First bit - I had moved into direct mockery at that point. It was getting funny to hear some of the junk being spewed. (and possibly I do think the submeguloids should be sterilized, they're killing the rose bushes). No bitterness, no self-congratulatorinessiness, just mockery. Your last paragraph - That's my whole point. And not just "applying" yourself in the classroom, but just experiencing life while on your own has more impact than the degree program. So if you feel that way, then you can't say the degree gives you more 'advantage' than any other - it's just background noise on the effect. So which is it? Thanks for agreeing (I think). Lastly, I am hoping that even though you write it, you aren't advocating to "force people to study certain areas". Who's going to make that list? Big Brother I suppose. Are you a closet supremacist? {{[[of course not]]}} Edit: Please mock my grammar. Without mockery, we really don't have any fun. ... It's a nice reply, John. But I still doubt that something as simple as total credit hours is causal at all to the completeness (well roundedness) of the individual. Of course you'd think that if you don't have a degree in Liberal Arts. But how were you to know? Us submeguloids without L.A. diplomas need to be sterilized for sake of humanity's future. But it's worth it once you think of the utopia to follow. (reminds me of the Simpson's episode [spoof on a Douglas Adams segment] where the Earth was ending and one set of space ships had the scientists and engineers and doctors. The second space ship has all the actors and etc (read Liberal Arts types) and Homer - they sent the second ship into the sun, but Homer and Bart got out anyway because they couldn't stand to be in with those people for the extra few seconds to wait for a burning solar death. Now that's a funny use of stereotyping and extrapoloation.) ... Stats 101...P=0.001 means the difference noted is extremely unlikely to be just natural variation between the two groups caused the difference noted. Losing weight - eat less, burn more, or both. Exercise burns more, but so does a metabolism bump and, for some people, high protein/low carb gives that bump. I see people noting Atkins as "eat all you want". That's a misrepresentation. It advocates balance of diet, exercise and controlling carb levels and not eating processed and unnatural stuff. It's when someone abuses the concept and eat's all they can of meat, cheese, etc is when they'll get in trouble. That said, I believe weight loss must be custom to your specific metabolism. Some fit Atkin's some fit others. Example, high protein/low carb works extremely well for me, not so great for the wife. I can do Atkin's (or south beach or any of those that are essentially the same diet), she's more effective with strictly calorie control and exercise. It's about the individual. So I don't see how you guys are sitting and bashing/defending a particular diet since one size never fits all. ... Oh, that's where all the supermen came from . All it takes is a diploma to be 'complete'. I thought that was the scarecrow from the wizard of oz. Pretty tough on all those subhumans out there without Lib arts training. But if they don't know what they're missing, they can't miss it. You can always pity them and try to take care of them. ... you two are right of course. Merchndizing here we come! Tunnel Time, if we do get any back, it's looking like we planned good and it'll be a wash or we'll pay a little bit there is absolutely no reason to give the government a free loan (also, tax refunds frequently get taxed the following year as income - state for fed/fed for state. Why pay taxes on that twice? Not only did you give a free loan, then you get penalized......) ... Well - the appeal on the series left for me as soon as the Ewoks showed their muppet little faces. Jar-Jar is the same thing - no value added and some serious harm for someone trying to get into the movie. I'm guessing Lucas can't understand that his fan base from the first movie actually grew up. It's a shame, it was a very cool story of good vs evil for (? parts 4 and 5). LOTR puts it completely to shame. That said, I'll still watch the last one. Nope, I still have to say you are oversimplifying (as people always do when their bias favors their own situation). My point is, once you have the basics, it depends on the individual's personal skills to advance. Here we agree. But not on the concept that an Arts degree has any impact on these personal skills over any other degree. That is pure bunk. Now, if you want to bin people up into nice little comfortable buckets and pre-judge their abilities based on that, then knock yourself out. I'll still take them one at a time. I've seen too many exceptions to every generalization like the one you're making to sit in judgement on an input that likely doesn't correlate to success one bit. If I had to make a generalization, I'd say that the technical types with excellent communication/sales skills seem to be the most successful and influential (not highest rank) in all the businesses I've been in. Usually, it comes down to confidence and intelligence and willingness to take calculated risks, (and really who they know) not degree or school. ... Everyone is different. I really liked kids. But didn't want any of my own. However, it's completely unfair to deny that if your wife wants them. So we had one. Most people advance based on ability to learn and attitude and general intelligence. There are many stupid exceptions to this rule. As a hiring manager, I have much less focus on degree type and gradepoint than the above. The people I've hired and recruited have all done better than the average with no exception. However, most of the pool of people I hire from are from the hard science background so I'm actually picking logical people with good attitudes. You've likely done better based on your personal abilities rather than your degree. However, the slam on the technical degree (as training rather than Education) is just an ignorant slam. ... Liberation of yourself is an internal thing, so I don't see the connection except as a very insecure or rebellious statement. tattoos, piercing, dreads can be a personal appearance choice - as such, there's nothing wrong there if the choice is based on just cosmetic or whim. But as an 'expression of my freedom' that's a pretty weak choice to make an external change to represent something internal. I'd rather my 'expression of my freedom' be represented by the choices I make and the actions I take. If you think that dreads is one of those choices, then that's ok for you, but to me it's pretty insubstantial. But live with the consequences and don't scream discrimination of the workplace disagrees. Frankly, though, it seems you are looking for a fight if you'd consider 'screaming discrimination' if the workplace disagrees. That's not adult freedom, that's a child's tantrum. There's a difference. Edit: I mean do it if you want to, not because you think you father wouldn't want you to. Get me? ... That would be fair as long as Florida and Illinois have the same number of electoral votes then they cancel each other out. As far as the President's economic proposals, he should have just stuck to his principles and stayed fiscally conservative. By trying, like Clinton, to take the other party's positions and get more of the center, he's just alienating his base. It works only for a democratic president because of what Lawrocket is always saying: that the typical dem is partisan regardless of the issue, but the typical republican can be swayed by logic and common sense (thus, the typ Republican can be convince to vote for a good guy dem, but a typical dem will vote for a crook dem just because he's under the party ticket). How's that for an oversimplified stereotyping? jab jab poke poke Edit: most of the lost/disenfranchised ballets just the ex-patriot ballets anyway. All those lost votes were certainly made up by letting felons and illegal immigrants vote. That should be plenty more votes for the Kerry. ...
