  1. nice that's an entire new category to explore - misuse of the language to exaggerate a position add in newscaster pronunciations as just an annoying category, and we win a Bonfire thread: Americer Russier Wednesdee Thunda Storms . . . ... 2. Perception is reality - no it's not, it may be, it may not be Slow is fast - no it's just the opposite, buy a dictionary Young for her age - no, age is not subjective At least we had fun - sure, but your skills suck That just happens to people when they get old - (most of the time it's a lie/excuse for apathy and laziness) it's just my luck - no, you actions have more effect on your life than just random circumstance karma - I don't need to explain that nonsense, do I? what other trite phrases to people through out there that are blatantly wrong but they absolutely use as a crutch? ... 3. it's a trite little quote to some people - comforting falsehood or a businessman's or politician's little motivator statement I think it's worth understanding the basis of it as a way to understand how minds operate - it's very self identified falsehood is clearly a warning to people how easily manipulated people are all bets are off when someone starts off saying the "earth was flat once....." if someone today truly believes that (turtle clearly didn't) then we get to explore why trite statements are so totally abused and improperly used. ... 4. and there is nothing wrong with that - but it's still not "perception = reality". it's "perception is used to drive behavior regardless of reality" ... 6. this is what you said: "Because people react and think based on what their perception of reality is" this is what I said: "perception can sometimes drive behavior and consequences more so than actual reality. " so what's your beef with my statement other than I'm not giving credence to the "direct read" as stupid quaint and false old and trite statement? "perception" is NOT reality. the actions that occur due to false perception are reality - it's whole point of that crappy business quote and it's what people REALLY mean when they say it. The statement is absolutely false - that's the PURPOSE of this little quote. It makes the point by it's very existence. It is most clearly stated as "Perception is not always reality, but it can strongly drive behavior as if it were." The oversimplification of this particular false statement being true is the elegance and beauty of that chestnut and people have no clue that they are playing right into it. edit: it's equivalent of the idiotic skydiving quote "Slow is Fast"....utter bullshit. It's a perception of the statement used to drive calm and smooth behavior, that may eventually make a team faster (note that neither 'calm' nor 'smooth' = fast). Fast = fast, slow = slow. I hate that statement, we should directly train behavior instead of relying on false and trite cliches with the vague 'hope' that the real desired behavior will result. "slowing down now may result in faster performance later via correct application of arousal and execution" or even "hey asshole, stop trying so hard, you are not ready for it yet until you get a couple other things correct first" ... 7. Isn't it clear, that the widow (or widower) that leveraged their spouse's benefits certainly is a moocher. But not off of the taxpayer, but off of their spouse. But this is a private agreement/arrangement between them, so you could call it a contract rather than mooching. The earner had zero choice in the use of his money, so the aspect of the widow inheriting the benefit is just equivalent had the earner the original right to plan without the interference of the government. Trying to understand how the above reads to those with a fanatically lefty mindset. I'll attempt understanding below to enter the mind...... Read as follows: But this is a fluffy between them, so you could call it a fluffy rather than mooching. The earner had zero choice in the use of fluffy , so the aspect of the widow fluffy the benefit is just equivalent had the earner the original right to plan garbled white noise here the government. Thus, I am not sure how one enters this conversation since, philosophically, many consider that ALL of society's members are, by definition, moochers off of the government which owns all resources and all incomes from all members and subjectively gets to dole it out as gov sees fit. ... 8. side note - I think it says a LOT about the narrow mindedness of those locals you were trying to placate, avoid confrontation with. They were so incredibly nationalistic and biased - so completely unable to treat people one at a time, so amazinging unable to give up their indoctrinated biases, that they couldn't take you as an individual - to the point, where you had to lie and pretend to be someone you weren't. It says so much about them. You never trashed any hotel rooms. yet they made you pay for it, regardless of how subtly you paid for it. you only LET them do that to you ... Obamacare ?

Putting lib vs con aside, all veterans get preferential treatment in hiring by the US gov't. Or did you not know that? JerryBaumchen so the government is prejudice against non-vets I'd propose we just treat everyone the same and stop the madness. perhaps they can preferentially hire EVERYONE ... as noted, I'm wallowing (I love to hate boxes): but I don't know what you mean - vets are individuals, some do well, some don't - just like every other demographic I can think of. I'll take them as individuals. Not as some amorphous group. If they need extra help transitioning to civil life, or compensation for wounds received, or trauma - ok, I'm all for it. Other than that, if they return to civilian life, then they deserve absolute equal treatment. Nothing more, nothing less. Pretty much what we fought for, right? ... Obamacare ?

just wallowing in the stereotypes here: that's very conservative of you - the fact that you give voluntarily wouldn't your liberal mindset require you to want to give more to the government and let them decide what to give to veteran causes - it's not really your money to choose how you provide charity. It's pretty selfish of you to give to one cause when the government knows better who it should go to. ... 19. OK - so does the man with the new bride and one year old baby that's getting shouted at, tires slashed, threatened and attacked just sit and take it? Or does he try to escape? Or is he required to mind meld and figure out the intentions of this gang? Who has the burden? If the biker was hit, then he was blocking an escape route. That's the ONLY data the VICTIM/husband/father had. If he even noticed that specific person in his path. In that case, the biker was complicit, regardless of whatever the little voice in his head was telling him. It's not even a real debate. what's a good analogy? I'll try: You are in the car with three of your friends, you know what they are going to do, but you do nothing and just wait in the car. They rob a bank at gunpoint and you are stuck in the car. during the chase, you get run off the road and in the accident you break your leg. Do you have ANY recourse to sue the cop that was chasing you and your friends? Cripes - if he was innocent as a lamb, he, as a minimum should have been away from the SUV. Or even have driven off. AS A MINIMUM. Certainly not drive right up and in the middle of the conflict. at best, he should have departed and called the cops heroic? try to save the family in the SUV from the mob (not expected) ...
