How does that compare to the distance for the same locations given in the Drop Zone Locator? (not the straight line! ) Safe swoops Sangiro

***Guess one is how the crow flies.*** Did you check the distance on the directions page as well? There's a not on the results page that the distance represents the "as the crow flies" distance... The driving distance is on the directions page. Safe swoops Sangiro

I'm not sure this is right... Safe swoops Sangiro

I found info for Skydive Atlanta and fixed that one. Please check this. Still looking for Skydive The Farm... Safe swoops Sangiro

Yes please! ICAO codes are good as I can try and look up your location but if you have exact lat/lng values (the more decimals the better) then give me those.
-
More granular please. Degrees, minutes and seconds or the location could be out by miles on a map.
-
Do you have a lat/lng for your DZ? Safe swoops Sangiro

Well, here's how it goes. We can only add a country if we have geocoding data avialable for that country. Currently we use data from ESRI and they only have geocoding data available for the following countires: United Sates, Canada, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland (Dublin only), Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. So, we'll go after these countries first while we look for alternative and additional sources of geocoding data. We're just starting though so it would not harm to start collecting latitude and longitude data for all DZs.

There will be a little reorganization in the near future. I appreciate the fact that this may be a sport unto itself for some people. There's also a large group of people to whom a wind tunnel isn't much more than a theme-park ride. I'm not focussed on them either. These folks are all welcome to share their experiences and thoughts here but in the context of this site I'm mostly focussed on tunnel discussions relating to skydiving training. To that extend, I think this belongs in a "training" category, which we don't have... just yet.

Heya all, I've added a Wind Tunnel forum to the Skydiving category. Please read the Welcome Message and help us keep this forum on topic and on track. The popularity of wind tunnels as a training tool and just a place to have some fun have been growing a lot over the last few years. New ones seem to pop up all over the place. We hope this will provide a topical discussion forum to talk about flying techniques and post tunnel reports. Have fun.

I know. That doesn't mean I agree with your statement that any site that does not work like DZ.com is a hack. That's a bit condescending. I think there's a difference between being able to scale or "degrade gracefully", and assuming any browser size. Slashdot uses a banner that will give you a horizontal scrollbar if you go under 800*600 - they assume you have at least that size, regardless of how they scale and degrade. Ebay has a fixed table width on it's home page - it assumes that size. It may scale or degrade well. Amazon has a 3 table structure like DZ.com that "breaks" under 800*600. It assumes you have that resolution at the minimum, it scales well up. I do understand the issues very well. I just don't agree with a "this is the only way to do it right" approach. I think there are best practices but I also think design should follow your users, audience and subject matter... and unfortunately also your budget. Design should not follow either the low-end limitations or the high-end possibilities of your available technology just for the sake of doing so. Just because the technology can do it doesn't mean you should. It's about the people. Other than that I think we're basically in agreement.

That's a pretty bold and somewhat condescending statement. I don't agree with it. There are as many ways to design web sites as there are to ways to paint a painting. All three the sites you listed that you were the webmaster of actually assumes a certain display resolution. Slashdot (your "good example") assumes a resolution of at least 800x600, which is why their banner ad is 729 in width. Ebay, Amazon, CNN, Yahoo, Google... all hacks by your definition. There are simple realities to confront when you buiild a site and in the end it has much less to do with what you can do with the technology than it has with what the user experiences. Build to meet the needs of as large an audience as possible. Except that it is virtually impossible to please everyone (there are just too many combinations) and that you actually have to make informed decisions and assumptions. If assuming a certain screen resolution works for your user experience and the target audience for your site then go for it. Understand who your users are and listen to them. Safe swoops Sangiro

Nope, certainly not. Looking at my log files there are people on the site right now with almost every major (and not so major) browser out there. Safe swoops Sangiro

The HOTTEST picture I've seen in a long while!
sangiro replied to AggieDave's topic in Speakers Corner
Hey Dave - it looks like someone already has her covered. (So to speak!) I loved the caption with that photo: "Knob Creek is a good place for a date. The couple shown above is a good example of the wholesome, traditionally-minded American gun owners." Who goes to Knob Creek... with a punk hair-do, pale skin and a gun!? Too funny!
