It rained Sunday nite, but beyond winds, my part of Sarasota didn't even get any rain after daylight. But we haven't had electricity since 4am monday morning! When I went for a walk around the neighborhood after dark last nite, I discovered that everyone in the area had lights except 6 homes including mine! Hmm....what is that all about? So we went to Barnes and Noble and hung out there till it closed.....Caught up on the latest magazines.... Good excuse to eat up all the icecream and goodies in the freezer though! At least I have my gas camping cookset, everything else in the house is electric powered. Don't have internet, the modem needs power, so here I am at the local bookstore checking emails and DZ.com. I just read the last posts to Alysse.... She replied to everyone 'Thanks for your thoughts...We are just hunkering down'.....(with her Brazilian accent) She learned that phrase (hunkering down) after Hurricane Charlie....it was a new addition to her vocabulary. There are no hurricanes in Brazil, amazingly enough with all that coastline!!! marc

We rented a bunch of DVDs...as long as we have electricity we have internet too!!! We're going to watch 'the gypsy moths'! But yeah, we are watching hurricane info on TV from time to time. Our fearless leader Gov Jeb Bush just got on the air reminding everyone with newly purchased generators NOT to keep them running indoors! Duh....

You're going to work tomorrow? As of now, this will hit mainland around 6am-9am.....Here in Sarasota County they are not expecting any storm surge, and not much rain, but winds will gust past 40-60mph, enough to knock down large trees (around here they have small root systems)....So my guess is you will feel the results up there too... As we learned last year, you never can really guess where the final track will hit. Thanks everyone for your concerns about us!! We were invited to pass the storm in Orlando, but we are staying at home. I am more worried about water leaks in my old house than anything else. We put the patio furniture in the pool, and brought in garbage cans and other small potential flying objects. If it was a stronger storm, we certainly would head out. Although for Charlie last year, which was predicted to hit Sarasota, it ended up entering mainland south of us, and cut right up the middle of FL, taking out Lake Wales and parts of Orlando. So you never can predict the wiles and fury of Mother Nature.... I am much more concerned about the safety of Bucky's family and their neighbors in the Yucatan. Wilma was supposed to hit and move on to us by last nite. Instead, Wilma stayed over Mexico hitting it hard for an extra day. Once again, thanks for thinking of us. And stay dry everyone! PS- We sure were surprised that they were skydiving yesterday at zhills! By the time we found out, we would have gotten there late. I guess the Otters will remain there, riding out the weather???

I can't answer for 100% italian, but my fav place these days in orlando is McCormack and Schmidts. They are in Millenium Mall. It is an upscale seafood chain, really nice atmosphere and great food! And they have a variety of pasta dishes. I am sure they have an online menu to check out.... I will ask JRAF for his pick. He is a gourmand of fine Orlando dining.... PS dont forget to visit the tunnel and ZHILLS too! That's romantic too! marc

saw it last nite with original sound and subtitles. it was silly and fun. the making of movie feature showed just how much work went into it all....costumes, fight coreography and stunts, building the 1930s sets etc...lots of work for a comedy. At first I thot this was posted by JRAF. He just had a close encounter with spiders of the nasty kind.....Florida has some awful ones!!! Benedryl helped the itching, but not the venom already in the bloodstream! Nathan, are you kidding us? Do a search, there are a thousand threads about this movie and other similarly realistic skydiving movies. they had to film that freefall scene on the planet mars, so they could have a 4 minute free fall. that's why everything around the scenery is so dry and reddish! Weather is usually pretty good in Fall, once the hurricane season ends!!! Last weekend had some squirrely winds and some sprinkles, not the best for skydiving. This weekend may get weather holds throughout....oh well...you never know.....and Never trust the weather reports! Bring a costume for the halloween party!
