  1. I am jealous and super excited for you. These camps are fantastic and flying Mantis the last couple years has raised my skill level to places I never knew I could fly. They'll show you if you're ready. Great guys and you can trust their judgement calls. If I were you, I'd specifically ask for the Mantis training right away and make it your goal for the camp. In any case, trust your coaches adn be open to new things - they'll not let you down. I you start Mantis now, you won't have to break the boxman habit. (You will trade 2 hours of muscle memory in Mantis, vs. half hour of Boxman). It's so worth it and you'll naturally fly that way from day one. We are working with newbies at my dropzone with about 25 - 50 jumps on Mantis right now and they are doing fine - more than fine, it's scary how good they are getting. Do a couple of these camps and learn Mantis and you'll be flying circles around your husband as far as speed, precision, fall rate control and so an and so forth. If you're interested in that kind of ability. If the camp is in Oct Nov-Mar - buy a full set of thermals in addition to the advil, water bottle and gloves. ... 2. Erica - You're not that far away. Come up and we'll take you for one or two or .... I still have to meet more DZ.commers anyway - missed a chance in No Cal two weeks ago. Next trip I won't make that mistake. Pistol - Good policy. I should clarify, 2-ways where I only lay base, with full pre and post brief I don't argue if they offer to buy my slot. I won't ask for the pack, ever. If I get to play, spin in place, or do monkey see-monkey do dives, I'll do that for the smiles and laugh and mock them if they offer to buy. That goes for both RW or CrW. We were all there once. In some places I'm still there. Example, there is one friend who is helping me on my freeflying in the same way (I'm only fair at it). It comes around in one way or the other. Nice thing about not charging - you can be biased with who you play with - for example, pretty girls. Realistically - anyone with a crappy attitude we won't waste time on (e.g., they already know 'everything', or think they are 'entitled' to the experience). We try not to be biased ... 5. QuoteWith all due respect, there are very few people making RW videos and tons of people (myself included) making freeflying videos. Why? Because freeflying is more graceful and conducive with music playing in the background. {{{Bull - Tons of RW video and videographers - some of the world's best, and just as good to video and put to music. I suspect you frequent mostly FF DZs, but I think you're just wrong on this one. Watch Deland Majik and Airspeed and and the Golden Knights and tell me how ungraceful they are. My point was showing a concept with the appropriate material, not favoring one flying style over the other which I think you are doing}}} QuoteI like freeflying, but the clips only showed it if you were a skydiver[/reply = unclear] {{{My bad, I'll clarify. As a skydiver (RW, CRW and FF, Swooping), I know how hard it is to do some of the moves shown. But in the video, it just looked like a lot of guys facing off - it doesn't represent the statement of 'precision and control'. There is better FF footage that is much more dynamic than shown and would have been better video to show 'control and precision' rather than making dumb statements like "Imagine riding two trains at 200 MPH and throwing a tennis ball back and forth". Again, better yet, show a good 4-way team screaming through a world record pace to show "precision and control". BTW I'm not saying delete the freeflying - it was nice. But in video, show the concept rather than show what you want and then try to explain it. Again, rather self serving video and the directors weren't all around jumpers, just your typical specialists (impression). I want a 50 foot monitor to show skydiving vids. Blue Skies ... 6. Thanks for the bump. I should find the beer buyers and spend time with them. Sharing the knowledge - Good post and someone mentioned how coaching now means buying a jump for the self proclaimed 'coach'. That does stink. My 4-way team has a regular thing: I get two of my teammates, we go find a newbie (less than 200 jumps more than 20) and we take them on a 4-way all random jump designed for them. 1 - the newbie gets to make a 10 to 20 point 4-way and be in a fairly smooth but fast moving environment. They learn tons and talk about it for weeks. Last week we took a guy up for 23 points (he had 197 jumps) - the week before, we took up a newbie for a 12 point dive (she had 24 jumps and just graduated). 2 - Me and my guys get to be together and practice with the extra benefit of having a 4th person throwing in unexpected fall rate changes, position shifts, etc. I think everyone benefits. Do one or two a weekend and you build up new jumpers for the future, make a lot of friends, get a good reputation, have fun, and learn something new. Ok, a little hokey but I mean every word. ... 8. Seen it - liked it - couple comments though 1 - kind of an ego rub for adrian don't you think? 2 - they showed freeflying and then 'talked' about how hard it is and the precision required since it wasn't easy for whuffos to tell. Why not show Airspeed doing their thing since that's pretty visually showing precision and ability without the narration (I like freeflying, but the clips only showed it if you were a skydiver)? 3 - The DaVinci stunt was very cool. But DaVinci's premise was drop from any height and "land". They didn't land it. (I don't blame him at all - boards and canvas don't give me much trust under 1000 ft.) 4 - The premise of the bio-chemical addition to adrenaline was a bunch of junk. That might apply to the people who make a few and then quit. But those in the long term are just as often athletes and rather calm about it as much as the adrenaline types. 16. The goat is not slaughtered in this pic. Just riding on the bike. I thought you were saying it's cruelty to tie the goat to the man and transport by biking. That's the low 'threshhold' I'm speaking to. We weren't on the same page. As far as slaughtering food. Slaughter is either cruel or not depending on how it's done. I don't know if, or how, the guy in the pic dresses out his livestock so I can't speak to it. As far as we know, that goat might be his dinner that night or his cherished pet. ... In the scheme of things, $400 isn't much though it would seem to be to kids and college students. I know that both my wife and I work. I make a lot, she makes little. Since we are married, she pays at the same tax rate I do. If we were single and living together, she'd pay almost nothing in taxes and get all those freebies that non-taxpayers get that I pay for. I believe that also included some of the $400 credits to people that don't pay any tax. There is not a break for being married, just the opposite. I see T-leg's point, except it's a hypothethical and not in practice. Instead of the credit, I'd rather have seen larger across the board cuts and a more streamlined government. Also, rules for the cuts to NOT allow the local and state governments to increase their taxes to offset my national cut. Also, equal tax rates for married people as the single types get. 21. That sure would be contradictory of the requirement/definition of "Faith" (ie belief WITHOUT proof - is a prerequesite for winning). What about the catagory of "it doesn't matter if there is a god or not"? Although that might align with the catagory of the 'uninvolved' god..... I voted not believing, although I think 'some' people of faith draw strength from their beliefs and that's cool for them. Me, if you are a good person just because you are looking for a reward in the afterlife, then you're doing it for the wrong reasons. These are a lot more fun over beer and in person. ... Mac v Windows

I have one rule to keep it simple. Whatever you have at work (or whatever your kids have at school) should be what you have at home. Do you notice that the 'militant' Mac vs PC discussions just don't happen like they used to even 10 years ago? Maybe they systems aren't that different any more. 24. It's simply satire. And funny. I don't see a political slant either. From either party, the California politics are pretty screwed up. Funny thing about leftists (and I don't say that Justin claims to be left) is they take this type of article as serious 'news'. No humor. I'll look for current articles from the left that are both: serious about their position, and even more wacked out. Shouldn't be hard. ...
