  1. why only vets? why does Obama get to pick winners and losers? why not just get out of the way and let the best workers get the jobs? (I'm a vet - but I'm really sick of the weekly announcement: "we're giving tax breaks/setting up a program/etc/etc/etc to ensure (inset this week's special interest group) get jobs/benefits/assistance") I thought the president's job was to advocate for CITIZENS, not play to different favorites every week ... 2. straight from Dune - maybe he's the new Shiite Budhislamic Zenshiite Orange Catholic Navachristian in any case - we can't have a president that talks to some mythological father figure for advice next thing we know, he'll start using crystals and use the term karma all the time ... 3. Seriously, do we really need a president that says he 'talks to God' and one that thinks God is telling him what to do? ((apparently, there's a big enough of an ignorant voting block, that any politician is willing to play the old "God Card")) ... 4. ...all subjects, scientific, philosophical, religious civic...everything. Anything less than that is brainwashing kids to only know and believe whatever it is that you want them to know and believe. Simple as that. Some of you guys sound just like the brainwashers. "I don't want kids to know anything except what I choose!" *shaking head* You guys whining about . . . You guys wanting to. . . . I can't tell if you think I'm one of "you guys" here I'm just saying that advocating for or against any religion is not the role of the (public) schools - it's the role of the parents. and also, the parents can also decide the exposure to their kids as they see fit I choose to provide any and all information to my kid about any and all religions she wants to ask about. Of course, my bias is "skeptical and amused, but tolerant of other's choices" - but, I also don't consider it any of my business how my neighbor teaches their kids - even if I disagree. the exception is if they abuse the kid and use it as an excuse - then my objection is the abuse, not the religion as such anything fact (rather than belief) based? sure, the school should provide all the pertinent data. anything that's really more theory, (but not necessarily on the philosophy side), like economics, or social behavior, or government - then the school should also expose, but be very specific that it's theory, not fact short answer I think parents be responsible for their kids - period. If they pass on their biases and beliefs, that's fine - if a stranger tries to do that, that's wrong. ... 6. thank goodness - I've been waiting on pins and needles for people to start Dowding clips from speeches out of context and having partisan cows based on strawman arguments - thus resulting in semantic pissing contests on Speaker's Corners with zero content or real discussion it's about time BTW - Did you all know that Obama is "so in love" with dildo shaped objects like microphones? Is this the kind of pervert we want in the White House? We can link the video if anyone wants it. ... 8. If someone handed me $5M and I turned it into $10M - then I'd call that a personal success. If I turned it into $2M, then I'd call it something else - either a REALLY great few years and some outrageous parties and vacations (personal success) - or a financial fiasco (personal fail). 10. I read the entire point - my inference is that you were advocating that the schools be responsible for providing a varied exposure to religious philosophies since you clearly don't trust the parents to provide anything but emphasis of their own personal beliefs. If I interpreted you incorrectly, please clarify, I'm open to it - it's more productive than just being upset because I was saving bandwidth by only referencing part of your post. In return, I'll consider it openly and refine my angst to those that truly do advocate that and not lump you in with them. I'll even buy you a beer. ... 11. That's the problem. no it's not - raising their children is the responsibility of the parents. This can only be trumped in the case of abuse. And equating the indoctrination of a personal moral and belief system is NOT abuse. just because you disagree with the philosophy, doesn't mean you can superseded the parent's wishes in something of this nature - that is so arrogant and intolerant as to be just ridiculous. I'm very anti-organized religion. But in no way would I ever advocate taking my neighbors kids and forcing them to a belief in violation of their parent's wishes. ... 14. So the media should determine what they think is best and then give the public only the information which works towards that goal? Isn't that what they do now? 16. just one example for line shrinkage 1 - steering lines shrink pretty faster relative to other lines 2 - if they shrink too much, then the canopy is kept from full flight 3 - less than full flight = less energy from the flare 4 - new steering line are longer allowing full flight so the flare is MUCH improved that's just one part of the lines - let alone talking to the trim of the canopy, etc etc etc Simplifying the OP "Do lines affect canopy flare?" is pretty much the same as "Does the shape of a wing affect it's flight?" ... 19. It's just fiction. But I thought these shows used some serious fact checkers also. Lessons learned? If you want to kill someone and leave no evidence, you might want to do your own homework rather than rely on what you learned from TV. At least that's what I took away from it. as for the show - I suspect there's a real discussion topic there. Seriously - a donor has ZERO responsibility for the offspring........ZERO - but since some people clearly will not be able to make that link (or will refuse to), anyone that does donate should make sure they do it with a group that completely eliminates any and all records of who they are. ... 21. At least that wasn't illegal. ...oh wait! they started a fire inside a public building. I'm sure that broke some law. Maybe not (California, you know!) I'm assuming the farther left the society, the more laws there are. So it's likely, that one might be able to start a fire inside a public building in California. First - you have to apply for the proper permit - supported by the appropriate environmental impact study, releases from EVERY single special interest group attesting they will not be made 'uncomfortable' by the fire, under consideration, that every attempt to make sure all other groups also get to use your fire. Certainly, you will have to provide a separate fire for anyone that asks for one (with the appropriate environmental statement approved and filed for each), or at least a sizable donation to the local, state, and regional democratic party headquarters. all in triplicate Or, in Cali, you could just go in and start a fire if you are an actor or actress. ... 25. Do you have any basis for this, or are you just trying to impress some pretty anti-US female liberal arts and philosophy grad with your amazing sophistication. I've been to Singapore and that culture seems to match the US a lot more than video of what I've seen in Afghanistan. So I'm no expert. I wonder what people who've been to both places would think? your other comments seem to wallow in the same bias ("whipping blacks" "they'll start shooting cops"????)
