  1. Ding, ding........... We have a winner! It's called sympathic fire, and it is the most likely cause of the 46 rounds being fired. Not cold blooded murder, not blood lust, it's a matter of training. I hate to interject logic into this, but someone has to. There are any number of ways to prevent that from happening, a designated "cover/contact" officer(s), an earlier intervention by a trained officer(s) specifically in dealing with the mentally ill, etc. These situations often unfold in a very dynamic manner and they are easy to Monday morning quarterback. I would agree that 46 rounds is excessive, but the actual shooting appears to be justified, sad, but justified. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTd471QNwTc&NR=1&feature=endscreen Brought to you by Taser International........ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  3. A critical research question is whether officers can become too reliant on CEDs. During interviews with officers and trainers, the researchers heard comments that hinted at a "lazy cop syndrome." Some officers may turn to a CED too early in an encounter and may rely on a CED rather than on their conflict resolution skills or even on hands-on applications.*** Couldn't agree more, but that is a supervision and culture problem. Here is a video of a textbook taser use, hands-on failed so he went to the taser. Without a taser this could have ended much differently (plus it's funny). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Is0GxWNYos "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  4. Here ya go, http://www.nij.gov/journals/267/use-of-force.htm Tasers are an effective tool to reduce both officer and suspect injuries. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  5. Don't confuse them with facts Dave....... They've seen the videos on the internet and are armchair experts. I've explained the use of force continuum here numerous times, sometimes it ain't pretty, but using force seldom is. I've lived this for over 25yrs, thought I was done but my family situation brought me back.........again.......;) "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  6. After you update your profile, remove the "Kick Me" sign YOU keep putting on your back. The other kids are laughing at you. 'jus trying to help you out....... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  7. For me it was family, work, and knee problems. When I was younger I didn't have alot of money but I had more time. Now that I'm older I have a little more money and a lot less time it seems. I had to cut something and skydiving was it, I bought a motorcycle to help fill the void a bit, still the the itch to jump often. I kept one of my rigs in case I ever jump again, we'll see, hopefully some day. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  8. Dolphins are good, sound, no-frills containers. I've owned two and liked them both. The customer service is great and some mods make them more free-fly friendly. Downside is the resale value is not that great. For a first rig, I'd recommend the Dolphin. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  9. Look at the SOTH background, then look at many of the most outspoken democrats backgrounds. Then tell me who is more in touch with the "common man" Pelosi was an ice princess who thought she was queen. I'll take the speakers tears, the man has been a success coming from very humble beginnings. If he screws up like previous speakers have, then he'll be gone too. We'll see "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  10. An assumption, a wrong one, but an assumption none the less. You know what they say about assuming...... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  11. ***When the bad guy starts monologuing, you know you're going to get away.*** Very true, Those that are going to kill, usually just do. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  12. This is from an LEO perspective, Thanks for lecturing, I've been carrying that "spare tire" for many years. Shall I educate you on conditions white, orange, and red? I know I don't need too, why should you think the same of me? Let it go, the guy did a good job, the thing worked out,,,,,,,,,,,geez... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  13. That quote was rather surprising coming from you. Not at all, but some of your comments didn't make sense or were misinformed. A perception, incorrect, but whatever floats your boat. Your posts are normally very level headed, it just seems you were a bit hard on this guy before the facts were in, that's all I'm saying. No disrespect intended. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  14. A lawyer making a dumb comment, what a surprise........ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  15. You can't run around all day every day in condition red. TV cops do, real ones don't. The ones that are hyper alert all the time burn out, get in more fights, and get the most complaints. It's about training and playing the averages. I seldon carry when I'm off duty, I do carry when I go into work to catch up on stuff in the office on weekends or after hours. It appears that's what he was doing prior to going on vacation. Initial media reports are NEVER correct, many times the media venue reports on what they THINK is happening and fact come out later. I was a public information officer for many years in a major media market. I learned first hand just how inaccurate media reports are. I was actually involved in situations, then hear the media report and just laugh. People jump to conclusions or watch too much TV to know how actual police work goes, but they will comment without facts. This guy did a great job given the sitation, ripping him for stuff is silly. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  16. The guy wasn't supposed to be there he was going on vacation, he just happened to be in the building when he got the word of a guy spray painting on the wall. He wasn't there for the meeting itself Schools hire retired guys (like me), that way they get experience and don't have to pay benefits. The guy did an excellent job given the situation. Things could have been much worse, it's funny to hear all the monday morning QBing. Always happens after such incidents.... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  17. Unless I heard wrong, he DID go get his vest and more ammo. School shootings are very fluid, the old isolate and contain no longer applies. From my understanding he was notified that a guy was spray painting a wall and may have a gun. The officer was evening the odds, then peeked through the doors, and engaged when he saw the guy raise the gun. He was a shot too late and thought the guy killed his boss, he engaged and won. IMHO it was a case of suicide by cop, the guy could have killed many and didn't. I'm an SRO now and I have a specific plan in case of bad things happening, but each situation is fluid and the plan has to be adjusted accordingly. The female board member with the purse was brave, but not smart. In law enforcement we call that "tombstone courage". I worked our board meeting last night and I expect to work more for a while. 18. Damn you're right, I waited 27yrs and never got one, guess I can still dream........... But the theory still stands, I'd never want to fight against a platoon of pissed off butchy lesbians...... I'm just saying..... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  19. Ok Matt, I'll bite, let's address the 500lb elephant in the room. What would two good looking openly serving (so to speak) lesbians do for unit morale? Me thinks much... What would two pissed off butchy lesbians do for the unit mission? Me thinks much........ What does a flaming guy openly serving do for either? Me thinks not much...... There's my double standard.................. Now back to the serious discussion...... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  20. ......yawn............ Move along, nothing (new) to see here... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  21. There is no political meaning to this post, just FYI. .....sigh..... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  22. Relax man, Just trying to make a point, aren't you required to salute Mayor Dailey in Chicago? "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  23. Veterans can salute during the National Anthem while in civilian clothes. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  24. Dang, You've been making sense lately, is everything okay.... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  25. I'm no fan of BHO, this is much about NOTHING. Let's all keep this thing in proper perspective. It's not about the POTUS, it's not about some political agenda, it's about a young soldiers heroic actions under fire. Nothing more, nothing less. From everything I've read this young man will wear the medal well. He hasn't made the entire thing about him, why should some make it about the POTUS. Honor and respect the young man for his actions, honor and respect the office that presented him with our nations highest military honor. Geez......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
