  1. actually, I'd say it would make the case better if he was wearing the costume on any other day than Easter Sunday or Halloween ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  2. If you say so. I wouldn't. Don't be so hasty....have you checked the old guy's Youtube channel yet? Might be some weird videos on there, y'know. maybe a vid of him wearing an Easter Bunny costume.... ... 3. same philosophy RW - Break to track at 3500 - 4000, and pull by 2500 FF - Break to track at 4500, and pull by 2500 when doing RW video - I dump when the team breaks (usually 3500 or 4 depending on the team) Tandem vid - I view much of their deployment and get away and open when I feel clear - (usually 3500 - 4000) Tandem - I don't haul meat AFF/bigger ways, etc - When I'm clear, 2K to as much at 4K - Unless the organizer assigns an altitude, then I try to follow the rules as best I can and stay safe and, there is also such a thing a dumping WAY too high (IMHO) - for licensed skydivers - for normal and uneventful dives (When canopies opened faster, I was usually comfy anywhere above 2000. When I switched to my Stilettos, I certainly noticed immediately, that I had to add another 500 feet to my old habits.....) ... 4. For SS If some portion actually accrued directly to the employee only at payout time - maybe even privatized. Say in proportion to the the personal contribution. And some portion was not - say the employer match. And THAT portion was paid out against a means tested table. maybe that would be "fair" ... 5. I'll bet that's not the answer he was expecting...... 6. Funny how your scenarios always assume highly trained martial artists, and gun owners that just 'bought a gun and stuck it in a pocket'...could you just maybe be going a little 'imagining' of your own? yup - just like comparing a "little old lady" with "Someone that is carrying a weapon for self-defense has likely trained to respond to a threat before it's within arm's reach. They do Tueller drills and practice moving off the line of attack. They do it over and over, until it's automatic." Frankly, the little old lady in my cartoon bubble won't practice at the Range and "twilly drills" over and over. But I doubt she'll be a black belt in anything either. I just hope she can yell really loud and that the people around her aren't a bunch of cowards. ... 7. You guys are being dorks - you both are saying that you should be prepared and that whatever it is you are trained in is likely the best response. then it's just a bunch of arguing and dick measuring about what did you personally would choose to train on ... 8. My bigger concern is the SOP for this administration. They announce a cut of X - the REAL cut is less than X (by a lot) or actually an increase that's rationalized as a cut. 13. maybe the tax code should just get the hell out of 'favoring' anything and just tax the income that citizens generate in any imaginative way they can and let the market take care of it Why do you hate the elderly? my side hurt from you making me laugh - you'll hear from lawyer now ... 15. I would think just the profits are true income. You invest $100 and, when you sell, you get $150, then you have $50 of income - tax it just like you made it digging ditches. So would you apply the same tax rate to retirement income? After all, it's investment income, too. why don't you just assume that when I've said tax 'all types' income the 'same' about fifty different times in 4 different threads, that I mean it in this philosophical discussion. then you can tell me either: I'm cruel and heartless to "insert special group here" people. or; that I don't understand just how complicated ((the government purposely and needlessly designed)) the tax code and I just don't understand why "insert special interest group" NEEDS to be treated unequally for the sake of the mankind. ... 18. Tax ALL types of income the same. I think we actually should move in that direction and it will affect the rich, the poor, the middle class (of course it will, even it were only applied in a sloppy patchwork to even just one group like the "rich"). We need to realize, that all the 'special' considerations have been applied across the spectrum of taxpayers and each and every one is Keynesian (how's it working out so far?) and each and every one would likely have been fine without. But now we are stuck with them. yes, I love my mortgage deduction, yes, I love my 401K and my daughter's 529 college fund, etc etc etc. but, no one has the balls to totally revamp the system, so to slowly clean up the code would take a very long time it's pretty unlikely, that's why this discussion, to me, is likely interesting, but moot. Sure, they'll hit some scapegoat with a big change, but it'll be a small group directly hit and then the shit hits the fan when the consequences propagate to everybody else. short answer - I'd LOVE a flat tax RATE on everybody, that starts with the 1st dollar and finishes with the last dollar. With no deductions, no subsidies, no penalties, no special rates regardless of how the money was collected - nothing nada, zilch I also wonder how many people complaining about the 15% cap gains rate are paying 0% on their tip or cash income????? it is a skydiver's site ... 21. see????!!! SEE!!!! First off - the government taxes "unrealized gains" - in otherwords, their greed for this money ("how dare these people "HIDE" their income in investments, we NEED that tax money for the CHILDREN") caused them to devise a way to tax zero income mistake one and THEN, instead of just fixing it, they go and create a 'special' category of income and tax it differently it's ridiculous and unnecessarily complicated and the code is full of all this kind of stuff and today's envy arguments are setting up this exact scenario again I'd love to just trash the entire system and start from scratch. It's pure idiocy. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
