  1. we have a twin otter and two pilots fly it now this weekend we had a bum spot about 5km out! the uppers were at 60knts and ground wind 7knts. the pilot admits that he made a mistake at the same time the co pilot says that he knew were we were but was scared of saying anything. the pilot refuses to change his sops, i now see two choices fire the pilot or introduce / force them to follow the fars. my question is, were does it say in FAR that the twin otter can be flown with one pilot? i have another pilot availible but he will not fly with the two that we use (personality clashes) i once read a recomendation that co pilots fly the plane while the pilot supervises done a google search but cant find it, this is probably best answered by a pilot, any help would be gratefull. blue skies life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  2. bag lock. on both main and reserve the pilot chute / spring loaded is out and fully/partialy inflated indusing some drag. the deployment bag / free bag is out and lines are extracted partialy and possibly as far as the final center locking stows. the parachute itself has not been extracted from the bag. the risers may or may not have been moved from the stowed position. with main bag lock since the risers are still attached to the harness by the single point, (3 ring) system the parachutist will feel slight deceleration. pulling the single point release (cutaway pad ) releases the risers and hense the crap above your head. now as i understand it the skyhook works as would an RSL. that is the risers fly away as you desend pulling the skyhook / RSL webing and extracting the pin. remember you still need to pull right then left. with reserve bag lock the skyhook/ rsl has already done its job and pays no part in the deplyment once the springloaded pilot chute is out i cant see how in a bag lock situation an rsl or skyhook would be a factor in the main deployment and resulting bag lock. it is important to arch hard after a bag lock as the reserve also likes a stable platform to deploy from anything i have said wrong please coment guys. . life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

  6. off topic but i instist that all of my gear up people use the following line i am going to tighten up adgust the haness, now if you are uncomfortable with anything i am doing tell me and we will find a diffrent way of doing it. this is somthing i insist on. it makes the customer happy prevents silly law suits from silly people and and the way a gentleman treats people. you can re fraze it (slap me and ill find sombody else to harness you) or (give me a punch and we can find another way of doing it) you just have to talk to them and tell them what you are doing and you will have no problems. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

  10. 1. Adj. slang. A word So Commonly used in place of "more stupid" referring to someone stupide, as being more stupid also stupid could compare to retarded is."The phrase 'more stupid' takes more time to write out and is much Stupider then just writing 'Stupider'." describes me as well
  11. just a theory but A herd of skydivers can only move as fast as the slowest skydiver. And when the herd is skydiving, it is the slowest and weakest or dumbest that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest skydiver. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. conclusion that is why you always feel smarter after a few beers." Dumb or stupider skydivers are good for the sport. Its not an accident it’s the Darwin system at work. Actively help accidents along this will make skydiving safer for the survivors (if any) We should encourage dumb skydivers to do dumb things. Drink beer before you skydive it will make you smarter. feel free to move it now. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  12. i have been around for a while on dzs and seen the aftermath of the things we do wrong and only once have i had anything to say bad about medics doctors or police who are there to help clear the landing area so we can resume dancing. once i had to fisicaly restrain an over eger fire man who wanted to help move a student, and a few times the same for over eager skydivers but for the rest they have always been proffesional. respect to all of them
  13. and you just did your tandem instructor as well! congrats life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  14. Because From the way you guys talk. I Find it REALLY Hard to believe that Student Skydiving was all that FUN and Sure as hell could not have been safe being a Student Skydiver back then.... You must of had a lot of Complaining to do to ? ------------------------------------------- sure we complained about the wind the weather the gear and stuff. but i think that we walked into skydiving with our eyes open, new the risks and the hurts we could and did get. and accepted them. it was our choice to skydive, with less choices in the way of gear or drop zones you did what you had to do to skydive. there was less comunication in those days as well, like no internet cell fones et. so we got on with skydiving and if people could not handle the heat they got out of the fire or stayed and tried to make it better ,safer, or more fun for the next person and at the same time try not to get hurt to much. skydiving is skydiving now because of those that stayed the course we should respect them for that and help them now when the sport has changed. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  15. stop skydiving just for the winter NO WAY. i would have a nervouse breakdown. here we jump all year round life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  16. well said bill. lets end this thread on a positive note, a skydiver asked a question and it was answered by lots of people with differing points of view. it is now up to that person to make a desicion based on the advice here and his own personal experience in life. non of use has the right to force him to accept what he has seen as acceptable nor do we have the right to force him to take our advice. a forum is a place to offer help, provide advice listen / read learn and enjoy. if we can not speak in a civil manner to our skydive brethren here then this sight will not have much of a future. debate and discusion only works with the right of free speach in a civil environment. lets try to remember that.
  17. hi there every thing on dz.com is theory as we dont know the name of the drop zone or the dzo. that is why it is pointless to post annon life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  18. i have read all the posts about three times, now if all that is said is true and you stand by your word and all are facts not just ax grinding then you should not be ashamed of your identity or the identity of the drop zone. you have a moral responcibility to promote safe practice and ensure that those around you are not placed in unnessesary danger. you have several opptions. report the facts to uspa. if this does not bring about improvments in safety as you see it. have photographic evidense to make your case. report the facts to FAA. if this does not bring about improvments in safety as you see it. your very last opption is dangerus but you could use the media, one more choice you have is to inform the dzo of your plan, send it in writing and invite him to sit and talk about it. he may ban you from the dz but you may make him change his opperational practices. just a thought here though skydiving allready suffers from bad press every time there is a fatality, we are allready acused of not policing the sport, choose wisly dont be political or unjust, if you use the facts and only the facts you will help make the sport and your home dz safer. good luck.
  19. good points and good question. i think even instructors can open mouth before engajing brain on occasions, the best way to help in these situations is to talk to said instructor at that moment and in private, this will prevent embarasment and animosity building up. a calm relaxed conversation and disccusion could help both instructors and students, ask that instructor to then correct his original statment or ask if you could approach the student to do it for him, again without causing animosity or embarisment, if this does not work approach the DZO, STA, OR CCI Safety is the responcibility of everybody so you should not feel bad about doing this. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  20. you make a good point for instructors not dating the students. one i strongly agee with even though i am single [;) did the student release the brakes on the reserve, how did you get the video? if the facts are as stated ie the instructore was told not to teach his girlfriend yet still went ahead is there some form of disciplinary action pending? this thread may belong in the instructors forum so that junior instructors can understand the importance of using the right gear, proffesional approach to instruction et. we as instructors can not allow ourselves to be placed in a position were our relationships can cause us to become distracted from the task of teaching students and providing them with survival skills. one point here though the instructor must have done something right if the student did her reserve drills correctly life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  21. how about this. an instructors first and formost responsability is for the safety and controled learning of his student. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.

  23. > in this case skydivers who want to do both are forced to choose Exactly. And that's a lot better than having no choices. sorry but i must be stupid cos i want to do both and would pay money to do both now i have to go with the guys who are organising the boogy there for i cant go to the boyz training camp life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  24. , but the Israeli federation is run by people from the one drop zone so in effect they make decisions based on favoritism, with no logic whey sponsor an event at one drop zone that we skydivers are working real hard to be successful and at the same time at the other dz sponsor another event? We have to choose which to go to when it would make more sense since there are only two drop zones anyway to have one event one month and then one event the next, These events are for skydivers not for the money generating tandem aff or iad courses So while your argument is true in a normal sense in this case skydivers who want to do both are forced to choose life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
  25. I really am fed up with this crap in skydiving, I just heard that the Israeli skydiving federation is bringing over some real good free fly coaches sounds good yea (18 to 25 oct)? Well at the same time as they are doing this they are also organizing a boogie good yea Crap the free fly coaches who are being paid a ticket to come will actually be at another DZ so we have a choice go to the boogy or get some coaching from the best free flyers in the states and its pure undiluted political bull shit, Why not wait for a few weeks until the boogy is over and we have a few bucks again. There are only two drop zones in Israel so I will not stoop to pointing names, but if I was xxxxxxx bxxz (name deleted ) I would say screw it. I vote less politics and more skydiving. Altitude not attitude. life is a journey not to arrive at the grave in a pristine condition but to skid in sideways kicking and screaming, shouting "fuck me what a ride!.
