  1. You're sweet Minxxx - I'll checkout the updated website soon. You are an 8-10 point average team right now and you sell t-shirts and accessories???!!! The best I've worked out is discounted team jumps, and then only for one season. We are definitely doing something wrong here in the northern plains. ... 2. Yoinks, we are talking about 4 ways for newbies and there's no time limit here (we jump from 12.5 - 13K) Minxxxxxxxx and Kallend - Sorry about the confusion. 29 points from altitude is more like 50 - 60 seconds working time (plus track/dump), not 35, sorry about the confusion. And we need to be more consistent to even think of going to regionals, let alone nationals, let alone the podium. And not every draw is an all american. (If you see the french video, they scored 42, but did 52 points during the vid and that was from 10.5 feet and they goofed off at the bottom bumping heads and such). I bet in time it was in the high teens for competition time
  3. Quote[i was actually "taught" was to watch the group ahead of you ...if I counted six seconds and someone was right below the plane, I would wait longer reply] I've seen this too and it seems ok, but it's the same as the 45 rule (a little better) or still like counting your fingers (great example). They are in the same relative wind as the airplane and unless they are zoomie, will fall away the same way every time. What you are seeing is an illusion. Gravity is not a variable here and relative to the airplane, neither is wind speed. Same answer - check your penetration on jump run relative to the PLANET (look at the ground speed). If you aren't moving fast across the ground, wait longer. It's easy, on jump run, just look out the window (down) and see how the earth is moving past the edge of the window/door/etc. The better way to calculate exit separation using the winds aloft and take into account the different layers of wind ends up being goofy as the winds change and every jump run is different. But it can be used for a general feel. What matters is the airplane's progress against the ground, not the wind. Missing this little detail is where all these stupid little rules came from. ... 5. I'll take your gripes on my gripes. But cameramen in the back is fine with me, until you have 4 of them to crawl over (while they are still tightening leg straps, pulling on helmuts and yelling "GO GO GO"
  6. I've been on both sides and think that Wendy nailed the response. Here's some more: 1 - 3% nowadays is pretty good considering that many places haven't had raises at all for the last three years - I don't know your industry, though. What are the high performers getting, you might already be in that group. Also, most departments get a certain amount to divide. Any extra that you'd get means less for your coworkers - are you that much better than them? You might be. If so, don't feel bad, you deserve it, they don't. 2 - Go ahead and interview elsewhere, see what they "offer", not what they "advertise". It's sometimes very different. You might also find a dream job. Unfortuneately, a good way to jack up your salary is to job hop when the market is good. 3 - The amount of work you do for a job description is irrelevant. But the pay it would take to replace you is not. In the end, we hire talent, not a position, so you are hired for what you can do, not to fill the requirements of the job you first interviewed for. If your talent exceeds your pay, you need to back it up by comparing it to higher level positions in the same industry, not your current job description. 4 - Are you visible in that your accomplishments are well known and tied to $$$$ and goals for the company? This helps. I get tired of the "my guys work hard" statement. Everybody works hard, but does their work pay off more than the others? 5 - It NEVER hurts to ask, most managers want to take care of their people. But most employees think it's a contest and approach the issue as 'why are you screwing me over' - that doesn't go over. In reality, it's really a team. A calm approach with facts and a cool head will usually work and impress the boss. Unless she's a jerk. Good luck ... 7. We use pies for 1000, 2000, etc. But 100's gets cupcaked. (is 'cupcaked' a verb?) Being pied is glorious, and everyone should get them every time. 8. Omniskore.com has a good simulator. The freefall drift thing is poignant if the lower winds and uppers are different (normally uppers are faster than lowers.) Here's what I do when I have little information. I watch the ground from the plane and gage how much ground speed we have. If we are cooking along the ground (little uppers) we usually don't take much between groups (maybe just a normal climb out is enough). If we are practically standing still (high uppers) it's no big deal and we sometimes wait a 20 count between groups (and yet everyone still makes it back). Unless your plane is super fast, I doubt you'll ever really see 45 degrees (maybe in the first second). You'll likely see the same angle no matter what the winds are doing. good luck gripes? 1 - cameramen who have to sit in the back for us to crawl around during climb out even if the plane isn't crowded 2 - people who aren't ready to go when the door light goes on 3 - tandem masters who look at the manifest to see how many open spots are on the plane and then take them for leg room (conversely, the guy in the back that won't scoot down after the low jumpers leave but just lays back) 4 - People shouting "GO GO GO" when the first group is just checking the spot and for airplanes - relax, some of us do remember how to spot ... 9. And I have a lot of friends that work in Perris. We have one of the Otters every summer. And with the thing run by BC, I'm hoping that the Perris tunnel is an option whether we get coaching or just self coach with a lot of time. I don't know which tunnel we're planning on yet, but I'm sure to send notice to meet some DZ.commers when it's reserved. The November camp is Orlando. ... 15. OK - Signed up for my second Tunnel Camp in November. I'm bringing my inside center and our alternate point along for their first camps. I'm not sure yet who the coaches are as the NSL site seems out of sorts today. I'm sure we are also taking about 10 people out in the spring for just tunnel time and more tunnel time. I can't wait for next year's competitions. This should bring us up another notch. of course, some of you guys just live near the tunnel..... ... 19. Quote>Boy, am I against that. People who use services should pay for them.[/reply Hey, I agree with a Billvon statement in politics, what a wonder - However, it he really means it, it would extend beyond just car tags. I mean defense, parks, roads, fire, water, etc. That sounds like everyone pays the same regardless of income. So I don't believe he means it. This would support a tollway type of system where use matters, not value of car. But that exploits the people who use roads!!!! Flat rate on income or sales tax still makes sense from the keep it simple stupid perspective. Or, fees for users for 'every' government supported program (ack - administrative nightmare). Hopefully, Cali can remove Davis and cut spending and get out of this 'quagmire'. ... 20. Exactly, that's the problem with most of these political conversations. Libs (typically) are now the party of "you can't do that" "we shouldn't have done that" "everyone is wrong, but I don't know what's right". This is why they've lost so much in the last 6 years. You need to stand FOR something, not always just Against something with no alternatives. At least we (US) did something about something we didn't start. And not one of the people complaining can say that their way would have been better. ... Thanks Ron, that's what happened to me in the tunnel when learning. I swirled whenever I tried to stop a turn - since the legs were too wide, (it must've been) I couldn't really dig a knee straight down - now I understand why Shannon kept telling me to keep them closer and why it worked. Doesn't mean I am any good at it, just good coaching. Practice Practice Practice Practice I really need another camp.... ... 24. Everyone posted a 19. The Knights are still down 12 from MB and up 9 over Norway and UK. Only one round to go and hard to see anything change other than the 3rd place battle between Norway and UK (maybe Italy - 2 points down). I can't wait to see the footage from this meet. But Round 8, when everyone world class hit 18 MB pulled a 21! Like round 5, I hate to say it, but MB ate their Wheaties for this meet. I'm a big Army fan here and look how much space they put between themselves and everyone else, so I'd say that MB stepped it up a CHUNK. When those top 5 teams are separated by over 20 points, someone is really operating outside the normal envelope (norway, uk and it are great teams). I am hoping this carries over congrats to the US team and good hunting on round 10 anyway 8-way - These guys pulled out 3 points to get within 1 of the Russians!!!!! GO US. Big round 10 coming up. Since they are up by 9 points over France, they have 2nd cinched, so they can go for it for the gold. The women picked up 3 points and are clearly in the medals. It doesn't look like they hit their game this time. ... Good response, but disagree on the wider knees. Shoulder width apart or just a little more is more effective.
