what's your point? Do you contend that it's ok to rationalize wasteful spending in one area because some other area is 'doing it too?' Last time I checked, both parties have people in congress where both these spending items get approved Or is it the lame old "well, I'd RATHER they waste money over here instead of this example" that is the purity and absurdity of the partisan nature of political debate today. "Hey, we're stupid and irresponsible, but less so than the other guys. So call us gods and give us all your money" All the while, both parties spend on everything they can to garner votes and support. it is stupid and wasteful - they need to stop spending on everything. It's not a matter of spend one place vs spend on the other place. ... well, it could be a 'he'....not that there's anything wrong with that I believe it was meant to draw attention to the lack of "They". no.....read the phrasing of the quote "a civilian crime analyst detailed trysts with the men in police and fire stations, patrol cars, motels and even in a parking lot after a memorial service for a slain officer." it's funny if it's read that the analyst was the participant in all the 'trysts' I'll keep trying.....futilely ... Gays can’t have families of their own. That’s facts at least they will need a donor ofr something. Can they call it a family yes so can adopted kids. I know you can adopt and that’s your kid but in reality and in genetic terms it’s not. For woman: would it be wrong to say woman should not fly a high stress flight when they going trough PMS? Disregard this.. I found it out. The things that fit over the tips of your shoes, presumably making your legs a little more streamlined. Though this is off-topic, I'll note briefly that the point of booties is in fact just the opposite -- they give you more surface area, which means more power in your legs. thanks - seriously MORE POWER NorrinR - Imagine a sail boat with no sail up and just a mast with a hankie at the tip. I find the need for a lot of leg surface area to work with to be essential on any flat video. In this case, bootie pants are a great tool to have. Obviously, my wife (Skimmer) makes them, but I'm sure whereever you pick up a pair, you'll like them - all these vendors on this thread are good builders. Blues. ... Tandem masters mostly have bought the bootie pants with very positive feedback. Seems to also be a decent idea to match up with a camera jacket (especially for tandem video). For that matter, I'm a fan of booties on camera suits anyway - nice to have the extra power in the legs to offset the wings. ... oh....16 hours is magical certainly an experienced owner and user with a history of safe use will need 16 hours of training just like someone buying and shooting for the first time what a crock Well, the vast majority of the classes are about rules and regulations, when to shoot, when not to shoot. What to and not to say in the event of a DGU. Where you can and cannot be armed. Reading through the Zimmerman shooting threads, I see a lot of people who really don't understand what the laws on self defense actually say or what kind of behavior has been found to not be self defense in a court of law. Actual gun handling skills are secondary to that. Teaching a newcomer how to safely handle a gun can be properly done fairly quickly. Developing safe habits takes a while, but that's not something that can be taught. And shooting well enough to qualify isn't that big of a deal. Shooting well (like developing safe handling habits) is far more a "practice" thing than a "teaching" thing. I can teach the fundamentals of safe gun handling and basic pistol marksmanship in a class that is well under 16 hours. But the shooter will have to practice a lot more than that to actually become proficient. I think you are backing up my point - 'requiring' a lengthy course makes it time consuming and expensive. It's an artificial barrier designed to discourage. Competency and knowledge can be validated easily and quickly for those that have it already. Of course, those who will be authorized to teach that 16 hour course are happy as they now have government backing that directly gets them business they can charge all they want to provide. ... YAY - welcome to libertarianism. I'm sure you'll be soon advocating for shutting down Planned Parenthood. Shutting down NPR. Greatly reducing Military spending, gutting social welfare and entitlements, canceling subsidizing big oil, and green energy initiatives. Or paying for other peoples' kids' food, housing or schooling. congratulations - two basic principles 1 - everything has to be paid for, there is nothing 'free' 2 - Your right to do what you want ends when you demand other people pay for it. I agree with him, too. But given a choice between ...... sigh - well, there we have it - apparently, we MUST choose between two completely bloated applications - either of which will destroy our economy. and that's why we'll be broke no matter which programs get 'chosen' I choose neither - I don't care how well it's sold, I don't care how great, or devious, the motivation and rationalization we construct. If we can't pay for it, then the population needs to grow up and realize they can't have it. Or, we can have "Compromise" - which always results in us executing on BOTH completely unaffordable programs - just tax more and borrow more..... Yup....and your health care program is already broke and is going the wrong way - How's all that going to work out for us? ... there are absolutely no, non-political, reasons to try to make it a choice as long as people treat it like and "either/or" choice, vs just down costing both under the same philosophy of fiscal responsibility, we'll never get either group under control there should be zero 'sacred cows' in the budget. zero ... it's not about harm or cost - striking it down is about equality of treatment - anyone that wants to pair up should be allowed to as long as there is such a category. There's always a cost - that's easy and saying there isn't a cost for every government decision is a bit silly. Though I'd level the field by just plain deleting the gov from entire concept, not by adding even more people to what's unfair to singles..... here's some math...... -Say we had a population of 100 people. 60 of them get to have cupcakes for dessert that the other 40 didn't. so 100 people are paying for 60 cupcakes even though only 60 get them. right there it's unfair Now, we have 10 more that are in the group. now we have to pay for 70 cupcakes instead of 60 - everybody pays a bit more for the extra 10 cupcakes also - those 30 that still don't get cupcakes have to pay an even bigger share than before. So, a bit more fair for the new 10 even more unfair for the remaining 30 Making the big group add the other 10 was the right thing to do for the 10. Though the "more right" thing to do for EVERYONE would have been to stop giving the original 60 people cupcakes that no one else was allowed at first. It would have pissed off the original 60, but they got favored treatment they shouldn't have anyway, so it was a good ride. People should be able to pair up or not all they want and the government should pretty much ignore it completely. ] "But,,, marriage is about kids" - Bull. To give benefits to a situation that might, maybe, possibly result in offspring, maybe, if they want to.....very indirect and inefficient.........If any person or couple, etc actually HAVE or adopt a kid, then let some very specific benefits accrue at that time. That's direct, that's tied to child raising. not some inferred arrangement better yet, forget that too - if a couple people want kids - go for it. and stop making everyone pay for that too there.....digressed enough? ... GM - I'm an advocate for a strong defense and agree with your position. HOWEVER, there's a big difference between a "strong" defense, and a ridiculously bloated defense used to underpin entire redundant industries and keep towns and regions and districts of foreign countries alive by injecting military welfare funds into the voting districts. It's just as bad as the analogous programs of the left - too much and for the wrong reasons..... ... disagree - "generally" I don't believe them when they state what they "want" us to believe. In Practice, both seem to just end up increasing the size of all programs. that's what's broken ...
