  1. You can't count on them getting this right. A while back they said that Richmond/Skydive Wayne County was affiliated, when they are not. Some other DZs in my area were correctly said to not be affiliated though. 3. Again, these same jumpers, I contend, WOULD do the jump if it was before the age of cypres. That is the big difference. Now, they don't have to do without it. 4. Before the introduction of the cypres, people did big ways and raft jumps and freakflying and other things that definitely had extra risk. If an individual thinks that they would have chosen not to do such jumps back then (before modern AADs were available), then they should not do them now. I think VERY few would choose to not do the jump. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 5. Where is that picture? I remember many years ago some guys (maybe british) were taking a few rows linked together out of a C-130. Doing 3 rows out of a skyvan is certainly more ambitious. 7. When you get a chance and a few more jumps, try rolling a tube out the door. This is not a freefly tube, what I mean is that 3 or 4 people get caterpillar grips on each other, forming a loop/circle back on itself. One person has to lie on their back with their knees at the edge of the door, the others then move in over the top to complete the grips, usually grabbing the leg straps instead of grippers. Then you just roll it out the door. It is really easy with tailgate planes, just slightly harder with a side door. It is really fun to see ground-sky rotating around so fast, and you are looking at your friends laughing along with you. When you want it to stop, everyone can let go of the same side grip to make a donut formation. 8. A reservation might be an ideal place for a DZ. Maybe no restriction on repack cycle. Maybe less risk for law suits. Maybe less taxes for the owner. Maybe I'm wrong about these maybes? 9. By not breaking so easily I think they do in fact function better. They produce enough friction, just like the freestow on a reserve bag does. The same freestow elastic cord material has also been used as an alternative to rubber bands for the locking stows for main D-bags. In my experience they do last a very long time, and are very tough even after they start to split, in contrast to rubber bands, which tend to break very easily once they start to split. They can be made with simple tools very cheaply, as I described in my earlier post. The next time you notice a that a locking stow has broken, consider that it might have broken before line stretch, and the consequences if the canopy gets out as a result of one or 2 locking stows breaking early. This issue has been discussed at great length already, but I think it is worth doing it all again because it is so important. The old guy with the big beard that designed a lot of our stuff advises that we use them for the locking stows. 10. Wrong. I have read many times of the reaction that will occur between brass and rubber bands. My memory tells me that they will stick together. I'll try to find a reference. 11. If what you saw was Phill: http://automobiles.honda.com/models/civic_gx_phill.asp?ModelName=Civic+GX It is not to make hydrogen, but that might be in the works also. 12. The typical answer is that rubber bands break easier and that prevents bag lock malfunctions. Plenty of bag locks happen with mil-spec bands, but the fact that they typically break easy is a damn good reason not to use them for locking stows. The locking stows are often under a lot of tension even before the bag is accelerated off your back. If your locking stows break at the wrong time you have bag dump and a likely explosive opening. I think that a good many explosive openings are due to locking stows breaking at the wrong time. I would rather deal with a high speed bag lock than an explosive opening than injures me and destroys my canopy. Notice how the jump shack's new reserve 'speed bag' uses so many of these rubber bands as locking stows. John Sherman doesn't trust his reserve design to just a couple of those wimpy things. I make my own tube stows really cheap, and make them the length that I need from the bulk silicone tubing you can find in the fishing/sporting goods section of any department store (really cheap per foot). Use a pair of needlenose pliers to turn one end over about 5mm. Insert the closed pliers into the other end and open the pliers to expand the tubing. Now take a pair of hemostats (sp?) or similar instrument used for other purposes to grab the turned over end of the tubing and insert it into the opened end. Carefully slide the tubing off the pliers and you're done. No need to glue anything. 18. If they track away early, it often happens that they will either: 1) track for a normal length of time and then hover/hang out until pull altitude, allowing the rest of the group to track a normal length of time, and end up right over the top = bad situation. 2) track away for the entire rest of the skydive, allowing themselves to go into the vertical space of a group that exited before or after (please don't depend on being able to track across the jump run) = bad situation. Either way, the rest of the group is left wondering where the low jumper went, instead of being able to see that the low guy is "right there still struggling to get back up". There is absolutely no question which is the correct answer, please do not accept any other opinion on this subject. 21. Did you get a discount for ordering with your rig? It would be nice if mfgrs would offer a discount if you order them at the same time. I have spare cutaway and reserve handles, but only because I decided to change to a loop cutaway and low profile D-handle reserve after getting my rig. I did have a spare freebag for my old rig, but that was because it was a very special order that would not be so easy to repeat (not originally intended for a square reserve). 22. The only suits I've ever had (2) were Tony, they called me up to confirm my weight/dimensions/fall rate target before starting, and I've never had anything need to be fixed. The really heavy fabric, with double layer arms and legs will help a lot, and yes, the swoop cords can help, but you're better off to achieve your fall rate without it. 24. A lot of inefficient vehicles are used as single person commuters, I agree that these deserve criticism. A Suzuki Samurai doesn't deserve to be considered in the same way as a Cadillac Escalade. A lot of people have large pickups because they use the bed a couple times a year for mulch or something that can simply be delivered for a very small fee. With more SUVs having 7 or 8 seats lately, they are also serving the same role as minivan for many that don't like the styling/image of minivans. Again, please criticize gas hog vehicles of all types, not just SUVs. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 25. Have you had a chance to see how your reserve lines are stowed on your infinty? Yes, not at all similar. Only two locking stows, the rest put in the pouch, std setup for a freebag. The length of the stows seems excessive in the picture, and they are pushed together, this combination seems like a bad idea in principle.
