Everyone has a learning curve. They are probably too stiff and would be twitchy in the boxman/frog modified/etc. After 200 jumps, he should be 'settled down' by now regardless. If it's not fun, don't jump with him unless you guys are working on the problem specifically. Send him up on solos to get comfortable. He'll smooth out. ... from one Rehm to another Rem {{{{actually, the best mantis turns you don't need your arms to stay centered - you do need to with boxman}}}} Thats not a requirement for team jumps as the speed is pretty much leveled and stable. Also, I'd argue you probably dont really have a larger range, just a faster fall rate when neutral. {{{disagree - my fall rate range is huge since learning mantis - the flat board style of fall rate control is way more effective than arching and 'hugging the beach ball'}}}}} Again, you dont have to fly mantis to cheat grips. {{{{he's talking about having to fall faster while simultaneously taking grips in a boxman, not cheating cheating alone}}} I'm not saying its not a better position for some, but its not the end all be all. {{{If you read the above, everyone agrees you can fly in most any position, but mantis is superior in almost every way - someday, there might be another improvement. let's hope so}}} ... 3. Funny stuff here. Those that say "it definitely doesn't ....." certainly won't transfer any skills. I find that one complements the other skill set and hope that others see it too. But I also believe it's because I CHOOSE to apply those lessons. Still, it's generalities (how to feel and respond to the wind on surfaces, awareness, mental stuff, etc.). 4-way is more effective as the mantis style is all about harnessing more energy more efficiently - that can translate to FF if you know about it (and vice versa). e.g., if you are aware and solid in your mantis, you can snap a turn just by rolling your ankles - I guess that kind of awareness just isn't applicable the FF? It's always about how the individual learns. Luckily, humans like to generalize, and then argue about whose generalization is more correct. I'd like to take a year and only Freefly (it's FUN), I'm sure I'd get good, but I love 4-way just TOO MUCH to devote more than 25 - 35% of my time to FF. And there's also CrW and swooping and base ....... Again, pity the fool that only does one style of skydiving. (still scared of wingsuits, though - soon enough) ... 4. 4 way rotation team is Quantum Leap - according to Brian, they don't have a website. I think they are out of Sullivan. The 4 way sequential team is the Lodi team. I believe parachutecenter.com (Bill and Kathy Dause's dropzone) might speak about them. I don't know but will look later today. ... 6. Met a great crowd of people. Missed the 60-way by 1 grip. Won the AA class of the NPSL. Got to camp with my teammates. Had an entire week with my wife, without my daughter. Argued with some guy in the showers about him not forcing his way into a shower when the women in the shower didn't want him in there. (Women - go ahead and comment about co-ed showers. My position - if you don't care, that's cool, but if you want to shower without men, they should respect that. Should they respect it or just state it's uptight and it's a boogie? I think the CFs will have more issues in the future on this one if they don't address it soon.) Even bought some stuff from Skykat (Looking in the mail for my new Z1). 26 jumps - pretty small, but the big ways ate up over a day in total. Best ever. ... Short answer - Mantis will give you much more range (both on the slow end and the fast end) than boxman does. good luck ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  8. Mary - You're sweet and it was a pleasure. Keep the showers safe from the perverts (or those that just plain won't understand). We'll finish a big way next year. I've got some of the 60 way video and we did look good. The 2 pointer was the cleanest of the bunch. Blue skies ... 25. That's not leftist, nor is it right. The far left and far right views are both very religious ("believe it because I say so"). What you are talking about is using fact and discovery to draw data-based conclusions. Both sides would hate you for this because you are questioning big brother. That's where I am so we are in agreement here. Good for you for not using your biology forum as a platform for pushing any agenda other than biology. it's funny though that I state fact based positions are important and emotional response are a poor choice and responders just assume I'm far right republican. (actually, I'm atheist, fiscally conservative and socially think problems should be dealt with locally. That is neither palatable to either party) It's more likely libertarian in concept, but those candidates are completely wacko so I don't have a home there either. I believe you pick issues important to you (NOT JUST ONE). Find out which candidate agrees with you best and vote for them if you think they'll do what they say (trustable). Regardless of which party. I like facts and little spin. my opinion on this topic is Fox presents facts and both sides better than the other 'stations'. For recent voting, both sides are ridiculous lately, but I find that republicans (in general) are less afraid to give facts, where the dems are most likely to go nuts if you question them. Talk radio is stricly entertainment, not news, so that message is diluted. ...
