  4. You mean the old 138 I used? If you wish to marry it, you have my blessing. It's a great machine and wish it were mine. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  5. If you're cutting it yourself, put it in the rig and put it on. Flex the housings then let them relax. Make a mark 6 inches above the exit point of the cable housing. If you have an RSL, I suggest 6 1/2 for the RSL side, and 5 1/2 for the non-RSL side. Cut at the mark Before you melt the free end, practice on the scrap pieces. hold the flame downward and put the end of the scrap piece into the bottom of the flames arc. If it's put into the top, it gets sooty. Heat only the very very tip, then carefully and quickly slide your fingers up and off. It takes practice to get it right but it's also fairly simple. Chances are, you'll create a little pointy end so take some ultra fine sand paper or similar, and nick the point of the Lolon off. (Lolon equals the yellow coating) Hope that helps My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  10. For an actual downplane situation, cutaway immediately. A downplane under any set of canopies is a big deal. Think about landing a PD 253, and a Navigator 260, that was pointed straight down in a nicely plowed field. It's going to hurt. Move the plowed field and put a fence or telephone pole, or other assorted rocks trees, building ... etc, in it's place. If Racers are being used in a student program, be damn sure the double RSL has been replaced with a single side RSL. Expecting someone to disconnect an RSL before cutting away is ludicrous. 12. Maybe so, but the question is valid. The reasoning behind it is the fact I have jumped a fairly recently home made parachute. It was designed and built by someone with less than 50 jumps at the time. This was not a kit. If you care to see a picture of it I'll take one when I get home tonight. Nice referrence to Monty Python. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  13. Now that's funny.A person who has no rigging experience can builds a canopy and do anything he wants to it. According to some of the posts in this thread, he, or a senior rigger is not allowed to replace a line on a proven (non TSOed) product when the specs and the parts are readily availible? By the way, my current rig is set up to accept an RSL but was not shipped with the lanyard. (To keep on track ) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  14. Yep, my friend Peter had a brake line break while flaring to land after a swoop approach. His DZ.com handle is Titaniumlegs. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  15. I was serious about this question. Very few people have made their own parachute but since it does happen on occasion, where does it fit into the 'only a Master Rigger can change lines' theory? Since the user himself built it, is he not allowed to change his own lines, modify the trim, etc ... ? It's a main like any other main. What are your thoughts on this? 16. YES!!! I heard about it today from his "Coach". A big congratulations is in order Nice work you guys. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  17. What are the regulations towards the following scenario? A new skydiver gets the idea to build a parachute and actually does it. The skydiver is not a rigger of any sort, nor does he work under the supervision of anyone but himself. After completion, the parachute gets assembled onto risers, packed up into a rig and jumped. 18. Woops. I meant will be legal ... not are legal ... My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  19. Does that mean only the risers that came with the rig are "legal" to use? My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  20. The machine itself is awesome. The 145 is a walking foot machine so it's not really what you want for everyday rigging. Here's a an ebay ad for what looks to be the same machine. Pfaff 145 I had a 138, and now have a 238. Both of those machines will do what you want if you choose Pfaff. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  21. Could you approve a copy of this approval? If there is such an approval, I will approve the approval if he doesn't. Hope that helps. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  22. What is the exact wording? "Should not" and "must not or TSO is void" are not the same. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  23. Freeflyers wear them snug only to keep the rig from moving around. It has nothing to do with keeping a straighter torso. Arching occurs all the time in 3D flying. If the chest strap is so tight you can't arch... that's Really tight. Mine stays about the same flying flat or flying 3D. It also happens sometimes if the lift web is a bit too long. It's a lot easier to tighten the chest strap so each side of the main lift web is closer together. Some people over tighten because they can and no real thought was put into it.
