Dave Grossman actually started the whole sheep vs. sheepdog thing many years ago. Cops understand the concept, some non-cops find it demeaning. The warrior mentality has a place in modern police work, the only problem is many don't understand it. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=687894971303123 A recent example, this is in Canada, where they have much stricter gun control. These shots fired type calls happen (unfortunately) monthly in the US. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

It's been a while since I've posted here, I've been reading some of the threads and thought this would be good reading for some. Read up on Columbine, the tactics used simply weren't up to the challenge, plain and simple. There have been many others, to numerous to list, but they also were factors in major changes that require more "military" type tactics. This article sums up the feelings of myself and most cops I know. I've been on the operational side of this for pushing 30yrs. http://www.uniformstories.com/the-militarization-of-the-american-police-department "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Nah Ron, You and I both know we'd just turn around, laugh and ignore this troll. He's a rank amateur in provocation compared to "them" (not mentioning "their" name)...... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

No good answer here, I've been in this situation, luckily in my case I didn't have to fight with the father, the fire was just too intense and the baby's room was fully engulfed, neither one of us could do a damn thing. What good does another fatality do for this family? None of you Monday morning QB's were there, nor have you been in this situation. The media is playing on this to stir an already unbelievably horrible situation. The police let him go in and die, their fault, they go in and try to save him, they get hurt, the FD goes in after everyone, they are at further risk. Try running into a fully engulfed house with no protective gear and see how long you last, again, I've done that too, not pleasant. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
Welcome to the wonderful world of the LEO fecal sandwich, want a bite? I've been doing this for a LONG time and have seen policies come and go. I've called off many more pursuits than I let my guys continue. Pursuits are a lot of fun but very dangerous for all involved, about one in a hundred end in a death, either the bad guy, an officer, or a bystander or all the above. In the grand scheme of things the investment isn't worth the return, society has pretty much determined. We chased a bank-robber once across state lines, he ended up running into a high school, that got pretty sporty. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Very true, Give the homeless something they can use, clothes, food, etc. If you give them cash they will shoot it up or drink it up in short order. Sad to say, they are usually homeless for a reason. I used to work in the concession stand during NFL games to raise money for my son's baseball team. We used to bring a garbage bag of leftover hotdogs, metts and brats to the homeless guys begging after the game, it was Christmas every Sunday (at least those Sundays). Police work is a thankless job, you see the dark side of humanity almost everyday. I've been in the game for over 25yrs, it's made me a decent living, but changed me in ways I never thought it would. Getting called out on Christmas Eve to fish a dead fetus out of a toilet ain't fun. That's just one example of many over my career. Not whining, I chose this so I deal with things as they come up. There are losers and dipshits in every career field, police work is no difference. The vast, vast majority of cops are very hard working people, who want to make a difference. 9mm has limitations I've observed first hand, (failed to penetrate a car door, when it really needed to). There are up-sides as well, less recoil, abilility to carry more rounds are two I like. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
-
Sounds like you aren't a fan of the 9mm.......... With that said, the Glock 26 is my choice, small concealable, plenty of rounds. I'm not a big fan of the .40 or .45 in a smaller framed gun. Just a personal choice. my 2 cents...... 9mm Corbon +P+ jacketed hollow points zip downrange over 1200fps. IMHO the Glock is the best/easiest weapon to transition to, basically point, pull the trigger, shoot. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

The DNC reaping what they sow, pretty simple..... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

That's because it's what they do. The DNC will have it's turn, and the situation will be the same (or possibly worse). "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Most lethal force encounters are within three feet, within three seconds. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Wow, Looks like we agree on something......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Ya got me, More of that logic.................. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

No problem, you can continue to make random assumptions, don't let facts (known or unknown) get in the way. If you can't debate, insult and get emotional. By definition, anyone who completes the hiring process and training ARE professionals, the degree of which varies as in any occupation. I do agree, after that reponse you have no credibility whether you give a hoot or not. Have a nice day................ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
-
Yawn................ You're right, all that training, practice, and experience mean nothing. A few years ago one of my guys was chasing an armed robber in a residential neighborhood. The guy turned around and pointed a gun at him from less than 10ft away. This guy had just robbed a couple at gunpoint. The officer did not fire because of civilians in his backstop, although he was in grave danger. You don't read about those in the news.........and they happen alot more than you think. Hopefully there were no killed/wounded by police gunfire, although it looks like some may have been. So a keyboard warrior comment like that just diminishes your credibility. Sorry, Didn't mean to imply you were (or are) a cop-hater. There are some here and the comment was directed toward them. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=589_1345502474 Not only do we have to deal with criminals, but "activists" who think they know their rights. This officer eats this dudes lunch, there are other videos of this same guy wandering around just waiting to get stopped. "I'm just taking a stroll" with a .22 version of an MP-5. Cops aren't perfect, not at all, but the sensational headlines are an extremely small percentage of police/citizen contacts. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

Yes I do, I also know what makes news, things that are sensational and unusual. There are thousands of police contacts daily in the US, many in high stress situations, a very small amount end up in the 24hour news cycle. The funny thing is I not only watch the news, I've lived this for 25yrs. I've made mistakes, the difference is a mistake in law enforcement can have real consequences. Internet keyboard warriors have no freakin' clue, and my catch phrase is; Pass the test, go through the training, strap-on the gunbelt, badge, and have at it............... I'll make an honest call on issues when one needs to be made, Rodney King, the response to Columbine come to mind. Both those incidents led to better training and changes in tactics. For all you cop-haters, you can find the audio of the response to the Colorado theater shooting. Listen to that and see the level of training of todays LEO's to a critical incident, it's was out fucking standing. When we fuck up the whole world knows in an instant, when YOU fuck up in your job can you say the same? How many squared away jumpers do you know that do something stupid or fuck up? It takes a certain personality to jump, same for law enforcement. Rant done...............I'm getting too old for this........(but the banter can be fun)...... If Rob Dyrdec (or Big Black) had a son, he'd look like........ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
What you saw was a video, taken from a distance away. You weren't there, neither was I, the guy had a knife and got shot, sad but true. No knife, no deadly force, it's really pretty easy if you think about it. I said "appears" given the facts known, I also said that 46 rounds was excessive given those same circumstances. I also gave a plausible explaination of that, not written in stone, just plausible. It's a sad situation all around. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

So are knee-jerk reactions, gotta love the 24 hour news cycle. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
