  1. BV - I entirely agree with your statement in that post (and, uh yes, it was written tongue in cheek, next time I'll put some icon in there to accept the hyperbolic intent of the mockery such as this one ). If you run back the replies string, it's obvious Kallend doesn't think that public servants 'should' have the right to request no recordings. As far as the judge forgetting to inform the crowd. That's right, it's his tough luck. However, courtesy by the reporter would have made this a non-issue regardless of the written law. And the articles also doesn't say the judge personally went in and took the tape recorder, someone on the security staff did. (A judge knowledgable in the law might have done the right thing here if he saw what was happening and stated that the reporter had a right to that tape since he didn't announce at the start his wishes. Then he could announce at that time he didn't want further recording and requested the reporter to honor that wish in spirit by erasing the first part too. But I don't even know if the judge knew about the event at all.) ... 2. No commuting, that was specious, but an influx of good workers into Bozeman may eventually bring business to that area so all of them can eventually enjoy a higher standard of living. While subsidizing the living expenses of people in an overpriced, overcrowded NYC will just make things worse. The best thing in the world for that dish washer might just be his decision to leave a dead end job in an economically dead town. If you find ways to subsidize his life, you are doing more damage than help. But at least you have the best intentions while you ruin life after life after life. ... 3. That's fine, John (big brother), you also noted that you made it through your PhD on scholarships and grants. Since the money came from somewhere (other citizens), therefore, it's ok to use technology to record everything you say, even if you don't wish it. But if you want to hold public servants to a different standard, you know, my trash collector is a public servant. Let's record everything he says when he's out in public. Even if he asks people not to. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

  5. I don't know how this works, but is it likely that someone other than Scalia messed up in setting the expectations for this reporter? Who's responsible to make the sure protocol is completely communicated? Don't we have some public speakers here or even a reporter or two on this site? ... 6. Disturbing that the reporter just wouldn't delete the tape in the first place out of politeness to the wishes of the speaker? Or disturbing that they erased the tape which 'appears' to have been made due to a confusion or miscommunication of the protocall? As above, this also wouldn't be an issue if the reporter would respect the wishes of the speaker by erasing the tape on request. Frankly, if any speaker does not wish pictures, recordings and the like, it should be contractual with the sponsoring organization, not the speaker - (i.e., the school should have been taking action to make sure the contract is fill rather than the speaker's "entourage") ... 10. At our company, less than 5% of our non-exempt employees feel like this. These particular employees are unhappy and bitter about life in general no matter what happens and are easily the least productive of the whole lot. You should get away from this company and find a position that you can happy doing regardless of whether it's a union shop or not. Sounds like you are very unhappy in your union job. ... 11. you do realize that's about 11K a year? Barely above the way too low poverty line for a single person. And about 60% of families below the poverty line have 2 or more working members. $20/hr x 40 hr/wk x 50 wk/year = $40,000/yr Edit: doesn't include overtime.... Did you know about a third of the people in the US below the "poverty level" have a house a car and a cell phone? (I'll find the link here somewhere..) Either our definition of poverty is way off what the rest of the world has, or your 60% is getting screwed over by the one third that's abusing the benefits.... ... 12. Well, they put out a pretty good magazine and send me a sticker every year (unfortunately, it is the SAME sticker every year). The magazine gets pretty old after a few years. I'd rather it was optional and we could substract the cost from the dues if we don't want it. For that matter, my wife also skydives so we get two copies every month. What a wasted of paper and postage for us to pay for that - and then twice. ... 18. Jessica - I like having the IC with the count. They have the hardest job as far as timing, so I prefer to give the timing responsibility (count) with the IC. However, sometimes it can be the other guy's (OC and Point) fault. If OC and Point are 'anticipating' the count instead of leaving with the IC, they can go a tad early - this also is worsened when the OC and Point don't present relative to the formation but 'just leave on go'. ((a good way to test this, when you feel late, does the point person sometimes nose underneath the front of the formation or on video just look flat instead of above on the hill? - If so, take this seriously, if not, I might just be raving here)) As OC, I don't leave on go. I read the count and leave based on where I want to be relative to the IC's hips (mainly). It's done wonders for us. Ditto for our point man and even tail can watch IC's hips and go with him (just lower). Previously, our exits were wonky with the IC too high and a very uncomfortable, almost floppy, hill - sound familiar? Now we can key almost instantly and there is little tension. As such, for most exits, another thing you can try is for the OC to not release until your hips are crossing the door's threshold. In this case, take a very rhythmic count and be aggressive in timing, but gentle in energy - just get your hips out the door already presented. When I jumped IC, I focused on being moving on set and just clearing my legs (read 'hips') into my presentation. It's pretty good for me and works even when I substitute as IC for local unfamiliar teams. lots of things to try - with the load of responses here I'm thinking that the RW forum is hungry for a new season and more questions I'll have a bunch too and soon. ... 19. I'm starting that practice of tying off the risers. Just relating and commiserating here and pointing out a similar time when I knew the pack just 'wasn't right' and paid for it. I'm sorry it hurts. Stay tough. Edit: Did you know that when a guy wears spandex under his rig (here in Minnesota it's another layer for warmth) it actually makes it easier for 'parts to shift and get under the leg strap? 21. Well, GFD noted above - "this is going to open weird" After my last hard opening (I'm taking in line stows and note to a friend, "These risers look about 4 inches uneven. Well, it'll open anyway" - then smack!!) - I'm repacking now whenever I see that - these ellipticals are not nearly as forgiving as the old canopies. Again, GFD, get well soon. I'm still trying to swing a company paid trip to San Jose and need more people to play with. I'll go ahead and let Iwan knee me in the chin again, but I'd rather not. ChopChop - You still in Orlando occasionally? If so, PM the phone number. We'll call when we go to the tunnel end of this month. Edit: Hookitt - I can't see the canopy in the picture, but at line stretch you are right that the left side is higher - for whatever reason. It's normal for the risers to stay even and not show uneven lines until stretch though. Ouch ... 24. Heisenberg is cool. He directly explains why our 4-way team scores lower whenever our cameraman falls on us during exit. I like religious discussions - they exemplify mankind's search for an external reason for being. I like non-religious philosophy too. It exemplifies mankind's search for an internal reason for being. Both paths can provide personal growth when they aren't abused. (I do prefer non-religious discussions and in this area, I'm pretty well aligned with BV's discussions). Funny the ramafications that gravity falls off with the square of distance rather than 1.9999 or 2.001 or whatever.
