  1. why bother? - I compose a fun and stereotype filled rant about both liberals and conservatives, and even how the 'usuals' here wallow in them and what get's leveraged from that amazing work of prose? The resident PhD grabs onto the most childish item of the list, which was just tacked on for the heck of it, and IT is what is nested into the tasty 12 layered quote tree. Perhaps his memory is restricted to just the last 4 (I'll give credit for the period) words read in a post while the rest are instantly forgotten in a fog of soy based digestive action and imported wine spritzers. I don't know.... It's like taking a reading of War and Peace, and then only commenting that the nachos served on the table are a bit stale. Of course, what would expect from a typical liberal. ... 7. My position is simple - 1 - Adding safety margin is not a bad goal. But the one required item to address if horizontal drift - without that, all this other stuff is a bit moot. 2 - Large before small has no rationalization and offers some options we may (or may not) choose to exploit. Your argument is basically - people are stupid and or lazy so let's keep it simple. I'll put the arbitrary step #2 in there just keep the guys from arguing about exit order. (Frankly, I'm ok with that . It's more true than not. Have a good weekend) other etc stuff - absolutely, only for the first group out, only belly if there are mixed disciplines on the load - so why not? (two 4ways, first all on specks, 2nd all on boats - flip a coin?) this is moot - it's already a given that we NEVER neglect drift for these other considerations I already addressed that - you see who has what, and if it doesn't make sense, you don't change it, if it does, you consider it. It's not rocket science. I already mentioned this is moot. This statement applies regardless of exit order. ... 8. now that is exactly a good thought process and another way to address it - "Hey pilot, long climbout, can you green light short an extra 3 tenths?" what do you think about putting a tiny-way between two big groups to further separate the big groups from each other (in freefall, during opening, and in traffic)? (we've already talked to that. But for the crowd) ... 9. Agreed. There's no evidence to suggest the principal is a liberal or that politics played any role at all in the student's audio being cut. I suspect the implied message is that a Liberal mindset, even when not political, is one that is in favor of harsh control of free speech. (thus the principal, whether he calls himself liberal or not, is still demonstrating Liberal values by being a spiteful censor. Perhaps he also enjoys the use of a censer as well - you never can tell with Liberals.) You may counter that the student is petulant and imply that not meeting a contracted agreement is a Conservative mindset (possibly he earlier stated that contracts are morally important - you never can tell with Conservatives - perhaps Funjumper can fill us in on it). Kallend could even cry out "hypocrisy" in an unrelated fashion and note that a liberal breaking a contract is fine since they don't care, but since conservatives make such a big deal about them, then that matters. Since everyone is wallowing in stereotypes today. Stupid fat Americans ... 10. no,no, you obviously mis-understood his comment. Clearly rape is a direct result of being an American and having an American culture (odd statement really since it's a multitude of cultures). You can tell, because it only happens in America. (However, I am in complete support of his proposal to allow more boobies on TV, and, frankly, anywhere else. Provided they are nice ones - I'll be the judge of it. However, since 100% of Americans are fat, I suspect that allowance would backfire pretty bad.) Those damn Americans. ... 12. The 12-way. Canopy size doesn't give you ANY sort of exit priority. If your canopy is so small that it requires messing around with exit orders, then you should be on a dedicated pass. You have no rationalization here. IF, all other things are equal (i.e., freefall drift is prioritized), why not consider other spacing factors? We're talking adding additional safety margin when the opportunity presents itself. I didn't say the smaller canopies "Required" a different order, I offered the chance to take advantage of it. Get down, get out of the way. (Frankly, I think it's a moot point (I ask because I want to see how people think, or if they think), typically both groups will have a mix of fast and slow canopies.....I do think the climbout time of a big group should be considered) Wendy's note has a reason - the bigger formations tend to fall a bit slower (still likely within the normal error range of any belly), maybe not observable in terms of drift, but it's a thought. Here's another thought - the 12 way likely has about a 20 second climbout at best Here's another way to think on it - Simplify it - they are both 4 ways. Do we flip a coin? or is there some other condition that might make sense for adding safety? Nothing I've offered here will make things worse (in terms of drift - our PRIMARY consideration) if time between exits is done right. However, everything offered does provide a bit more margin if things aren't done perfect. ... 13. IF all the groups are doing the same type of fall rate - All are flat, or all are FF - then group size really shouldn't matter - 2ndary considerations can take effect. I don't really think Biggest to smallest is the panacea - it's blindly followed just like the old 45 degree rule. I'd much rather slip a 2 way between two 8 ways instead of sending out the 8ways next to each other. It makes perfect sense to minimize traffic and the potential for interfering trackers.... For that matter - I'd rather send a solo or 2way (no climbout time) out right on green before the 12way also. with the 20+ second climbout of the 12way, it didn't hurt to get one group out immediately with no penalty (they both have the same drift). ... 14. True. But the tunnel time is only concerned with learning AFFI in-air skills. Everything else has nothing to do with the tunnel training. Those are all USPA course problems. Thank you for this comment. I write so much, that I can hide what I think is the essence of what I'm seeing. I hope my position is clear - I think Derek's proposal 'raises' the bar for skill level. And only skill level. I still think something is missed. But it's a lot more than just the minimum freefall time requirement. ... What I take from this is one of two things: 1 - real estate agents have some odd biases or; 2 - relatively speaking, whites aren't very good at defining what they need so they get spammed with a lot more showings of course, this is based on my personal bias that real estate agents really don't care who they take their commissions from - and that they are terrible drivers ... 21. Do you know what the term 'conservative' means? 23. I would love to see this as a poll. But the poll should absolutely have a way to compare the response vs the amount of 'focused RW tunnel training' that the responder has. Even though I'd rather have the requirement added. Not replaced, there are some misconceptions indicated by the short/flip answers here: IMHO - from reading this thread: There's a huge disconnect here about the proposal vs what people are upset about. --- the proposal is about a very effective skills (only) training option. --- the gripe is about current levels of experience, skill, and aptitude already being seen as too low. > these are different items. And the proposal actually raises the bar to help address one of the three issues reflected by the gripes...... 1 - I think the proposal needs to be very clear to responders here - in the realm of experience/suitability/skill - IMO - it addresses just one item only "skill" - by offering a better option to random jumps, with something a lot more focused that directly targets AFFI skills, it's not just about someone bouncing around in the tunnel with no plan. I'm not sure why anyone can complain about raising the skill levels of candidates. Or call it a 'stupid idea'... Now how to do that without impacting the other gripes (experience and suitability). The "inference" is that it takes away from the 'experience' issue. (I won't get into suitability - that would fixed by a referral requirement). 2 - - we need better experience and suitability requirements for the instructor rating. Time in sport would be a better and more direct requirement to clear up or make even tighter. Jumps and freefall time are ok... I guess, I'd like to see even more. I think the Coach rating is intended to do that, but then we need it done as intended, is that the case? But I'd suggest we try to address that more directly. What do we really want from our candidates - (number of unintentional reserve rides, years of experience, currency requirements, a referral from someone of extreme responsibility in the sport, drug tests, what? years and hours are a bit vague, but they do indicate a desire for someone that's survived long enough to indicate they aren't a dumbass) as far as flying skills only - here's the key, "all other things being equal" (((that means provided they got a significant amount of experience some other way)), I trade 15 minutes of focused tunnel training over an hour of actual unfocused/randomly used freefall time - (FWIW - based on being a decent AFFI, coach and advanced skills coach, and also having taken and conducted skills camps in the tunnel) digression - If you haven't taken a training camp (100 jumps or 10,000 jumps) in a tunnel, you just don't know how strong the learning ramp is. it's hard to assess the proposal. But I'd say, figure out what we really want from the AFFI requirements, and makes sure it's not something totally different than from this proposal before the knee jerk response ... 25. 1 - Obama is Clearly "Bush on Steroids" 2 - I think the political environment of the last decades was/is such that pretty much any candidate from either party would have devolved into "Bush on Steroids" 3 - The fact that we elected a crooked Chicago style politician just meant we got "Bush on Steroids" on Steroids. Which might save us. Now, not only are centerline reps ditching the party for things like a more defined Libertarianism we are seeing that the centerline dems are also FINALLY getting fed up with the same shit in their own party and moving to alternate views as well. Combine this with a growing movement of people clear headed enough to acknowledge the out of control spending and borrowing and taxing going on for things that just intrude into our freedoms; we may finally get traction if a party of fiscal control and tight budgets is mixed in with a social agenda of "let people live their lives as they wish" instead of two parties of "tax/borrow/spend on my social vision" I think a lot of interest would be generated in a party based on "Spend the bare minimum and then mind our own business" philosophy. If the entrenched parties would just stop mischaracterizing them or try to hijack the movement. ...
