  1. We're down in April (21st - 25th) - currently reserving 30 hours of tunnel. I think we have Chromy and Lise coaching for those that want it. Lise is about as sweet a person as I ever met - she coached me on my first camp and I can say that she and Shannon taught me what little mantis I do know. I'm looking for just a lot of time, drills and sharing time with our better flyers. And maybe some basics coaching on block moves. Some of our newbies have asked me to share time/coach, but I think they are better served by the professionals. Heck, though, I can lay base and demonstrate/correct once the big dogs get them squared away. More time is more time. But if too many more people bail out, that 30 will likely be reduced. I'm bringing gear and plan to send a note to quite a few of the dz.commers and take a day at a DZ, also. It's been since 1989 since I've jumped in Florida. appreciate the support and also calling bullshit once in a while - it helps ... 2. yeah, Rusty spoke of that and was down about the whole 'legal' thing. I edited the last comment - maybe you can give some advice to cometchaser on how best to use his budget realizing he's very new. I'm assuming you're advocating 100% tunnel..... ... 3. Of course you're right, I'm just greedy about time and was speaking tongue in cheek. And for a beginner, a quarter hour at least gets them off on the right foot. My bad, I keep thinking of the tunnel in terms of 4-way training and not just basic skills training.... Rusty was my instructor at the last camp. He is fantastic. He should be on a dedicated team. Poor guy is spending what looks like a full weekend in the area, though, and 400 to 600 bucks will go away in the tunnel in a well planned afternoon. What to do the rest of the weekend? Edit - Actually, with only say, $500 bucks, what would you suggest CometChaser does? You've done this much more and I have zero experience in incorporating tunnel training into someone else's learning plan. (i.e., in being flip above, I spoke out of place). ... 4. There is a ton of excellent tailoring to be found all over the place in Thailand. I don't doubt that if you brought a jumpsuit (FF or RW) that they could build one as good as any. However, watch out - material type is important, thread type is important and sometimes it's hard to know what quality you're getting. I wouldn't have one built there unless is was a tailor you knew and could explain the requirements to. ... 8. It was an aside. So I digressed. But if tax policy is ineffective, then hopefully we don't 'roll back' anything and just reduce spending. ((Right now I don't think either party has it in them to do it - so the question is how fast do we slide down that crappy path)) Unfunded federal mandates - So the government is in our business/(and businesses) too much. I can agree with that also. ?? Unfunded mandates = social liberal/fiscal conservative ?? {{another aside - I'd still like to know how we are doing on the deficit as a percentage of GDP. Just too lazy to crunch the numbers. What's a good analogy of the deficit for a regular guy like me, my home mortgate? Credit card? what? you're the economist}} ... 11. Yup, I benefitted greatly from the tax cut. Wait, I'm not worth millions...... aside - One argument is the local and state govs increased taxes in response and we didn't gain on the personal level (but my take home did go up a chunk). Now, if the local and state governments jacked up their taxes in response to the Federal cuts,,,, How will any your dem candidates guarantee to get those more local governments to roll back their tax increases in conjunction with 'rolling back' the fed tax reduction???? 14. Yup - There is definitely a level of fitness needed to be comfortable with a "big tunnel holiday" of like 4 or 5 total hours time...... For some, even an advanced tunnel camp (hour and a half to two) puts them out..... And with that budget, it would be more fun to spend it at a DZ anyway. So I'm agreeing wholeheartedly with your first recommendation. I haven't met Rob, but Chromy is a great guy and good coach. ... 15. Disagree - The tax cuts were not wrong. There are theories that support tax cuts will produce more revenue by allowing more money in circulation to produce more taxable income rather than more tax on less income (i.e., generating a bigger pie to take the slice from). Are you a closet Keynesian (sorry about the spelling)? 2 - Agree - Increasing the bureaucracy is a mistake. A new cabinet post? Prescription drugs for free to a selected class of people? Steel tariffss? More money to the Arts? This admin and Congress should stop trying to buy Dem votes. They don't think that way. So I'm assuming you were a fan of Reagan then (starve the beast being his theory on government). I don't know if Bush could control these things, but he certainly proposed them and the congress approved. I think the tax cuts were a good idea, the increase in bureaucracy and many of the spending plan increases were not. However, I do believe that the spending increases would likely have been even bigger under Democratic control. (But a mix of Dem pres and Rep Congress might have been the best way to keep spending down. Which supports just tying up Government's hands and keep them out of our business as much as possible.) ... 16. An hour is not nearly enough for a new person's first trip to the tunnel. But with only 400-500 bucks, thats not going to get an hour anyway. And best to have a coach for that. So it would even be a little more. With that budget, I'd recommend some 2 way coached dives (at a DZ) so you can also get some fun factor in and stretch it out over the weekend...... ... Patriotism

Kallend teaches the hard sciences, not political science. I understand he is excellent at it. And some of the simple quizzes and insight even on this site bears that out. And I am sure he is professional enough to keep the two separated. I've never seen any indication he'd do otherwise. Let's keep off the personal attacks. ... 18. For some people, incorrectly seeing into the future is lying. Incorrectly interpreting from bad data is a lie. Using an economic theory which is flawed, is a lie. My company's vision statement is a lie because it says "we will be the most profitable in ...." instead of "if our plans work as theorized, we should be the most profitable in..." OH MY GOD, they should all resign and get sterilized. This is why politicians and now most anybody, waffles in statements, they get scourged when they can't absolutely predict the future. It's amazing scientists and engineers will build anything, because if it doesn't work, then they lied and should go to jail. It's amazing that these scientists and engineers' college professors teach them anything. Because if their students make a bad product, then they must have taught wrong and lied and should quit quickly before anymore harm occurs. No wonder it's so good to get a Liberal Arts degree, no responsibility just thinking about stuff and not setting a vision or making a decision. From now on, we can only hire perfect people for any job. The rest will have to go on welfare. John - Remind me to never offer to buy you a beer. Because if I die in a car accident on the way to the store to buy said six pack, I don't want you telling my family at the funeral that I was a lying SOB.

  21. Take a large bucket of water. Float a whole bunch of plastic skydivers on top. Pull the huge plug out of the center of the bucket's bottom. See how everyone gets drawn in and on top of each other and they drain down in a funnel shape. In a real dive, this is what might happen when someone gets below the formation and takes the airflow away from those on top. In big ways, it can get pretty dramatic. When newbies freefly, this is the natural state of the dive

Oh, one more though. Kallend might just support you here. He states that the hard science types (at his school) have more work and harder work. In my mind, that locks them up longer studying. Thus losing what I consider precious time to join clubs and be social and experience more life. That's a better argument, but then you'd have to take the assumption that those are much more difficult (or at least time consuming) degrees. Who's ego can handle that? ...
