Democrat or Republican? Voters say, Fuck both parties
rehmwa replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
because it had the potential to go somewhere. A group that wanted to talk about fiscal responsibility gets traction because it's a great idea and needs to happen. then; - The soc ial activists from one party work to hijack the movement. - The social activists from the other party work to falsely define the movement in negative ways with social definitions We already have two parties that are defined by social/emotional spending philosophies that cater to greedly power hungry narcisists. it's pretty clear where the real problem lies - isn't it? ... that's silly - you have implicit here that the faithful have an obligation to prove anything. Only the weakly faithful see a need for that and they are poor representatives if they feel that way (see Joe's post for a healthy example rather than the unhealthy ones you respond to). faith is defined as there cannot exist any proof. So they are on equal ground as atheism in the neither side has zero need or obligation to prove anything. ... This is excellent, and the only posture that a faithful person can take that I consider sincere, and real. Very view self proclaimed 'faithful' will (or is capable of) stand up to your honest and real belief. And, when the faithful person understands this aspect of 'belief', then they aren't "warping" their understanding, they are just accepting their belief for what it is - a belief without proof. And, the point of there being a 'basis' of belief existing. there isn't a "exists or not" discussion. By definition, it CAN'T exist - any 'evidence' is simply rationalization by the faithful. And that's ok. I respect that honesty, and I respect the effect that their faith can have on them. I'd take someone like this (truly faithful for the right reasons) as a neighbor long before others that just claim it as "truth" (contradiction) and protest too much. It's very analogous to the difference between a 'righteous' man vs a 'self-righteous' man...... ... I agree with this completely. And also note that one sided fundamentalism isn't just restricted to religious nuts, there are equivalent nuts in a lot of areas that deserve a similar approach. as for the lead post - go ahead and defund PP. they should be able to run as a private org. We should defund a lot of this stuff. It's not the government's business - gov should enforce the law and stay out of paying for the choices of individuals at the expense of the rest of us. Keep abortion legal - pay for it yourself. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Is there a connection between Islam, Judaism and Christianity
rehmwa replied to BIGUN's topic in Speakers Corner
Absolutely - spirituality, notions of "karma", belief in a diety. This is all the same thing. So it's really out to lunch when someone mocks or dismisses one, and then lays claim to the others as if it's fact. Actually, it's just entertaining. Just another form of "your belief is nuts, but MINE is perfectly reasonable." as for atheism - I understand taking the position, but I just don't see the point of making the effort. I think the position that it's rational to either believe or dispute a subjectively defined system is a bit goofy. Similar in goofiness when religious types say their 'belief' has 'proof'. anyway, old hat ... How come you never hear either party talk about this? Drives me nuts. Raise taxes on the weathy. Cut spending by 10% CUT not cut the increase. Every penny of the new taxs goes to pay down the debt. A - Raise taxes on everyone. Everyone. B - Actually cut spending by more than 10% (this is the part they can't bear to do, so all the rest is pointless). really cut, not shellgames or futile gestures. pay down debt with excess - provided provided that A and B are big enough to actually overbalance the budget where we'd have excess B is the tough part - it's political suicide A is the tough part - it's political suicide ... $21,700 for a family income is pathetic. Send the wife out to work or get a better/second job. Clearly more income is needed to maintain the lifestyle. Sure, the wife goes out and adds another $20,000. Then the family decides that's a great reason to increase the spending by another $30,000 yay, now it sucks more In the end, it's that $385 that we should all be ashamed of. ... Quit being so partisan, Bill. you fix a deficit by cutting spending you 'pay for' a tax cut by using the cut to motivate a spending reduction somewhere else as a response - you don't just put it off (borrow more), or push the load elsewhere (more taxes elsewhere) - that won't work since neither party knows how to take down the spending line, then tax cuts are futile - "starve the beast" doesn't work if the beast won't let himself get leaner neither fixing the deficit, nor tax cuts, will ever by productive (or frankly ever happen long term) without a philosophy of minimal spending as long as you have two major parties dominated by social issues and the accumulation of power, then that philosophy is just, frankly, impossible. ... Reasonable cost expected for 1 hr coached in tunnel
rehmwa replied to jtfreefly's topic in Wind Tunnels
Negotiate it specifically with the coach from a wind tunnel. In the end, the combined cost is all you are worried about and if you arrange coached time with a coach that is able to negotiate the tunnel price directly with his employers, you might end up with a win-win for both student and coach. This might also work with coaches that don't work at a tunnel. But I'd try to work it by focusing on the important part first - finding a very good coach you resonate with, and then work together to see what you can arrange. ... The gym management should know if it's driving business away. I'd have no issue telling them. It personally drove you away from the gym. If you hear about violent attacks in the neighborhood, then that's the time to notify to cops as a potential cause/source. But if no crimes are committed, then is it any of your business? So I'd have no issue be reactive about this, but it's a bit more difficult to advocate a proactive notification until something actually happens (this is likely a very hot discussion point for some - to each their own) You seem to be considering a lot of violent responses just because of something you saw someone do to themselves. you got a little rage yourself you need to deal with? Frankly, if it's such a big deal to you: stay a member inform the club keep you eyes on the users and, the second you see them turning violent, then tell the cops, and step away taking any of this into your own hands or the hands of your military buddies - is frankly a more asshole position than anything I've read so far on this thread, though ... I don't think military personnel that are overseas simply exposed to solely military issues. They are over there in aid and rescue capacity, they meet and teach medical personnel, they use time off and explore local culture and meet the children and the citizens of other cultures. Who really gets to actually learn about the foreign cultures in all aspects better? Skydivers that travel to boogies? effete snobs from urban cities that go visit restaurants in Paris and London and then claim to be uber-travellers? I'd give the nod to peace corp members, and missionaries, and others that actually get down and dirty with the foreign populace. Military people meet that description pretty well. ... lol, obviously in your haste in trying to slam me, you didn't read the whole quote. When sombody states that, on foreign policy, they trust the opinion of servicemen and women more than anyone else's, it is a fair question to ask. Pretty sure that establishment is made up of service men and women. no, I read the whole thing. It wasn't a slam (I like your attitude, it's direct), though it was irritating to see you extend that comment way out line - and clearly on purpose 1 - A statement of opinion that he considers the servicemen to be 'best' qualified over others has a good basis considering that many travel quite extensively and see everything in other cultures over just the tourists see. Agree or not, it's a fair comment. 2 - As for the "establishment" vs "individuals that serve", if you don't see (or want to see) the distinction, I don't want to waste time explaining it to you, those thing degenerate into just a 'who's going to win some pointless semantics game. But I don't consider that pointing out that we should hear and respect the opinions of the guys on the ground to be even close to equivalent to claiming that the leadership of the military should dictate policy. That's big stretch and intentional misread. even for you. I really just wonder where you planned to go with that. if anywhere.
