Some folks aren't going to see the ironic intent of your joke. It's only good for those that do anyway, and those that don't, it's too painful to explain - one side will explain/rationalize why I'm only wrong about their favorite party. And then the other side will take their turn. All very serious and earnest. on a separate note: though - stating 'national ____world' is bit of a mis-write. maybe with nitpickers can be entertained for a while if they like..... something for everyone here ... Thank you! I tell my clients this all the time. I just did not know it had a name. I'd still attribute more to "tactical obtuseness" over "malice" or "stupidity" any day. I expected you to play the "corpse man" card here. Gingrich wanted ‘open marriage’ with both wife and mistress
rehmwa replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
I gotta say, after a few years of marriage, you would have to have a pretty good idea if she's gonna play ball before you roll that option out. well, a good indication you need a mistress is when she doesn't "play ball" enough to keep you happy......one would expect she'd welcome the vacation if she's not into playtime ... I suspect Santorum actually winning is true. Iowa is the perfect micro-cosm of the national political world. They always picks the worst nutjob in for either party. (i.e., the one most defined pushing the social definition of each party's fringe). They really don't even focus on the fiscal types at all. It's church vs socialist and nothing in the middle. they'd love speaker's corner ... however, I do think Paul would provide a budget anyway 4 years wouldn't be enough to change spending habits - I think if we got a truly sincere fiscal conservative in office (if any really exist in a system that exercises power through spending) that the congress would just batten down the hatches and weather that storm - rather than actually choose to change behavior ... I hope my effective tax rate will be 15% one day!
rehmwa replied to shah269's topic in Speakers Corner
I good with that. A flat rate that EVERYONE pays. All sources of income taxed at that rate. After a settling in period, the market then picks winners and losers - any type of "encouragement" (such as targeted deductions, lower rates for investments, etc) are just hidden subsidies. mortgage interest deduction - subsidy for housing market 401k's essentially a subsidy for wallstreet 15% tax on investment income (vs full income tax) essentially a subsidy for wallstreet payoff to solyndra? essentially a subtle hidden subsidy to solyndra - ok, maybe not so subtle no reason for that - government shouldn't be picking winners and losers - the market should ... Sex ed should be taught in biology cless, just like the function of other body parts are taught in biology class. The genitals are not evil. Deciding not to teach kids about their parts is taking on a social issue, not the other way around. I suspect he's talking about birth control, sexuality, and social/political aspects of human sexuality, not just biology So it seems you and rush then agree that it would be best to delete all the portions of a sex ed class that don't relate directly to anatomy and biological function? and that does make sense to just restrict to biology and health the basic - here's how the parts work and here's how reproduction occurs - class dismissed ... I don't disagree with you, especially at turbine DZs where "the regulars" can make a lot of jumps per year. But I think you'll agree that are still a lot of smaller, one-Cessna DZs, where a lot fewer jumps per year are made (especially up North), where out of necessity they "grow" their instructor staff by nurturing their students to stay and be regulars, and their regulars to stay through attaining their D licenses; and then once they get their Ds, they turn them into instructors. For those type of DZs, waiting until people accrue about 1,000 jumps until they become instructors just might not be practical. We're on the same page - some environments do enable 'maturing' of the skydiver much better than others. Short version of my comment (IMHO by default) - today, we are advancing flying skills faster than ever, but maturing the jumpers into self reliant and responsible jumpers a lot slower. And we need to consider that. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

I really doubt the student would be fooled - I really doubt a DZ would be able to hide the fact of video on the first jump (1 - it's a sales point so silly not to communicate it; 2 - much of 1st jump business is word of mouth). as for stratostar's application - this is a camera that is placed on the student, the instructor operates it, etc etc etc - I don't see it complicating the student's experience any more than the radio in any case - this is a much different issue than a newbie buying and intentionally using and operating the camera themselves - this type of application of a camera has be debated in a completely different light than our normal discussion. so the normal knee jerk of 'no camera for any reason' is obstructive to a fair review of the concept of an on board camera PROS - I think it would be MUCH less distracting than having a separate camera flyer out in front of an AFF Cat A; you always get the shot; it doesn't take another slot on the plane CONS - a separate camera flyer can get out of eyeshot if he's a distraction; the outside video is infinitely better for review or anything constructive to teaching; this is just one more thing for the instructor to turn on and then gather up later ... to be fair, banks also invest, and loan. it's not just a futile 'lock box' the only way money doesn't continue circulation is when it's physically locked up, stuffed in a mattress, buried in a container in the ground, etc I don't know anybody at any income level that does that, but sometimes it seems smarter than spending it or investing it (sometimes) ... In today's world, I'm not a big fan of people becoming instructors with less than a 1000 or 2000 jumps. 1 - big DZs and big airplanes takes away a LOT of the personal responsibility that jumpers had when they needed to spot, mix it up with various skills, help newbies because they had to, work with the pilots, hang out and get to know the experienced people and why they survived 2 - So many skip becoming VERY proficient in belly work and focus on single disciplines that aren't as useful for teaching - and the attitudes that go with it 3 - people go to "Coaching" early for the jump credit and pay instead of because they love "coaching" 4 - skipping early to go-pros, skipping early to small canopies, I think maturing (attitude, not mechanical proficiency) in this sport takes a LOT longer than it used to {{maybe this is just the summary of my points}} 5 - there are so many disciplines, a good instructor should really be familiar with multiple disciplines - (good at a discipline is like 1000 jumps dedicated - EACH) 6 - tunnels get people skilled faster, but that doesn't shorten the experience one gets over time 7 - short exposure to watching new people learn means you tend to teach from only your own experience - this is short sighted, people make the same mistakes for different reasons. If you only have experience with one cause, you do a disservice to a student that is having his problem for a totally different reason than you did. I sound like an old timer, but, frankly, I love the tunnel, I am proficient in multiple disciplines, I do love to teach, I do love to surf my canopy. and I do think the best way to be a good instructor that actually understands and cares about teaching just plain can't really be done "fast" - it takes numbers, it also takes years - and, actually once you get a rating, your learning curve just starts (as I'm learning) of course, if one just wants to be a cookie cutter instructor and chunk out customers on the production line, then you can likely get there in a year or two if you push it. Just follow the progression. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Almost sounds like a decent argument for a flat rate, with; no deductions, no exceptions. Don't be silly. With that type of mindset, it would also reflect in other areas - I we had those types of cosmetic legislation in other areas, people would be complaining about jobs and technology going overseas too. no worries, that's why we hire people to make these decisions, they never make mistakes just to get 'feel good' votes
