here's my 'page' on just about EVERYTHING (item 1 better be reflected in all my posts, political, social and otherwise) 1 - I trust adults to make their own decisions and to take responsibility for their own decisions. 2 - Parents should raise children to be good adults. 3 - Adult decisions should wait until the child becomes an adult. follow the logic for this specific scenario a - marriage is an adult decision b - therefore, the person getting married makes that decision c - therefore, minors do not get married d - therefore, the responsibility of the parent in this regard is to NOT LET A CHILD MARRY. Rather, raise them to choose wisely once they are an adult, and hopefully, the parent does a good enough job such that the, finally, adult offspring, respects the advice of the parent (advice does not equal control). individual freedom and self determination and responsibility for adults is not negotiable - it's the absolute moral keystone ... If you delete this emotional and ignorant, then who do I take advantage of for financial and political personal gain? c'mon I scare them with race, nationality, global warming, pretty much anything (take examples from the Democratic and the Republican (pick other parties for other countries, and the religion playbooks, take typical attitudes about particular countries and play on it (those wacky Americans, those crazy Russians, those violent etc etc etc)) hell, half the posts here are about deleting someone's scary demographic they've indoctrinated to be frightened of 1 - people be confident in their abilities to earn their own way, and confident that others can do the same 2 - everyone treat each other as individuals - starting by giving the benefit of the doubt until observed individual actions can take over - no group think or judgments just because of cosmetics or home location, etc (pretty much eliminate the laziness that creates biases) 3 - yes, no more traffic lights ... it's an expression of immaturity and poor judgment at best creepiness and disrepect at worst - especially if there's an age difference involved love would be waiting until both were adult and could decide for themselves - 100, even 50, years ago maybe that was 15, today it's much older as a parent, I protect the CHILD from adult decisions, raise them to make their own decisions once adult. So I DO make the decision up until then. and that is stay away from the child. it's a shame about the accident.....whoops....propose molesting my child and I will break the law and accept the consequences (not 'justifiable', not under law. I never said it was correct or legal. Just that it would happen) ... I'll 'evaluate' the shit out of him. depend on it. but it's not my decision once she's grown up. Absolutely, it would be on her. I'll give an opinion. Even a very strong opinion. We did a good job raising her. I trust her judgement because of that. Prior to 18 it was also not my responsibility to choose a husband for her - it was my responsibility to make sure she didn't get married at all. what would you do? tie your daughter up? force her to marry someone else? maybe you should consider giving an upbringing where you have more trust for your adult children ... I do. i don't consider her property. i want her to be able to choose wisely for herself as an adult. she makes good decisions. Prior to 18, it was my responsibility to keep the creeps away from her and set an example such that she values herself enough as an adult to choose wisely. The outdated values you are defending here absolutely treat daughters as commodities and completely devalues them. We had a Euro poster here that was all gung ho about sex with 12 year olds and older. I told him his position was filthy, regardless of his local and social accepted laws and standards. This thread isn't any different, IMO, to me. It's ethically wrong. "Adults" get married. Children learn to become adults. In today's level of sophistication - Kids aren't adult at 14 like a long time ago, more like 25. if someone had proposed to marry her at 15/16/17/18 they would have accidentally smashed into the door frame as they were escorted out - the boy, or his parents, or both. and then I'd have warned the entire community about them ... crap - daughters are not property and should not be considered in that way the parents should raise their daughter so that, when she is an adult, she is capable and mature enough to, 'evaluate' her prospects on her own teenage weddings is a remnant of a crappy time when reproduction had priority over moral and good judgement a loving and mature 'authority' (i.e., good parents) should take the sole fact of someone making an offer to marry their minor (daughters or sons) as proof that the prospect is NOT suitable at all ditto on teenagers having adult physical relationships - crappy idea too. not ready for either ... One armed skydiver? Looking for info
rehmwa replied to RichM's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
to richm - it was a fun jump and fantastic day - my wife is a suitbuilder and also modified his original freefly suit to also serve double duty to position and protect the one arm so he could suit up easy and not require additional slings not designed to be compatible with skydiving gear. the guy is also a scuba instructor, swims a couple miles a day, last summer we played a round of golf (he won one hole closest to the pin contest) and so much more. There's plenty of life after an accident like you friend had. Some of these examples I'd hope will help him deal better. you're a good friend for looking out for him ... between this and, (pretty much every one of) Jakee's posts in this forum I'm out of here How hard is it to have a dialogue with Jerry without being assholes to him? The irony is this is a facet of pretty much what he's trying to get across. Disagree, or even give the appearance to possibly have something that may or may not give an illusion of disagreement and the self proclaimed "tolerant" crap all over discussion and trying to clarify what the meaning is, instead they start to dehumanize the other immediately. (that's pretty much the 'anti' of tolerance) ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

actually - there are forum rules against signatures that are Speaker Corner fodder, advertising, and a couple other things maybe they changed them since that one was being enforced, I don't know. But I recall Kallend and Amazon both got slammed down for it at one point or another. IMHO - preaching in a forum is tedious and counterproductive. I'll draw a conclusion. Either these specific drug dealers: 1 - love Obama care to put his name on their product 2 - hate Obama care to put his name on their product 3 - don't really have an opinion on Obamacare and it's just random 4 - have an odd sense of humor one of these I'll stand completely by - ....... ......depending on my mood and the argument and whatever position I've already pre-decided on and want to press ... my take is that if we are supposed to be so high and mighty and tolerant, then the name calling is counterproductive and indicative of similar ingrained biases. Essentially just one more demographic looking to manufacture a self superior attitude. if it was true and sincere, then they'd start a productive dialogue, not just get outraged and start vilifying before understanding - in otherwords, be the better persons they claim to be rather than demonstrating they are just as petty by using a different set of slurs ... dammit, Normiss. I have no idea what you look like, or your politics, or your parents' beliefs, or your income, or if you are from a goofy or 'normal' state, or anything..... How the hell can I judge you or make assumptions about you or make snide jabs? the only things I know are comments and conversations and some idea about how you act around others as an individual. One can't work with that kind of stuff - it's not easily put into pre-judged buckets of indoctrination. wait.......I think you are an American, so I can at least belittle you for those things......whatever the hell those are ... the Jet Li move - I'm really torqued as I wanted to practice that same move - (not for protection, but just because it's neat). But my handgun has a little tiny internal release that needs to be moved, in addition to the rocker bar release. So it can't be done with that handgun. ... I know, I know - 1 - normal processing of prisoners, gowning, inspection, and incarceration 2 - combined with insight to other cultures (note that informing this crowd of these things will either result in PC pats on the head and congratulations.... or enraged accusations of various "isms" of many types - it really depends on who is feeling outraged and what your political alignment is) results in a bit of clarity BUT - I'd rather feel outraged and bitch and moan, so I'm going to ignore your posts. Education is for the weak. And, for that matter, I won't have you bad mouthing the Lethal Weapon series - I'm getting too old for this shit I like the fact that, in general - if an officer is present for doffing and donning - then it's a horrible 'strip search'. But if an officer isn't present, then the claims would be the prisoner was left 'unattended and at risk of suicide or personal injury' I could apply the same dilemma to 'cavity search' - do it and be accused of a personal violation. Don't do it and be accused of failing to conduct a proper health physical under the minimum standards of the ACA, as well as putting other prisoners at risk in case she had a bomb, shiv, or AR type gun tucked away. won't someone please think of the children? ...
