Aaah, that is true. My oversight. He still get's his T though, but I will give another one to the first person to get it with 2 words in dictionary.com. Keep at it! Safe swoops Sangiro

Ken and others, Let me clarify the "no advertising rule". Once you understand the purpose of these rules it's not that hard to connect the dots yourself. The difference between a post like the one Ken made (which I will include again later) and Tom's post becomes pretty obvious. These forums started off with 4 Rules only. As far as I'm concerned those 4 rules still form the bases of the rule system here. We've had to clarify what they mean and interpret them but you'll see that most all the guidelines tie back to these original rules. I'd like to explain a little why these rules exist and how I came up with them. I've read a little Complexity Theory and this community like all others is a complex system. Complexity Theory holds that you can create global order (large scale order in complex systems) by applying a few basic rules over, and over again at a local level. So, these rules were deliberately chosen and I'm hoping (and it seems to be working ok so far) that the dynamics between these four will keep us at the edge of chaos, where complex systems are at their most potent and creative. This is where we'll all learn the most. So the rules are: 1) No personal attacks. None. By taking this out of the loop I'm trying to suppress what seems to be one of the most common human reactions in conflicts and the one that in my experience of the web kills the most online communities. 2) No jokes about or references to pedophilia. None. This is a moral boundary. It basically says: "Almost anything goes, but not everything." Few people will disagree that this is the right place to draw the line. This line is pretty far out though. 3) No advertising in the forums A non-commercial clause, backed by providing a place where people can advertise gear (the classifieds) and events (the calendar) for free. The introduction of money making motives in communities often change the dynamic completely. The purpose of this rule is to remove that dynamic. 4) Post to the correct forum and stay on topic. A simple rule to prescribe and simple order. Back this with forums (The Bonfire and Speaker's Corner) where people can talk about whatever they want and you actually have an opportunity to cut noise for people to teach and learn. The purpose of this rule is to bring method to the madness. So that's what I was after. Tom's posts does not even touch on the reason why this rule was created. It breaches it in no manner. Further, because people have actually split hair about this in the past we've done quite a bit of work to more clearly define "advertising" in the guidelines: and further on... That's pretty clear, and pretty easy to understand. Look at your post: So the short answer is. If you post something and you have direct or hidden money making motive for whatever purpose (there are many noble causes out there), then it is likely to be seen as advertising and treated as such. We're not going to go overboard , but without any prejudice to the rules as they stand, there's a simple rule of thumb. If your post has a money making motive, you may bump into this rule. Sure, tell us right here what we need to do to get them for free. Do not try to get us to go over to your site for "more information". Do not try to get us to "peruse any products or services " Just give them away. Can I PM you my snail mail address and you'll send me one for free? Or is there something more to it than that? I commend the fact that you want to put all the money back into the sport, but for obvious reasons we're not going to open the rule up to go down that slippery slope. There are other ways to get the word out if you truly have a altruistic cause but unfortunately have to go at it through commercial means. Feel free to PM or email me and I'll help where I can.

Sorry, no punctuation. Here are the rules of Googlewacking: http://www.googlewhack.com/rules.htm "No other punctuation either, and no numbers - just 26 letters from A through Z." Safe swoops Sangiro

Heya all, Here's a challenge to everyone out there with too much time to kill. I will send a free Dropzone.com T-Shirt to the first person who does a Googlewack, using not more than 2 keywords where the result is pointing at a Dropzone.com page. What's a Googlewack you ask? A Googlewack is when you type a word or a pair of words into Google and it returns a single result. If that result happens to be pointing to Dropzone.com, you've wacked it! No more than 2 keywords. First person to find it gets a T. Go for it! Safe swoops Sangiro

Heya all, As most of you know by now Lisa (skybytch) has decided to move back to California from Florida. Before she took off we spoke and Lisa an I both felt that it made sense for her to take a break from moderating and focus on other more important things in her life at this time. Lisa has been a moderator since 2001. She was one of the first. Lisa has but an enormous amount of her own time into Dropzone.com on a totally voluntary basis and I for one believe that she has helped many people during that time with sound advice and a good laugh. I truly appreciate the time and effort she has put in to help me shape and build this community. I know she has made a huge impact here and as she leaves as a "greenie" she leaves Dropzone.com better than she found it. I couldn't ask for anything more. Lisa will still be around, the good advice and the laughs will continue, but I wanted to thank her for everything she'd done. Thanks Lisa.

Why not use classifieds to generate cash?
sangiro replied to cruzlite's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
The Dropzone.com Classifieds has always been free. I'm not going to change that now. Besides how will I know if the gear has been sold and how will I collect my 2%? The only way to do this really is to charge everyone for posting an add whether they sell it or not, and I don't like that model. If anything I'd rather build some new additional and voluntary services around the classifieds and users can choose if they want to use them or not. -

Show me a bunch of links to the types of conversations you'll have there. If they're not happening naturally... why would they happen otherwise? I like the idea and we've discussed it many times, I can be convinced but I just don't see the evolution. I don't want to set up a forum that will just turn into a venue for tunnel companies to flaunt their wares. Where are the conversations? Safe swoops Sangiro

Please check that caps-lock isn't on. Just tested this with no problem on 3 accounts. Alternatively send me a new password and I will channge your password for you. You can log in using that and change it again. Safe swoops Sangiro

JT, I absolutely understand. There's no way to build enough features out to please everyone. I have always said: The Premier Features is of value to you or it's not. That value is worth a fee to you, or it's not. That's why it is a voluntary subscription. Hope we add something in the future that you like.

Which I very much appreciate. Thank you.

Premiere members? As in Adobe Premiere? Safe swoops Sangiro

Premier + Banned = Banned Premier Member You do not have the right to a refund if you get banned as a Premier Member. You want to read 13 with 14(b) and some others. Lawrocket can explain all of that.... Feel free to contact me when that happens though. Without prejudice to my rights - if you're not going to play, I'm unlikely to want your money. PS - It's Premier, not Premiere Safe swoops Sangiro

Andy, Did you see this part? This has always been part of the original Terms of Use and I added it to the User Agreement. Safe swoops Sangiro
-
That's a feature I actually did not intend to use. I've switched it off. You should be able to create and unlimited amount of folders.
-
Folks, This request has been noted before. Please do not use the new Premier Support forum to request all the features again. I can assure you, I will continue to look at possible features, consider the number of requests for the, the value they add in relation to the effort to implement them as well as the resource impacts they have and make them available as it makes sense. In the meantime, please feel free to use the original Suggestions and Feedback forum for suggestions and use the Premier Membership support forum for that... for support. Safe swoops Sangiro

That pertains to all "original" content. (As it says in the agreement) Stuff we created... Logos, articles, layout etc etc etc.. I added the clause from our existing terms of use. If you upload stuff, you retain the ownership and we retain the right to use it anywhere on Dropzone.com. If you're not comfortable with that, don't upload photos or post to the forums. Safe swoops Sangiro

You don't have to. Just leave that blank. After yor first transaction with them they will create an account for you. The account is not to use their service, it's top change your subscription info in the future. You do need to keep the receipts you get from. It has all the account info.

No it doesn't. Not only does it not deserve the same priority, it will not get the same priority. I can "discriminate" against whichever part of my site as much as I want. It has nothing to do with you anyone who hangs out there. Do you really think I give the same priority to SC (where people enjoy banging their heads against a wall) as I do to Safety & Training, where there may actually be discussions and information that saves someone's life? I suspect you and I have a different sense of priorities. Speaker's Corner is NOT what this site is about. There is nothing in the pipeline to split the load in the way Tom suggested, but if I were ever to do something like that I will not think twice about watering down that forum. There are plenty of other places on the web where you can argue about guns. Safe swoops Sangiro

Yes, yes it's all true. I sit here all day fishing for really boring PMs from paranoid lawyers like yourself and then I read them, and then I call my neighbors over and they read them, and then I print them out and take them down to my local pub and we read them again. An then sometimes I take them with me on the train and when I see a bored looking stranger I have them read it.... Eiley - pull yourself together. You're acting like a child, and you're picking the wrong fight. Safe swoops Sangiro
