Tandem Instructor Poll: Landing Approach
skydiverjerry replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
i wanted to select two of the vote options, anyway i think bodypilot and rigger rob have it nailed thats exactly what i do, no radical turns, strait in and smooth nice ride at the top if they like to do 360s if not s ok safe flared landing continually talking to my GUEST i fly the landing just get your legs uo RUN WALK SIT or STAND IS THE FINAL WORD. safe ride, nice jump NEXT PLEASE!. TANDEMS ARE THERE AS an intro to skydiving, a training tool or a fun day out! not a taxi ride be safe keep oi simple, stay alert stay alive. adjust yourself to the wind, and read the student for a safe landing be smooth. just my mind set. blue skies life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!. -
it was not my intent to create the theory that DZO's are evil, far from it DZ owners provide us as instructors with a living (kind of) and we live in times were if you dont make sufficient capital to sustain the operation then you close. i know it happens i to have been in situations were dzo has asked us to take the load when we know it was not the best conditions (be it gear weather or what ever) some times its a subtle hint from them like just saying they will take the load or pushing the call. we should be honest about this, it happens.

Anyone else ever catch a bird in their canopy?
skydiverjerry replied to ManBird's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
was doing stand of jump a few years ago at about 7 k (as i remember) some canada geese joined up on me, the hole thing lasted about 20 seconds one of those times i wish i had my camera with me. amazing feeling life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!. -
can you use the sigma harness on the racer tandem? perhaps bill would be kind enough to reply? if so how would the fitting differ if any? if not why not? i have used the sigma harness and love it for students! blue skies life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

hi guys, this question if for instructors only please, do all you instructors out there have an opinion as to whether DZO'S ever put money ahead of safety? please note that i'm not trolling

hay dud, sounds to me like you did good, 1 you were aware that your student had a mal (you would be amazed at how many instructors dont see that when it happens, 2, you could see that the guy was ok and could land on the dz. 3, you landed and retrieved an expensive piece of equipment. 4, you are still conserned for yoiur student and the quality of experience you can give him. good for you, now to a suggestion, next time talk to the student at the first oppertunity (explain to them that what you did and what they should do (following the gear) are two diffrent things) as long as you do debrief them you will give them good instruction. it sounds to me like you got your shit together, as long as you can land safe and your students safe your doing good. blue skies and well done. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

at 5'2 i am small, i work quit often out of Cessnas and islanders, as an i.e. i tell other ti its not the size but the method you use, even at my size i find a cessna tight to jump from but with the correct method for me it is not a problem, its just a matter of finding the best way to exit for your size. i think if you adopt the best technique anybody can tandem. anyway back to the question whats the best size? well the ti's body should be wide enough to fit between the seat and door, short enough to allow another tandem to sit in front, and the legs should reach the floor when you sit on the toilet

QuoteA good point - but who's to say they are not going to grab your hands when you are using your arms to fly, had the sh##@ scared out of me last weekend, ofter over 1000 tandems student grabed my hands on opening! got lazy for just one second!!! moral never take your mind of the job. one more point there is a point at wich the ride is over, 5500 or 9500 if it dont feel good open expierience will come in time, congrats mate on your tm rating life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

this debate has been going on for a while now, as a tandemmaster and a camera man i can see both sides of the argument. as a tandem master who has to do handy cam sometimes i dont like it, i dont like having to bring in another element into the skydive, but the dzo asks us to do it so i will use a handycam, but! first is safty so i will do my handle checks! and i will pull left with the handy on and its then a simple job to edit that out. ps i pull left or right but like to make a point somtimes! childish sure but if i have a mal with the handy on i need to know that i can do it. as a camera man (dont get to do so much of that these days) i agrea that the footage i get is way better than handy cam footage (just my oppinion) and by selling a cd full of photo,s i earn a little extra cash. blue skies life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

hi there, yep this is a big problem, dvds made in pal format will not work in dvd machines in ntsc (usa) but you can make them in ntsc, just remember you will not be able to watch them on a pal dvd player. on the other hand you could by an ntsc dvd recorder and a pal recorder then use setup to output in ntsc to the ntsc dvd recorder, option two buy a vcr converter make your dvd in pal then a casset in ntsc. depends on how much mony you want to spend blue skies life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
