I think it's sad that you've pigeon-holed Jerry as a "righty". Or even that it matters compared to the substance of his statements. Political positions are scarily insubstantial and subjective. Why on earth would one consider they'd correlate to direct observations? All he does it talk about personal responsibility and calls situations as he sees them. Those two things shouldn't be a political bias. You think you're super 'left'. Why does the label matter? Why is it scary to agree with someone that's making pretty clear political comparisons? ... 3. This is old news and normal for a certain percentage of jumpers since the sport began. it's a good observation - youngsters with big egos and little skill might just try to go from zero to hero way too fast - and then suck at everything they try. When they realize they suck, instead of working hard at it, they just belittle the discipline (because it can't be 'their' fault, it must be the discipline) and move to the 'next' thing. Eventually you can find a discipline that's so new, even sucking at it puts you in the top 10%. I like when jumpers mix it up and learn a lot of different disciplines. As long as they understand the true learning curve of all these things and devote the time and training necessary to it right. ... 5. since the thread, I'm assuming despite the various drift, is about the bias of the media and the inconsistency of groups of a specific social/political agenda.... if you truly believe the 911 tape from the TM/GZ altercation wasn't edited deliberately for the social/sales/other impact then your positions are perfectly consistent. If so, I'll also say you are full of it. I wonder how many other people really believe the news media were innocent (or so completely incompetent in doing the job they do daily) of having any agenda in their editorial cuts of the 911 tapes? I'm with Kallend's statement - people try to do the best they can with what they have. Jerks are jerks, criminals are criminals, and they come from all walks of life. I doubt race plays a part in very much lately .... except where people have been indoctrinated to force it as an issue. Then it becomes everything to them - and it's insane to the rest of us - especially when you see some of the logical gymnastics people take to make it so. Still, I would like to see some consistency in reporting at a minimum. ... and, everyone will be for it, agree with it, other countries will support it. until later - when they'll all deny they were for it and the other party leverages the denials for political advantage that's just one scenario - but I doubt it would ever materialize ... 11. this ^ and the vetting process is great - where Senators and Congressmen tell the candidates that they 'make the law' and they ask the candidates what their personal opinions on partisan topics are to see if they pass their 'litmus' tests rather than probe the candidates about their ability to set aside those opinions in lieu of objectivity objectivity has no actual reality in the vetting process at all - we can maybe thank FDR for that luckily we got objective judges so far from our current leader to show the way ... 13. Absolutely - the real debates are after the nominees. The stuff within the parties is just a pile of who can pander to the ridiculous fringies of both parties. That's why, when it comes down to the real debates, we have caricatures that pretend to be centrist. Even though we all know neither party will nominate anyone that isn't on their own fringes. I'd rather just watch regular programming. I can pick the lesser of the two evils a few months later. ... 14. I'm glad I opened the link: I assumed this was about the biased moderation during the debates from those stations. But it's actually about the biographical mini-series. I understand the first point, but I don't really see a problem about the second one. As long as the Hillary biography is as flattering as that movie "W". Then everyone can be happy. ... 17. you'd have been the last guy I'd have thought to use a government acknowledgement and PR event to rationalize human emotions onto a dog. Dogs are brave because they are wired that way. I think they are fantastic. But pets humans. I'm not putting them down so much as acknowledging reality. Most of the time (like 90%+) I'd rather be around dogs than people, frankly. - it's cute when we anthropomorphize pets, wildlife, guns, etc with human traits. I think my hammer has two medals. 18. That's entirley reasonable. Every summer there are several stories of animals and children being left in cars. I would like to see the person responsible put into the car foe a while. It can reach 120, maybe more inside a closed car. I hate it when people or animals are hurt by the stupidity of others so I may not be entirely reasonable. I really like the contrast of these two posts. - one is very touchy/feely and left wingy like - the other is very eye-for-an-eye biblical and kinda religious righty like it's why we have laws and process instead of letting emotional outrage drive our laws (or at least we are supposed to) ... Whether he's tore up, or thinks it's funny, or just numb about it. Apply the law exactly like you would to anyone else. Directly, fairly, and without any emotional bias. ... This is what happens when green energy is denied to Libertarian gay bullies on food stamps. you take away their guns and suddenly everyone is required to use an AAD and treat USPA Coaches like they know anything. 23. that poor cop, I bet he's tore up over this - those cops get REALLY attached to their K9's. The responsible thing to do is reassign him from that group as a minimum. Clearly he screwed up royally this isn't purposeful cruelty, but it is neglect -I'm sure there's a law there and appropriate punishment for neglect. How on earth would did you come up with the question about 'considered a person or an animal'? It's a dog, it's not a person. You city people really confuse me at times. Frankly, it's not a police officer either, it's a tool used by police. That said, I think the penalties for 'neglect' like this should be pretty heavy, care/responsibility of an animal is a big freakin deal. ...
