'd think a guy with that much money would get it moved/plugs/whatever they call it. The comb over combined with a swirl for more effective coverage is triple bad. One of the Gallagher's lines, "They say baldness is hereditary, that it is in your genes. Well they're wrong, I got plenty of hair in my jeans, its the hair on my head I'm worried about." 4. The US reg apparently says that an FAA rigger (US licensed) must be the one to pack it, but I doubt that part would be checked. You should get the lead seal put on, if that is not required in the UK. The WFFC web site is down, so I can't confirm the wording they have to remind foreign jumpers of the requirements. It seems like the gear itself isn't checked at boogies anymore, I remember the WFFC site saying that you'll need just the reserve card and log book. That sure opens up the possibility of people borrowing a friend's reserve card. If others know different, please confirm. 7. Not so. I notified the person in charge of the list, notifying them that Skydive Greene County was most definitely not affiliated, but they would only add them to the list after being contacted by the DZO, which did promptly happen. I found the link: http://www.1800skyrider.com/links/links_index.htm That is an awfully long list for such a pessimistic view. I think the 'high financial yield' is not the actual experience of many DZOs, and peer pressure will be enough of an extra push to get them to get their butt off the fence. I sure hope Kapowsin is not affiliated, and has just not bothered yet to get on the list. 8. What's the beef with them? I've heard about them being the ultimate tandem mill, and that experienced jumpers are not welcome except for the staff and students that trained there. 10. Ya don't know Nietzsche? You need to study your philosophers young man! Here's some help: The Philosopher's Song Immanuel Kant was a real pissant Who was very rarely stable Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar Who could think you under the table David Hume could out consume Schopenhauer and Hegel And Wittgenstein was a beery swine Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya 'Bout the raising of the wrist Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed John Stuart Mill, of his own free will On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill Plato they say, could stick it away Half a crate of whiskey every day Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle Hobbes was fond of his dram And René Descartes was a drunken fart "I drink, therefore I am" Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed A lovely little thinker But a bugger when he's pissed People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 12. The swift recall was only for the 5 cell swift, not the cirrus. It was some sort of problem with the airfoil profile or line spec that made it have a very poor flare. 13. There is a site with a list of the DZs that do NOT do business with them. I can't find it now. 14. It is a 5 cell, 230 sq ft I believe. It is very square. As in the chord and span are nearly identical. It is very stable. Not very fast. It was marketed as the big boy alternative to the original Swift 5 cell which was much smaller. It was discontinued as they came out with the Swift Plus in larger sizes. At your wingloading, it will be good for you and be a conversation starter if you use it. ParaFlite got out of the civilian market many years ago. They no longer have any sport canopy info on their website. How old is it? I hope it was real cheap. 15. Note - Fritjof Capra is a high energy physicist. It is fascinating to me how such people that are not thought of as being interested in religion can become so fascinated when they see the parallels. 16. Now you are getting into the area of free will. If we have free will, then humans can choose to destroy the planet regardless of the existence of God. If we don't have free will, then how can anyone be held responsible for their actions, since it is all part of the plan (including pondering this issue itself)? I think the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything is much closer to what religions teach than what atheists teach (not the number 42). For once I would like to hear of a religion that admits it doesn't have everything figured out yet. I suppose some of the eastern religions are this way. I found the book The Tao of Physics by Fritjof Capra to be VERY interesting. The following is a summary description of the book: First published in 1975, The Tao of Physics rode the wave of fascination in exotic East Asian philosophies. Decades later, it still stands up to scrutiny, explicating not only Eastern philosophies but also how modern physics forces us into conceptions that have remarkable parallels. Covering over 3,000 years of widely divergent traditions across Asia, Capra can't help but blur lines in his generalizations. But the big picture is enough to see the value in them of experiential knowledge, the limits of objectivity, the absence of foundational matter, the interrelation of all things and events, and the fact that process is primary, not things. Capra finds the same notions in modern physics. Those approaching Eastern thought from a background of Western science will find reliable introductions here to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism and learn how commonalities among these systems of thought can offer a sort of philosophical underpinning for modern science. And those approaching modern physics from a background in Eastern mysticism will find precise yet comprehensible descriptions of a Western science that may reinvigorate a hope in the positive potential of scientific knowledge. Whatever your background, The Tao of Physics is a brilliant essay on the meeting of East and West, and on the invaluable possibilities that such a union promises. Even Werner Heisenberg (of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle) wrote a book somewhat similar to this. Very interesting reading my friend. Maybe you'll have some free time at Lackland AFB to read it? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 17. A good jumpsuit mfg will take your dimensions and weight, then advise you on the best way to achieve a desired, relaxed fall rate. My first suit from Tony that I ordered resulted in them calling me to confirm their opinion that I needed the double layers of heavy fabric in the arms and legs. This added stiffness can mean a lot of extra drag for the same bagginess of the suit. Of course it is hotter, but well worth it. On my 2nd suit from Tony, I also paid for the swoop cords, even though I haven't needed them yet. I suggest you get a suit from a mfg that has the ability to predict your needs like this and decide for you how much baginess is right and how big the wing area needs to be. I don't know which others have this capability. It is very frustrating, and you cannot have much success flying at the extreme edge of your fallrate range. 19. There was a service bulleting issued in '94 to check bartacks on the cascades. I've had a ride on the 200 sq ft version when I weighed about 215 without gear, and the 225 sq ft when I was 230. They both had a really good flare. edited to fix the link to the SB: http://www.paraflite.com/PDF/Service%20Bulletin%20Swift%20Plus%20Bartacks.pdf People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 21. I wouldn't think that propwash could affect anything after a 1 second delay before you even started to deploy. I guess that is an advantage to mini 3-rings that is not usually appreciated. 23. As Phreezone said, I think you're confusing it with stack, or flat packing. If you are rolling the nose and tail both toward the center (not the center cell, but the center as in toward the C and B lines as it is layed on its side), then you should not continue to pack that way. That is also called the 'briefcase' style. Flat/stack packing can be done in a way that is OK, however. I still do it, and I know a multi time world champion that's been around 25 years and when he does pack for himself, still stack packs his stilleto, and does it faster than a pro-pack. Many riggers will also pack reserves in a stack pack method. edit - to answer your question, why did flat packing stop? Because you can do it in less space and because it involves less crawling aroung on the ground. Some will argue that it orients the canopy better, but I think there is little to no difference compared to a proper stack pack the way it is applied to reserves. 25. See how much force a reserve PC will provide on the next high wind day, it won't deploy a reserve (at least any day that you should be jumping).
