It's a good point - we actually had this happen to our video guy three years ago and we felt TERRIBLE. The camera guy opens high (sometimes way higher than the rest of us - we kind of delay and mess around a little at breakoff), then we are typically looking for traffic below us. Since then, I always check for the ENTIRE team. However, not seeing the camera guy is a good excuse because of special breakoff considerations for him - but only once. Not really an improvement in the ankle support, toe and heel protection of a sandal now, is it? I'll always wear shoes from now on. Used to jump with Tevas all the time and I admit I enjoy the air, but the random 'solid' landing and running out on sandals just plain hurts. Also, it's harder to get a good grip on launches and climb out barefoot or in sandals. It's not worth it. I can put the sandals on while walking around, but not while jumping. ... Strange thread. I'll reply in general 1 - We have a place called Papa Murphy's (take and bake pizza, cookie dough....) It's the best. anyway - this whole thread speaks to customer service and this self superior attitude of many staff at these places (not about the customers at all). Customers do not live this stuff daily and have questions. Get over it. If you've heard it 20 times, it does NOT matter, it's the first time that customer asked it likely and they might be distracted or just not care and expect some of the details from the staff because that's THEIR JOB. playing jokes on customers, playing off their ignorance, it's bad form and cause for dismissal. That gas station post is completely out of line. I hope the driver was heads up enough to recognize the prank and contacted the owners. It can seriously hurt the business. I don't care if you are responsible for lives of hundreds of people or work a temporary minimum wage job, if you don't care enough to do it right, then quit and open up a spot for someone that does care. My wife didn't jump until our daughter got older, and might have to quit while our daughter is in high school also - but this is because of our need to make sure she gets attention and parenting during those times when bringing her to the airport every weekend isn't the best for her.... Nothing to do with outside people's opinions. Look at your family and friends (who also have kids)that say this - now which ones drive, ski, ride motorcycles, SMOKE, climb, etc? and point out the hypocrisy of their statements and that they come from a point of complete ignorance (zero knowledge) about this sport. Buzzing airplanes - I love that. We are parked about 2 miles north of a major interstate. Private pilots will fly right overhead because they can look out their window and see the interstate - they must be using roadmaps or something and never heard of GPS. Our pilot will chase them away every chance he gets. We have multiple planes and either do CrW at the end of the day, or stay off the windline as well during the day. No real issues so far. CrW mostly happens when the ceiling is below 10K so not as much interest in jumping when the Otter is here... ...
