We could move them to California, no one would notice. It doesn't matter, though, I believe Obama has asked them to do the census. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

ABSOLTIVELY - and my point is, you can coach 'em, and coach 'em, and coach 'em, but when it comes to climbout, those old habits are hard to break, and someone will always do it sloppy unless you really have a well trained team. And not just big ways, I've been on 3way Freefly where one person is a bit nervous and they'll completely block the door and stick the 3rd person inside. Little stuff adds up. summary - at boogies especially, you gotta plan for this and have some margin built in ... I absolutely LOVE this. On our second 12 way attempt, I told the group we'll have a faster climbout, and be ready. 1 - the biggest guy on the load got out in the worst/slowest possible way (rotating out the door instead of stepping out sideways into his slot). There wasn't really enough room for him to do that. (correct exit to a tight floater slot = left side to the door, step out directly sideways. Do NOT rotate out the door counterclockwise, thus smacking your rig and hackey against the floater in front of you first, and then against the guy behind you as you try to insert yourself into your slot from the outside.....) 2 - we were long as a result 3 - one of my divers was late and complained that he wasn't ready for the count - you really just can't win no matter what ... Designed for skydiving? absolutely no Designed for the skydiving flight pattern and aircraft use? yes not designed for large groups? I'd say I'm not thrilled with that low wing on 2 way sit or HD dives either. We have a quite different launch for HD flowers with this plane than with otters. You don't want to conk yer head. (it's designed for the flight plan by apparently non-jumper aero engineers - high climb rate, short takeoff, quick turnaround, rapid up and down - good for the flight pattern, not so much for exits and air for the jumpers, that's the tradeoffs) still a pretty nice plane, but for jumpers? Low wing that comes right to the front of the door.... the lower running board is nice to get foot room, but it does make a 4-way team have to adjust presentation and timing..... a low horizontal stabilizer????......etc etc etc. I see the design reasons for these things based on flight operation criteria are pretty clear, but they are specifically "not" jumper friendly. The Twin Otter is still the standard. That said, for our DZ, the PAC is the perfect plane for the size of the business, and I'm glad we have one. I just wish we had the Otter on the weekends when it's busier - for purely selfish reasons. However, it's really nice to be able get a load off when it's not crowded too - for purely selfish reasons. ... absolutely - though I don't consider "deterrent" to be an aspect of justice, but more an opportunity of questionable return on investment - with the only cost is a reduction of justice in the forms of unequal punishment for some that are used as "examples". I get very upset when a judge says he wants to make an example of someone. It's an alarm that he's going to arbitrarily act in an unfair/unequal manner. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3602856#3602856 So? Joe or Frank. At the rate this admin is moving, it won't be long before any perceived 'right wing' justices will be forced out of SCOTUS and replaced with BHOs henchmen... your call Pops - I don't recall any specific requirements in the SIM for PAC loading for a D license. But everyone should have their opinion. I'd not castigate a TM that has jumped Otters and Cessnas for 10 years and suddenly the DZ brings in a PAC. But if he started to move early to the tail on during highly loaded exit lineup, I might mention it to him on the ground before screaming to the DZO for his head. I know you wouldn't be screaming before any other consideration. You're a lot more reasonable than that, and a lot more experienced. edit: It constantly amazes me what people don't "know", but it constantly amazes me more what people just assume others "know" and how they are ready to strongly act on those assumptions . ... Here's an exercise: 1 - Joe sees an old person getting mugged - recalling his grandmother who was killed by another mugger, he suddenly "blanks out" and the next thing he knows is he's kneeling over the mugger and beating the guy to to a pulp until his friends have to pull him off of the mugger. 2 - Frank sees an old person getting mugged - remembering his grandmother who was killed in a mugging, he thinks, "that's not right" and he goes over and knocks the mugger down - maybe he has to fight the mugger into submission until the mugger stops resisting. Then he simply detains the mugger until the cops come and take the mugger away Both cases, the old woman was protected Both cases, the mugger went to jail Which one, or both, is more "just" I'd contend, that Frank is someone I admire. And Joe, frankly, constitutes a possible threat to other law abiding people in the future, and actually should stand trial for excessive use of force. Seems to me, some people would put Joe up on a pedestal - that's sad to me. ... what's interesting is I would advocate killing the criminals - you call that "turning the other cheek" The only difference is I'd do it for the sake of justice only, without succumbing to one's passions - So the question is - is one strong enough and brave enough to do what needs to be done when you see it needs to be done (before you let 'emotion' and revenge push you past a limit? or do you have to be 'overwhelmed with outrage and emotion' before you act in an out of control fashion?...... I think justice can only be administered by the first type. The second type are just vigilantes and another type of criminal - regardless of their intent. this is a good discussion on cultural differences, but one we already have had with others a few times in SC I hope your family comes through this unscathed and in a better situation when it all finishes. ... You're confusing revenge with justice. That's the point of your comment being out of sort with "civilized world" Cleanly killing the criminals, dispassionately, and with the goal of it being to remove the threat they represent to the rest of the species allows us to protect the rest of the world, without becoming the 'next' set of butchers. Seems if you want to be on the side of civilization, removing the threat without succumbing to ones anger, outrage, etc.... to the escalation of punishment to torture - (clean death or lifetime incarceration) is the only civilized way to deal with it. At times, a measure of civilization is when the people are able to act correctly despite the urging of their emotions. I have a lot of issues with many of the stated Persian concepts of justice, I think it's completely confused with revenge and unreasonable self righteousness. Maybe this is on purpose, as a more brutal punishment can act as deterence. But that's another topic as deterrence isn't justice, it's a social/behavioral attempt at manipulation. The French beheading their king? I don't find the French of that era as very civil, but beheading is not a torture (unless you lower the blade VERY slowly) - it's a rather efficient and humane way to cause death - considering the alternatives. What I hate about beheadings isn't the act, it's the crowd reactions and cheering. If someone is be sentenced to death because they represent a significant threat to the rest of us, then it should just be done quickly and clinically - without display or emotions. Public executions are pandering to crowd emotions which I believe is counter to teaching justice. ...
