  1. How old? I have a Raven III (Tom has seen this canopy) and it had the Tail-Seam reinforcement. I put a tail pocket on it so I know this for certain. The Raven he was looking at on ebay will definately have it. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  2. Why though? I have jumped both canopies but neither one in a BASE environment. I preferred the Fury over the Raven in the skydiving environment. Keep in mind this was quite a few years ago. I didn't have a main for a short time and was at the DZ every day, so I borrowed a Fury, a Raven, and a Falcon for a couple weeks ... (The falcon doesn't count for this discussion) The Fury opened, flew, and landed well. The Raven was less friendly on opening until it had some jumps on it. The raven is a bit more ground hungry too. I felt the sinkability was better on the Fury. The sizes (at least the placarded sizes) are about the same - 220 versus 218, so that's comparable. I guess here's what I'd suggest. Go with the price availability since it's for skydiving. Both will do the trick. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  3. There's no need to be. If you're not going to use the RSL, hooking it to the cutaway housing is a safe place for it to be. If you don't plan to hook it back up, leave it there. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  5. They have to read the forums anyway... so it really makes me think that besides making someone angry, that clicking the Banned button and setting the banning time for 2 weeks, 3 days, 60 days, permanent... whatever is not THAT much grief. I'm sure it's a pain to clean up certain threads but if someone accepts a moderator job, that's what they get to do sometimes. Honestly this concerns me little so it surprises me that I'm finishing this post. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  7. For practicing BASE specific canopy control in the skydiving world, would you suggest a Fury with dacron lines CRW ready or a Raven of similar size (Raven II) with Micro line? Keep in mind this canopy will be soley used for skydiving. For kicks lets put a price cap of 300 on each canopy. The Fury would have 50 jumps (all skydiving) and the Raven II is Used with 0 jumps. Reason for that question is Ravens tend to come with Spectra lines unless they were specifically ordered with Dacron. I've done a lot of searching for used parachutes and finding a Raven with dacron in the size mostwanted is looking for hasn't proven easy. Fury's have a longer control range which of course is less important if the wingload is pretty low. Fury's also tend to open nicer than a Raven with Microline. Thoughts? 8. I tried to get banned a long time ago so I could get some work done, but asking for it didn't work. I made the list once but had I known it existed perhaps I would have given my all. peaceful man jeffrey Ron Skin Cornishe was on a ban rampage for a while hmm Well, that's about as much thought as I'm willing to put into it.
  9. The firing range of an FXC pin puller is not very precise. Placing one on a reserve is a pretty scary thing to do. As for setting a CYPRES, Adventure center in Hollister has a landing zone field elevation of about 350 feet higher than the runway. The hills around it are up to about 300 feet higher as well. They tend to set the CYPRES for 460 and 490 up. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  10. I'll await the outcome of the incident report because this sounds ike a low pull more than anything. Edit to add: There is no time for a jumper to react to a CYPRES fired reserve realize there's a baglock then fire the main. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... 11. Freebags are there to help avoid horeshoe malfunctions, or if the reserve gets fired with the main still out. If the reseve pilot chute is tangled with any part of the main the advantage of a bag and pilot chute not being attached is pretty clear. Spring loaded Pilot chutes can and do, often fall over the nose of the canopy on deployment. This causes a nifty control problem especially if the reserve is small. If the reserve is deployed unstable, it's best to get the canopy out to line extension before presenting it to the air. Pulling feet to the sky, IE tumbling .. the entire canopy will drag across your body parts. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  12. First... Say it!!! FIRST!!! First... rhymes with thirst. I saw you on the big screen in Byron today. A horny gorilla with you beating your chest and another dive or 2. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  17. Ok, thanks. Tight... well, Tombstone is certainly not tight I'm not quite sure why you would say that. The Ace/BlackJack have a whole lot of glide. fixed it for you I fixed it back. It has a large range. It will glide a long way in full flight or 1/4 brakes and it will sink quite steep with 3/4 brakes or just above stall. Anyway, the bottom line is it's a good parachute and I'll be happy to swoop the same landing zone with you sometime. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  18. At that point, yep!!! well safish... whatever. Yellow lighting clad jumper is now off doing his own imitation of a helicopter leaving the rest of the formation to soar peacefully towards Mother Earth to land in a soft meadow with deer and butterflies and cool, clean, fresh water stream to drink from. Yellow lightning clad jumper will at some point tire of the helicopter imitation and remove that particular accessory to replace it with the latest style of all f-111 ram-air reserve type canopy. All the while cursing at the freebag and yellow Lightning as it drifts into the trees... about 3/4ths of a mile away from the soft meadow with deer and butterflies and cool, clean, fresh water stream to drink from. His landing is in the pig ranch. He's safe... just angry. The happy ending is the fact he got away with stealing a small pig to keep as a pet while he saves up for a new Lightning. 19. Where does the report indicate a design flaw? I see a high speed deployment with a Raven reserve. If it was a Raven -M reserve prior to the service bulletin, then it's the reserve not the deployment system. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  21. Yes it will swoop with the correct input but it has very good deep brake approach characteristics. I'm not sure your comment is meant to suggest the BlackJack has only "fast" flight characteristics or has the available faster flight characteristics. Continuum 2 has some very good footage of JimmyP swooping his BASE canopy. I think it's a Dagger. He made it do that with front riser input. In other words, he hooked it in. I've hooked in my old Mojo (and several other 7 cell canopies) and it swooped fairly well. Depending on the landing zone and my mood, I'll either sink it, or swoop it. The BlackJack is not a radical canopy, it's just a big ass 7 cell like the others. If you let it fly in full flight, it will go pretty fast but honestly, how often do you use full flight mode on any BASE canopy? In a tight landing zone, probably never. 22. Get it looked at. You may be able re-hab the shoulder with "PROPER" excersizes and maybe not. I've had shoulder trouble for 20 years and finally learned how to strengthen it properly. So far so good but it's not nearly as good as my other shoulder. If I had known... or knew where to look at the time... how to strengthen it the first time, my shoulder would be normal. Don't fuck around with shoulder injuries. It's the only joint in the body with 360 degree range of motion. Check out the doc in Brittany's post... seriously.
