4 or 5% is excellent nowadays (even with the generally low level of unemployment now), but it really depends on what salary you came in with. So the best way to see if you are paid fairly is to interview similar jobs and see what they would offer. If you are getting more than the market will bear, then a 0% raise is fair. If you are way underpaid, then 4-5% is poor. Most managers have x dollars for raises, so if you get more, someone gets less, so if you are stellar and everyone else is also stellar, you won't get much. You are in competition with your co-workers. Supply and Demand - they need to know that you can go elsewhere, so they must be competitive - but you must be ready to go if you aren't compensated fairly. That said, if you want to stay and want big kicks, you need to move up in the business. Promotions will get it faster. Edit: Talking about 'it' with your co-workers is one of the most terrible things you can do for your relationships with the co-workers and also for your managers. It only ever leads to someone being angry and resentful - NO ONE WINS ... I'll have to look it up, but a followup attempt by another gentleman got up to something like 120,000 but he had to ride the balloon down because his hatch malfunctioned and he couldn't get out. I believe he died from complications later as a result of the unplanned extended ride. Edit: Unless that followup was a second attempt by Col Joe himself. ... 1 - It's about individuals achieving regardless of where they started (royalty, aristocracy does not matter). And they do it without false help but earning as you go. 2 - It's about freedom, that takes us back to the self sufficient individual - it's the antithesis to socialism and communism. Teamwork is for the sake of the people on the team not putting down the individuals for sake of the team. In our teams, an individual can shine and it helps everyone and that person is not resented but emulated. 3 - It's about choosing to help each other, not having it mandated 4 - It's about respecting toughness, talent, creativity and intelligence it's a lot like skydiving - it's exactly like skydiving (It's also a lot like many people in other countries) ... We have quite a bit of time for Thurs- Sun (April 21-25 includes pro coaching for whatever you are looking for - individual or 4-way). We are looking for a commit for another 4 hours or so to ensure all the time is guaranteed against the reservations. You have zero info on your Profile so I don't know if you are local to Florida. If so, I'm thinking you might want to go in with our big group the previous week and also take advantage of the coaching. PM me and I'll give you the contact info for our organizer. ... Tore the ACL playing in a volleyball tournament over ten years ago - (bone/tendon/bone graft). This knee is now tighter/stabler than the other (that's good). But both the ACL and PCL? That bites. If I followed the advice of the Physical Therapists, it would have taken 14 months to recuperate. I instead followed the doctor's advice and was running through the woods in about 5 months (I can play tennis and do martial arts, etc now without a brace or sleeve - the biggest time to get rid of the sleeve was mental, not physical FWIW). With the PCL out too, that's big - hopefully someone here can more closely cover your injury. I'm certain full recovery is possible. But you need to listen to the health pros more than anyone else. Sometimes the theme from the Incredible Hulk gets in my mind. sniff - that was a sad story David Banner only wanted to get better and people kept picking on him. Oh, and one more thing. My insurance company (auto, home, property - I get health from work), invests the money they get and I get a dividend refund every six months and a very small premium - and they are one of the best companies in the US. If I gave twice that money to my government for the same insurance (I know, apples-property and oranges-health) I very much doubt I'd get any of it back and I know the service would be lousy. ... Your 'stretched a$$hole' is you paying that ($21,000 - $839 =) $20,161. We have private voluntary insurance to do that. When it's involuntary (taxes) it's the same as you walking up to your best friend, hitting them on the back of the head and stealing $20,161 from them every year. By that logic, a terminally ill person should be able to buy a load of life insurance right before he kicks the bucket - without the insurance company knowing. Top skydivers like this are class acts. I lived in Phoenix in 1990 and jumped at Coolidge (Skydive AZ just before the Eloy move). And if you are relatively new, it means even more - My example - With only 350 jumps at the time, one of my best memories is of Jim Hotze (Coolidge Fource - pre Airspeed, BC was on that team) walked up and put me in a 4-way with him and a couple others - I was the newbie in the group. One jump and I learned a ton, we did Star-Star and a couple randoms. It's still a pretty decent memory after all this time. That and 20 way team.. ... "rage" can be a righteous term in some circles and I don't like the term 'road rage'. I prefer "road tantrum" as it really describes the mentality better. If you really want to get into semantics, 'aggressive' driving is a good thing, not a bad thing - it should mean stopping when you are supposed to stop, going when you are supposed to go, signalling clearly, being clear and definitive about your actions. I think people really mean 'hostile' driving or 'confrontational' driving. Either way, big babies. Ditto for overly cautious types, that's just as dangerous in many cases. Pittsburgh was the worst for passive driving when we lived there. Example, people would stop when they have the right away and then try to wave us through our stop sign. Just go, now we both are delayed because you don't know the rules and the uncertainty they cause at each intersection can't be safe - oh, and the big hair is hard to see around. ...
