  1. Well I guess you are back at home Stacy, hope you didn't get tooo much rain on the way back. Once the downpour here in Sarasota was over, it was warm enough outside that we spent a late morning in the pool (87deg) and the hottub... felt good with the drizzle around us.... guess that much precipitation would have been a lot of snow if we lived 'up north'!! Did Galen get the birthday dinner at Daruma? They give a small cake for desert (take a blowing out the candles foto), and $10 off, and even a gift for the lady of the table...
  2. Happy Birthday fellow sarasota skyflier! Are you celebrating here or on the east side? Its a good day to stay in and enjoy those wines..... Marc
  3. Easy to say now.....you've just started skydiving and all is fun and exciting, but when you spend a few months hobbling around, have to take shower sitting down with a bag over your leg, get faint just trying to stand up cause the blood rushes down to your feet that were up in the air for weeks, then months later still wake up with that leg feeling like its a wooden pole until you jump in the hot tub to warm it up and get it moving....or have cervical surgery, or....more... No sane person would NOT ask this question while laying flat on their backs for days or weeks at a time. And it's not a decision that has to be made right away anyway. I promise you that next skydive will be as big as your first tandem....if you decide it was worth all the pain and hassle....
  4. this just doesn't want to load....and I have cable modem too? guess everyone on dz.com must be trying to access it?
  5. those were great! hey captain, must be a cloudy day a the dz???
  6. Here in Florida, I learned that a 'cowboy' is somewhat different. A friend moved down here from a farm community in Ohio, back when he was in High School. He had a tough time with the jocks and the greasers and the gangster cliques. One day he was invited to a party, where he rode a horse for the first time, a doobie put in his mouth, and he found his tribe.....they called themselves 'cowboys'
  7. I wish that were accurate. It is true, the upgrades do give more time, but the counter on the screen starts countdown at 2:00 not 2:50....and it is still rare for all 4 of us to get 7 go-arounds.... But it is still worth it. I agree with all Ron mentions above... PS I add Ron to the list of great tunnel coaches!
  8. what freaks me out....for the longest time I thot your real name was kramer too you will always be the 'real kramer' in my heart... marc
  9. I have to add to my fellow tunnel partner HeatherB's comments..by the way, Bucky, that does NOT look like you in your avatar....and when did you start playing guitar?? First off, don't calculate your $ spent at $600/60minutes....because of time exiting and entering the tunnel, 4 people usually get 25 go-arounds in an hour....around 6 two minute slots each....(Hint:Be first to start off and get an extra go-around) Also, true, the tunnel doesn't have the fragrances described above, but sometimes you walk out of there smelling like an eggroll or KFC chicken!....and a rainy day in the tunnel is an experience I don't recommend....... That said, being with a coach in the tunnel is awesome! Two minutes of carefree motion at a time, you can turn lots of points and make plenty of mistakes and still have time to get it right! and you can do things you might not be confident doing in freefall, the coach can help position you, or tap ya on the helmet when you lose eye contact...etc. And as mentioned above, the walls help you recognize your stability or lack of it as you do your moves. Saturday nite I had tunnel time (so many clothes on that my jumpsuit bearly fit, but I still could move around well!) and repeated a fun exercise a couple of rounds....the next day got in the air with my coach (Sally Hathaway from Team Synchronicity), and on the second jump nailed it down!! What a great feeling!! Team Sync will be doing a tunnel camp in march or april....Four great women skydivers....hmmm...the tunnel is truly a sensual experience on its own! And I always wear a BIG SMILE in there and laugh alot!! Bring lots of $$$$ you will get addicted! Marc
  10. Maybe the better question is: "How much do you SPEND on skydiving a year?"
  11. if you are in denver, then its still the 'mile high club'....
  12. We were in Granada for my birthday a few years back, very nice....and Sevilla is the greatest! But best to me were all the hill towns, white villages surrounded by fortress walls with great places to stay....ones near Portugal/Spain border from Sevilla. Loved Ronda, Arcos de La Fronteira, others in that area. By the way, Rick Steves has some good info in his book about Spain, I stayed in several of his suggestions and they were all reasonably priced and pleasant.....
  13. Hey it's a great day for skydiving here in Florida, but in case you folks around Deland are interested, all weekend there is an outdoor artshow in downtown Deland free to the public, and a friend of mine is playing classical guitar there. Russell Donnellon is very well known in guitar circles, he played at Montreal Jazz Fest a few months back and in Manhattan at an all day Guitar Masters show joining Andy Summers and other greats. His CDs have blues, flamenco, classical and jazz guitar styles, even versions of music by radiohead and wailers and others. He is playing all day long both Saturday and Sunday. Stop by and say hi, and enjoy some quality guitar music. Marc

    WWBD?

hehe, I thought you were asking 'what would BUDDHA do?'
  15. I grew up just a few blocks from them and never knew about them till I started skydiving and saw their huge ads in parachutist.... Good luck on your phone call, but definitely call your CC to cancel. marc
  16. Check out the satire fictional account of Dr Kellogg in "the road to wellville" by T. Coraghessan Boyle. It was hilarious! The movie was bizarre, with Anthony Hopkins playing the Dr and Matt Broderick and Briget Fonda but then again, so is the book.
  17. hey are you saving up that $ for biplane jumps?
  18. snow brush?? hehehe I tossed mine out 10 years ago when I left Illinois for FLORIDA! I just saw weather channel, Lots of snow from Rockies heading towards your house, better put that snow brush on your front seat!! I have a bunch of parachutist mags in the back seat....not sure how much junk in the trunk, but for sure there's SUNSCREEN for a nice winter day at zhills!! 19. now this thread just got kicked up a notch on the hot scale pro american or anti american is a very poor binary choice in a multiple-choice filled country. I am pro human, although the way humanity has misbehaved throughout known history makes me wonder if I'm the same homo 'sapiens' clan as most. (being skydiving tribe makes me feel closer to the bird clan sometimes) Whenever and where ever I have traveled, when asked where I come from, my first reply is 'I'm from Planet Earth.' There's a number of countries that consider themselves 'Americans'. They don't understand why we think we(USA) are "THE AMERICANS"...
  20. Guns Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond....I thought it would be boring but I breezed through it... It starts with questions like 'why didn't the Incas invade Spain, rather than the other way around?', 'How do the european cultures have more technologies than the Maori?' 'Why are some cultures still stone age when others go to the moon?'....it does NOT look at it racially....rather it looks at how some areas were geographically better for civilization to grow....The culture in Australia was once more advanced than European ones for the time, and actually Devolved and used less technologies than they first had....etc pretty interesting perspective on how we got to where we are today... marc
  21. man, I don't even want to think about you jraf 'loosing your powers....in your hair!!!! eww!....whatever those powers may be..... or do you mean 'losing your powers???' sounds like all that wine would have taken care of that part....
  22. another good zinger! I went to the early bird cheaper matinee, and saw 2 flicks that day, so I can't really complain about tix prices.... By the way, any one seen 'lost in translation' ??? following the camera through nite time Tokyo is a real life stepping into the matrix....is it really on this planet??
  23. http://www.wired.com/news/print/0,1294,61239,00.html hmmm....I think I know some folks who must be in this research group....4:20 club, any comments?? mp
  24. How were you able to sit down on that raw ass to type such a long story??? Even scarier, Alysse confirms that you have a hairy ass...that upset me a bit how would she know??? But then she reminded me of one time at Janine's you were your usual slivovitzed up self....I must have mercifully been outside smoking or in the can so I missed the awful sight.... marc
