excuse me, no taxes? please fill out this questionnaire and tell us who you pray to, the last seven addresses of each person you might have shown the bike to, which political party you belong to, and any donations to political efforts or charities. Also, what is your opinion on RSLs, AADs, and the PRO and Coach ratings. Lastly, have you ever sat near a CrW dog in the last 7 years? thank you, we can't process that until you answer these questions (and maybe a few more) ... I know you meant this, but I'm feeling explicit today rephrase - Federal programs force taxpayers to involuntarily supplement the cost of poor decisions by purchasers that would be incentified to make smarter choices if the subsidies weren't there. ... which is actually a reasonable spin the real issue is that taking money from State A and giving it to State B (after taking a cut) and then next year taking it from State B and giving it to State A (after taking a cut) is goofy. the shell game should be eliminated, the states can take their own money for their own people and everyone ends up ahead - except for those that skimmed off it in the first place ... agreed - thus the jade. But a call from the pres and reported on by NPR is, by definition, political. so when the gov of OK asks for relief, they'll have to respond one way or the other - it's pretty little hole they are in. I suspect they'll support funding for THEIR state - just like every other senator would. I wonder if federal disaster relief is just another pointless exercise - it seems now that ~50 of the states are asking for it yearly - some seem to have drought and flood 'disasters' every year. It's likely a good opportunity to look at the net balance state by state and see if the states that have 'disasters' more frequently should take care of themselves and whether it would net out any worse (after the feds take their cut anyway). Whatever good intentions were initially, it appears to be a major money juggling scheme - just like all the other Fed programs. If the Senators would stick to their guns, they'd likely be voted out, but a message might be made that moves forward someday. ... So if the government increases taxes to build better tornado shelters in torano alley you'd consider that a power grab? Dude, you're getting pretty jaded. 1 - yes - very jaded. 2 - if you think a tax grab will go to better shelters and not diverted for other 'uses', that's another point in the naive column 3 - I told you - 'jaded' as Rush pointed out, it's a local, maybe state response needed (if a response at all is needed, this was a VERY serious natural disaster that maybe no level of reasonable shelter could shield) - let's see if Federal feels compelled to 'take action for the children' and how that really turns out ... tangent - when I was in the Navy, we found out the shipyard unions were opposing simple inventory scanning systems designed to quicken inventory throughput and lesson mistakes. It would get rid of the big staff of people that did this manually. They didn't care that the shipyards were dying. They didn't care that all the shipyards in the rest of world had already converted. They didn't care that the country would have a serious disadvantage in trade if we couldn't do this simple thing etc etc etc it's a natural tension and healthy - unless it gets totally unreasonable (on either side, even if my examples tend to be the union ones) unions can be a partnership, or adversarial. it seems the wrong choice in this matter is always the default. Our country was a young adult a couple decades ago. In terms of advancement, relations, how people exercised their rights, etc. It just seems that the general culture has reverted to a 13 year old spoiled male child. ... your assumption is that government mandates are the sole cause of product improvement that's cute certainly the manufacturer that just made the better car wouldn't have thrived over others that kept on making sucky cars. perhaps all the manufacturers would get together and agree to make only sucky cars -......true......if the government fostered a climate to back consolidated automaker unions - stifling improvements would certainly occur naturally as cause and effect (demonstrated time and again in many union industries) so what one might be saying, is that the government sponsored unions typically will stand in the way of product improvement and efficiencies - this will require the government to then step in and mandate product improvements to get around the union barriers to the same clever little bastards these politicians, aren't they? - put in laws, that require more laws to balance out, then more laws to fix that.......all the while lining their pockets with money and power ... That's off track - That is a direct, demonstrated set of 'actions' that proved the person broke a law. I think a rational argument can at least be made for exactly what you wrote. (A potential threat to others proved by virtue of demonstrated guilt as determined by the legal system) Much different than trying to look into the future and then denying a right to a person that hasn't ever broken a law but someone thinks that, maybe, possibly, they might...maybe. (Assumption of a threat not proven by any direct legal means. Only inferences and subjective non-logic) ... Target stores do that around here. that stinks really for a private company to have that data - but imagine if Target had your entire purchase history, and also had the potential legislative power to take your income (and they WANT your income very much), confiscate your property, and pass laws to try to affect your social behavior and voting patterns ... it's scary that this might actually be an option - that neither side can even come close to offering up someone that understands the middle and spending cuts - and that the public can't figure it out either on the plus side - - proof positive that just 'anybody' really could become the president of the USA.... ...
