    Creepers

One more thing. You just as well use the best side of the wood for the 'down side' as the other side is glued to foam. I'll rough up the glue side so the adhesive has gouges to fill in. I'd sand and paint the wood side 'before' mounting the castors if I were you. ... Creepers

I've built six so far. (four in college which we upholstered) 1 - Lay down on a half to 3/4 inch plywood and trace a form. Anything will do. I also put in a handle on one side to carry and a whole in the top to hang from. I have a standard pattern, but it's not a huge deal. 2 - Walmart has sleeping bag foam (~$14). If you cut the form right, each foam can be used to cover two (2) forms. It's high density and 'egg crate' and has a stiff surface. Several colors. 3 - 3M spray adhesive. 4 - Go to the internet and find Dunn and Co Castor company. They are in Des Moines, IA. They have a double bearing (both the pivot and wheel) castor for about 8 bucks/each. It has a red, hard rubber/poly wheel. You'll have to call and ask for it, they have a couple people who know what I'm talking about if you mention these castors for skydivers (double bearing, for skydivers, hard poly rubber wheels, four hole plate). It's perfect. If they are still not sure what you want, just describe the function of the castor. THE CASTOR IS THE ONLY THING OF IMPORTANCE IN THE CREEPER. You can always get cheaper foam or more thick foam, or even upholster the thing. But if you get a Home depot castor, you'll be very disappointed. Dunn & Company 4405 121st Street Urbandale, IA 50323 (800)728-3866 (515)244-7276 Fax (515)244-6731 or (888)799-3866 e-mail: sales@dunncasters.com Affix the wheels to the forms (you can figure out the right hardware, smooth tops so they don't poke through the foam.) I use one under each thigh, one at the top and one in the middle. If you get the right castors, you don't need to worry about raising the middle wheel. Lay out the foam and spray the flat side. Spray the forms. After the adhesive is tacky, pick up the form by the castors and place it on the foam (glue to glue). Let the glue dry. Cut off the extra foam from the edges last. An electric carving knife works well. Also a good quality carving knife if you use smooth long strokes (don't tell my wife which knife I use). Each creeper is about $50 ($32 castor, $8 foam, bolts/washers/nuts/glue). I also used it as my excuse to buy a jig saw and mouse sander....... good luck ... Sewing?

The surger is a big deal. My wife now has a surger (spelling?) and an industrial sewing machine. She did real well last year making freefly suits and pants and it's a ton cheaper to make our own (and everything is custom). Paid off both machine. A cheaper alternative to Supplex is light demin. It feels heavier, but it breaths better. Tough too. She got cordura two weeks ago and made me a weight belt. (and the weights). There is a ton you can do. (military riggers thread is cheap and strong, 2 inch velcro for the cuffs) I should learn to sew, it's helping us a ton. Also, our daughter is very skinny and tall for her age and this means either expensive clothes or normal clothes with at-home mods. ... 9. Always with you guys it's what you "don't trust". Don't agree with. Don't like. Easy enough to complain. That doesn't help. But fair enough. If you disagree, you should be prepared to state clearly where that line is drawn instead of 'who knows'. Better if you'd state who you'd trust. Would you trust an admin run by Al Gore Better? Any of the current Dem candidates? Arnold Schwar....." Why? And no fair just saying "anybody else", that's the same as complaining without offering alternatives. Again, the candidates out there have a lot of 'soft' commentary ('build a consensus' WTF does that mean?) and disagreements with current policy, and requests for apologies (ooooh that'll help), but no clear set of actions. It's all words. Politics is dead. Both sides are a bunch of sad, snippy little old gossips with bitter tirades about semantics and other ineffectual crap. hey, brownies! gotta run ... 10. I really enjoyed Slander by Ann C. Haven't read Treason yet. Right up to, but not including the last 2 pages which went essentially as follows (paraphrase) "Liberals, I hate them, I hate them, I hate them." 12. Betsy at USPA is sending the NW policy. FYI - she says they are likely to post them on the website so we can get them directly. I hope this happens. (I said likely). USPA can be cool and helpful once in a while.... One last thing to get. I found some older posts with info, so I know there's not much discussion here. ... 13. I'm traveling to San Jose for a couple weeks. After reading the last couple e-mails on this subject, I'm going to carry on my rig and try to jump/play with as many people as I can find and try a couple different DZs. I'd like to have three documents with me during checkin: 1 - The TSA letter to USPA outlining their policy (you know it conflicts with the cypres guidance?) I have it

  21. Nutz - You'll figure it out and learn to slow up also (because you have to). Start jumping with the same people and get a little coaching. You'll get good fast soon enough. (old timers story, to skip, hit your back key - 1987 - I was trying to get my 4 point 4way for licensing. {little C182 DZ that only went to 8500} we finally got 2 good divers and me and another newbie on a simple 4 way. This was it, we are gonna do it. 3 points, and I track away early at 4000 ft. I'm 20 feet away before I catch my mistake and then it's too late to go back and get that last point. Got a lot of shit for that (we normally broke at 3000-3500). It wasn't much longer before we got it. Now 4 points on the hill is a better goal. Everyone gets better. Keep practicing. ... 22. I'll take that as true (actually, it's perfect), but not practical, (from the airplane on jump run) you can't see how fast the wind is blowing at 2000 ft. The short of it is some people grasp relative reference frames and some don't. Those that don't need a simple rule of thumb. They know who they are (or do they?). But will you accept that it makes more sense to gage delays by watching the ground speed rather than the previous group? That's my point. (and in that same e-mail, I agree with you that best case is to always set up delays by looking at the winds aloft in the layers - it just doesn't help if you want an easy rule for the newbies to use on jump run.) ... 23. It's on: www.skyleague.com just page down the front and you'll see it. Kurt posts a lot of dives on the site and changes them every week. The 42 pointer is on there likely until we beat it. I've downloaded the entire dive pool a couple times from just downloading Majic and the Knights and Airspeed. I like Majic's individual talent and have pulled a lot of good information from the vids. The Knights dives are some of the cleanest downloads from this sites, also. You missed getting the GK round 5 from last years nationals, it's a lesson in 'smooth'. good luck ... 24. Good luck ( and actually, the last two years I've also designed and given t-shirts to the team - don't tell anyone but I'm a little obsessed with 4-way). Since the same group is sticking together for a second year in a row, I'll get real nice t's for the team. Maybe if we start scoring in the 10's, the DZ will sell our shirts up front. For 2004, the 2003 logo is good, except the purple has to change to maroon since my IC got a new suit and rig and changed his colors. I can't wait until we are good enough to warrant matching jumpsuits, though. Bill ...
