  1. this ^, a quick look for traffic is needed and can be done as the first person is exiting..... if the groups are getting "pissed" though, then they should grow up. A calm talk about exit separation once on the ground is better than some crybaby whining about it after the fact. Or, worse, pissing and moaning about it behind people's backs. exit separation is controlling the time between "go"s, people should count seconds sometime and see how long it really takes - big groups on normal days should just start climbing out asap - rarely do they take less than 15 seconds anyway. Doesn't matter the discipline. I've seen super long counts and dumb breathing things from every discipline in the book. but if the groups behind you start screaming.... stop. Take off your helmet, and ask them if they see a plane or if something is wrong. They should shut up. If they don't, this will make sure they do next time. not this - train however you want to train ... 3. Hate the 'shake', always have. IC and OC need eye contact - everyone else better damn well be ready. Nothing like a big jostling move when the others are balanced on the edge of a moving aircraft. It was a bit of a joke around here as we had a team with a climbout and count like this.... weird series of shakes and breathing (while flying past the spot) look out again eyeballs (while flying past the spot) tighten leg straps (while flying past the spot) slow and tedious climbout eyeballs (did I mention the green light has been on for a while now?) breathe/pause shake, shake, pause up shake, pause up again down, shake pause suddenly go maybe I'm exaggerating...... actually - we did have on team with a weird shake, pause, count thing going on.... the standing joke was that the OC was the only one that knew the count, everyone on his team would just stare in terror at his hips and try to leave when his hips left (we do this) last grips are IC - eye contact with OC (OC has the count, already checked with Camera) OC lays left leg way out in the wind - pause/calm ready (out) set (in) GO! big motion so the camera sees it and the OC gets a strong forward and up/out launch - IC anticipates and works to get a tiny bit ahead of it - everyone else does their job ... Well, in the context of 2003-2008 under bush, I'd say an awful lot of jobs were created through things post 9/11: TSA, military, contracts, manufacturing, etc, etc. true, Bush was a very effective Liberal ... 7. Yes. Good fiscal policy is a small, but important, aspect of good governance. Responsible policy in other aspects of government is also necessary. I agree - frankly, what you talked about (going over a little, then going under a little... year to year.... would be equivalent to a balanced budget in my mind.) But even when we can forecast a future potential for a surplus, you can't win by then increasing spending more that now. And then more, and then more. Kallend is right also, despite his clear poke at a single type of example - (at least it was one that is blamable on both parties and not the usual himbad/usgood stuff). But you can't have a long term balance if every time you think you have a surplus, or can fake the books to pretend you have a surplus, or just ignore the fact that you might someday get a surplus, you then increase spending even more than the surplus. Or pretend that a TON of spending increases now will magically reduce spending in 12 years... But it's worse than Kallend's comment - we don't "blow the surplus" on a single big item - we blow it on permanent long term spending increases.... ... 8. no....but they do get their own medals apparently today, a hero is anyone that that shows up to work (teachers are heros, cops are heros, etc etc etc) children that call 911 before changing their soiled pants and anyone that gets into a local news story lately - anyone....they just have to be the topic of the story and the intro lead in has the words "local hero" in it "Local beekeeper hero donates honey to food shelter - more at 10". "Local hero mom talks sternly to referee at son's basketball game - tune in at 6". 9. One thing I would wish away in the context of this post is the following pointless exercise (lots of reps though here) A - "I think .........(some word used kinda close to meaning).....blah blah blah" B - "but that word really means -subtle twist to align to personal spin- , so you must ACTUALLY have this despicable position.....so you are wrong" A - "but if that's the case, I MEANT to say (paraphrase) - does that clarify?" [[option here to argue the meaning of the word to salvage the true intent]] B - "I refuse to acknowledge the paraphrase, I'll be an ass and stick with my meaning of the word which invalidates the argument you didn't mean to make and I won't make an effort to discuss your real position. Words are important and if you don't use my twist on it, then you must be an imbecile also" C - "Yeah, (slam poster A)" D - "Fun!! (slam poster A)" E - "People like poster A and their ilk are terrible humans" Dreamdancer - "we don't tax enough" JohnRich - "I like guns" etc If person B isn't making a genuine attempt to apply the concept of 'newspeak' to his advantage, ... ... 10. I don't know your skill levels. BUT, there's an AH Ha! moment when you get good enough. IMHO - 1 - it's easier in the tunnel than in the sky. but the tunnel does highlight mistakes more blatantly 2 - while getting weighted to each other.....you'll see a dramatic increase in scores when you guys are able to fly the blocks in the tunnel without taking grips (no grip block drills). It'll open your eyes. it takes a lot of time and practice - but it's very fun. good luck I was just teasing and being wry about the salad comment. It is a big challenge to get fall rates cleaned up when you have a team of very disproportionate flyers. But....I do find that people don't really have a as much differences as they initially think at first. Get a good mantis camp for everyone and you might find your differences aren't as bad as you think..... The last camp I taught, a couple brothers thought they were real heavy weights. They weren't - though it was quite a challenge to get the one to fly in an arch instead of dearching as was his habit. (just last week, an Airspeed member told him the exact same thing I was coaching him on and that topic - now THAT's good reinforcement). ... 11. that's a very common set of beliefs top to bottom if you also include not having to pay for those choices that you advocate for individuals to have the freedom to make but don't worry - those on the far right will look at it a note the differences and kind of ignore you and try to figure out how to force their social/religious agenda into the fairly libertarian view those on the left will accuse you of lying about the social issues that you 'claim' to align to - and being a closet racist and sexist since you haven't bought fully into the party line and only chose a viewpoint of social acceptance, but not government domination over the individual it's sickening - I'm completely (and sometimes unfairly) turned off by anyone that starts to wander into blind partisanship. It starts with some reasonable discussions, but that never lasts long before they go over into the deep end ... 15. this (or the faster fallers choose salad more often) trying to 'balance' the 'average' fall rate of pieces is a poor banadaid to not getting weighted correctly. Each individual needs to be in their comfort zone without hanging onto another flyer (i.e., you are going to be handcuffed until everyone is in the position to fly no contact/no grip block drills comfortably) this needs to only be about skills compatibility, if you're considering fall rate balancing as part of the equation, then you've already lost the battle ... 25. and audit his taxes Nah, we will have to wait until a Republican gets the Presidency and sics the IRS on liberal groups and alphabet news organizations. Then he will get outraged. IMHO none of them, liberal, conservative, middle of the road... should be exempt from taxes. Every $ not paid by a tax exempt organization has to be covered by another taxpayer. Talk about missing the point. Perhaps, but I see that last comment as very Libertarian of our dear professor and the REAL issue (root cause).
