    It really is a "you do it first" faceoff. But I don't trust the "tax more now and spend less later crowd" AT ALL they've lied on that too many times (every single time) I don't trust the "spend less now and tax more later crowd" either. But at least I can monitor them for when they start to fail - and it definitely moves us in the right direction. go with the other guys, we move in the wrong direction from the start and only hold empty promises ...     thanks!!! The problem still applies - we have to do both, and both in a big way - How do we guarantee they will do both? We know if they reduce spending, then spending is reduced. The budget is published. BUT, every time we increase revenue, they just spend it, and a little bit more. Leaving us more in the hole than ever. Proposals are "let a spend a shit ton now, and we'll gradually reduce spending over the next 20 years" - do you believe that? Seems to me, said it before, I don't trust them to cut spending in any way. They need to demonstrate it and stick with it - only then will I trust them to take more from everybody to pay down the debt. But, at least that gets us to both solutions...... (I'm not so sensitive to it, so much as cynical to it....) ... The biggest roadblock right now is that the Democratic party totally refuses to cut spending dramatically - the reality is that we simply have to. on a very minor note - We also HAVE to raise more revenue. (I'd print in in smaller font if I know the settings) As you said, only one or the other won't work ...     Yes, some self stylized god of what's right and wrong will decide if it adds value to society and tax it accordingly. As you note, there won't be any analysis or thought (except for show/PR purposes), it'll be completely subjective based on who's in charge and how many donations they get from the AFFI/TI lobby.     I'm not religious, but I do see that religion can promote (but not be the only source of) a moral and social basis for people to get along and feel more happy and confident in their lives. But, I suspect the reduction of the (quietly and truly) religious population isn't the cause, but rather a symptom of society developing more and more isolated and dispairing individuals. That said - I always consider "organized" religion to be a great way to completely undermine any societal benefits that a belief based in "being good to each other and always maintaining hope in life" could actually bring to the world. this really is a conflicting statement to what those values are really 'supposed' to mean ...     and, many schools require internships or co-ops in order the graduate I wonder how much the schools get in kickbacks to provide the free labor. (I think the kids do get a practical experience benefit from it, but I just don't trust the educational institutions to exploit it anyway) ...     another good point Adding complexity just because someone has a subjective opinion on the value of another's worth..... it's just nuts. The whole concept makes me very sick to even think of what's behind it - let alone the consequences of such a system and opportunities for huge abuse - let alone the need for a very complex and expensive tax collection division. simpler is better - this is so in the direction of both fiscal and social destructiveness, it's hard to say where to start to comment ...     absolutely. and inheritance. and gifts. etc etc etc But I still take exception to "actually work for a living" and "never have to put in an honest day's work" comments - It's just another way of saying you've decided for others what's worthwhile or not. I'm sure you can find lazy investors/teachers/firemen etc and you can also find really hard working of the same. Heck, I can do it just amongst my personal acquaintances for those three jobs. ...
