I've flown all but the point on Diamond/BY and by far the two tail positions are a gas. I always thought the tail was most fun until I took the "ride" as the IC with a good tail person. Yow! that's fun. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Hi BB - It's not so much the least experience as it was the best slot for that person's skill set. (I have OC as I'm more still than the others and can make the big turns as good as any, my IC has the best eyes and was the obvious person to run the keys, my point is extremely dynamic with a flexible neck , and my tail is patient and very talented - Frankly, I can't imaging being lucky enough to have these talents and temperaments in this mix, it made slot assignments very easy). Personally, I think that, especially for less experienced teams, that the tail is a very difficult slot as the center doesn't always stay put and, when they do think they need to correct, it's usually to the detriment of the tail - if you know what I mean.... I very much like the idea of fitting the 20 move to focus on the tail's close. We did that at the end of the season and it really cleaned up nicely. I'll focus hard to retain this lesson, especially with all good feedback here. ?? - If experience was your only criteria, where would you put the least experienced person...... ... Well, with training this year, I'm hoping to significantly speed up and improve the centering of the turns of my tail. and I believe the point can go a bit faster if we are successful with the tail. Maybe we just want to keep up when she hits her next burst in skill improvement (it's really cool, she's on a great ramp end of last season and, as our least experienced person, it directly impacts the whole performance). Although right now, smooth and centered and syncronized is fast on that block...just like you said. I just want to keep it clean for the ind flyers while enabling everybody to get faster, I'm pretty sure on what we need to do and can test it in the tunnel soon. Thanks ... All the disciplines have their benefits, it depends on how hard you want to push yourself. If you have long term commitment to the sport, spend 1000 jumps on one aspect, then 1000 on another, etc. Try competing, that makes it different, or go pick 2 and mix it up 50/50, I'm more like 90/10 for 4way/FF but that works for me, I'll do CrW if anyone asks and like to surf on landings with the other canopy (but a couple lessons would be nice). Even the occasional trash dive, big way, stunt, demo or coaching dive is satisfying with the right people and I make a point to mix these in when possible. No need to restrict yourself. Once you have your basics in place, mix it up and have fun. I found 4-way this way, although sometimes I just very much want to do some FF anyway, you might be surprised what really trips you when you do each of them. ... He does pull in well on this kind of stuff. "steps forward" That's making me think about how I do it vs how he does it. I think I got it now. We can play with it in the tunnel in April. You ever think about disecting a block or two a week here just for the fun of it? I used to get Skydiving mag and the only thing I ever really read was the brief columns on techniques. Right now, I get most out of the vids on the knights and airspeed, but the sequencing is sometimes so fast as it's hard to see the pauses, etc..... ... In 20, we're set up with the IC having grips on me (OC). We spin the piece backwards, of course. It doesn't feel snappy, nor very quick. When we switch positions, we can really cook it. I do most all the work with my legs then. Doesn't matter who I'm on since (I've substituted for other teams in this slot and was actually asked to go slower on the repeat so the outside guys could establish the) rythym) Any thoughts on what can make that piece sluggish? I just dig my inside leg and try to let my IC spin it. I'm wondering if I'm doing something to slow it down. I can't see his position normally so I have no info here. Should I be turning, driving legs, or just staying passive? What about my IC? Edit: we shear the 540 and cog the 360 with the 2-way if it matters - would the 540 go over or under? ... That's too bad about CSS. I've never met a pilot that didn't take a correction. Maybe grumble, maybe point out it's a moot correction, but generally cool. With the canopies today, though, most minot corrections a new person will risk don't much matter. So unless the pilot is WAY off, it won't help much, but it won't hurt much either. ... "rubbish" Whatever; you are advocating preferences for admission in violation of objective test scores in favor of a subjective criterion. It's just wrong and wrong way to correct a perceived error (two wrongs and all that). I agree to give aid to the disadvantaged one - that's the financial aid. But to skew admissions? Why, another example of the same thing is legacy favoritism. Also wrong as a different example. Still, calling this hypothetical kid a 'loser' as based on merely the school listed on the admissions form is even a lousy drive-by for you and still speaks to your orientation on how you define fairness. Again, I'll admit to a difference basis of viewpoint from you and agree to disagree. what kind of beer do you like? ... Doh - Of course, you are right (that wasn't so hard to say) So for my point it's staged: let oc clear dip torso under the IC as he passes raise up as/before the tail passes and watch for the OC to close still must make the turn while slipping under) and a bit of forward motion to meet (maybe a body length) mini-corrections but the catch visual is a donut picture? and the 3-way moves to that same beat: OC clear, IC pass and accelerate, tail pass and start to brake, finish with OC presented to point - the 3-way still does most of the turn - maybe 220 - 240? When spinning big round pieces I think in terms of pushing the individuals through and past the center rather than just rotating the piece, this way they kind of spin and translate forward through the shear - same idea? ... Booties - get them now and you won't have to unlearn bad stuff. Also, having booties added later is not optimal and is a weaker cut than having them original. (if they make you too dynamic, you can fold them inside your pant leg for a bit.... - but don't do it right away, give them a chance and you'll like them tons). Also, start learning the Mantis right away. Again, why unlearn bad habits. We are starting some of our newbies with Mantis right at A license time and they are doing PHENOMINAL. (This is from the perspective of "why learn RW unless you want to be fast", if you just want to 'have fun' then I just can't look at you right now. If you just want to have 'fun' then be comfortable, but you'll still like the booties. And it's fun to go fast. Maybe not necessary, but a must have. ... John is assuming cause and effect So are you I see correlation and casual (not causal) relations, the only way to test either one of your theories is to legalize guns and see which way it goes. (i.e., is the effect reversable). But I think John also has data where guns were made more accessible and crime dropped. So that would more likely support his view than yours. Best to test it in the same culture though. In both directions a couple times to see. Got 40 years to run an experiment? Or else it's a non-relation either way. ... Kallend's Physics 101 - So you have two kids in your class and they take the same Physics 1 exam. One is from a private school and the other is from an inner city school. They both score 80% Do you give them different grades? Would you if you were allowed? If you knew one went and got a tutor to do better, would you dock his grade down as a result? It's the same thing. Financial aid is different than admissions requirement. Of course it's impractical to 100% interview - and it's still unethical to make judgement calls based on how much money someone's family has and use that to decide if a kid can go to school or if he's a 'loser' - rich or poor bias, both are wrong. Particularly if his test scores are satisfactory. If the test scores were switched around and someone argued to send the rich kid anyway even though his score was 50 lower it would be wrong. It's wrong either way. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
