QuoteI don't see mass killings at gun ranges, NRA meetings, police stations, or (mostly) military installations. ALL of the mass shootings have taken place in GUN FREE ZONES. You generally want to hunt where there are good targets. I would expect the assurance that nobody is armed goes a long way into the planning. These guys don't "snap" either, there is way too much time and meticulous planning for months to years in advance. The reports on Columbine says it took over a year to plan that one. Where the hell are the friends and family that miss the signs of a military type plan taking place? Oddly enough, they sure seem to recall all the signs AFTER an incident. There have been an average of 150 people killed in mass killings per year in the USA for many decades. Yet we have 15,000 single murders. Where is the outrage? Misplaced because of media coverage. Personally, we'd be better served returning to institutionalizing the whackos instead of letting them roam freely. I can only hope the next idiot that wants to kill his mommy and daddy has the decency to kill them at home and leave the populace out of their on hell. Yes, if one of my kids was dfead I'd be fucking livid that they didn't have ANY protection. A fat cop with a radio and a side arm would be a hell of lot more deterrent than the Gun Free Zone sign. Guaranfuckingteed. I agree.

Why do people working at NASA like working at NASA so much?
OHCHUTE replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
You speak of research involving use of stuff on earth. To benefit earthlings. Yet you think space exploration is good use of tax payers dollars? You don't need to do space exploration to learn how to exploit the sun on earth, unless of course if you will put a zillion solar cells in orbit with a wire back to earth to collect all that energy? We had to go to space to invent led's? Last I heard they brought back a spider that rode around for awhile. Perhaps so disabled it can no longer function in the wild. It's down at the Smithsonian. Maybe if we put congress on a spaceship we'll get a better functioning congress--some have signed on I think to SpaceX for a ride. I agree, some research is OK but having to go to space for most of it, is well, a waste of money. -

My research suggest the first to introduce TROLL and does TROLL calling, is a TROLL as they add nothing to the conversation. They either don't understand the conversation or, refuse to understand just to give a rise. And that's being a troll. Now what don't you understanding about job satisfaction for a job that lets you do what you want, not working on things that might be a tad more valuable, such as: rebuilding a coastline after Sandy for inhabitants when it s a known fact that people living there are more suseptable to lung problems from sand filled air. That rebuilding there might not be advisable, let alone the land will be sunken in 100 years once they put it back into the sea to make land out of it! If NASA was required to really work on things that made a difference might reduce our costs, and help us out more. But I suppose worker satisfaction might go down in that regard. -

Come on guys. There's a fundamental shift away from NASA and it might have to do with the work they've been doing: A couple of ounces of Moon dust isn't able to fuel a zillion cars. Finding water on Mars might not be as important as finding a way to put water back into the Colorado. I think it would be fun, and rewarding researching ways to do that! As we enjoy those wonderful exploits lets not allow our own planet to go to ruin as we seek to exploit yet another planet. We've done enough damage here. JeesH Hawiii is being buried at the moment with plastic sand that the whole of NASA might have figured a way to prevent that sunumi! Our seafood supply is under immense threat. OH that's NOAA. Let's hope they're on that one! My argument is about priorities, True, we had to go to the moon to learn about dust, but building a colony there? Why? -
OK so I stopped watching NFL football. Football, football, football. This will be the reason US tanks. Too much emphasis on sports and not enough on science.

OH another perk, get your family members jobs there? COUNTRY CLUB at the expense of the rest of us, who actually work to support this expense. Like I said: what's not to like? -
Our Allies Don't Trust Us, Our Enemies Don't Fear Us
OHCHUTE replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
There is only one enemy to the capitalist. A competitor. Capitalists must now seek ways to make money off of the fundamental shift to socialism. There much money to be made off of supplying the poor and creating services for the have-nots that can be exploited. Right now many capitalists are lining up to fill the healthcare needs due to passing of Affordable Care Act. For those who keep arguing politics, those in business argue best ways to make money. I was behind the iron curtain. I witnessed people making fortunes off of socialism--mostly western business people and the crime bosses that exploited their workers. Bascially, socialism was good for western capitalist. The 'wall fell" upon China's rise to compete with Soviet labor, not that Reagan got the wall to come down. Westerm capitalist had already moved their procurement to China. Keep arguing politics; I'll go make money. Now we're talking. We have to learn to think out of the box. I like firing back at those who keep telling me that I don't have the right to speak my beliefs. It's entertainment. People are so accustomed to not looking at things differently or looking at things correctly. They often ignore different viewpoints to satisfy their own ego. Forget ego, look where the money is going and you get to the truth pretty quick. I wonder how many MADE IN VIETMAN t shirts are left at the WALL in DC? It's surprising so many people are ignoring their image in a mirror? If they didn't they'll not order that triple burger, fries, and the gallon coke. The mind plays trick on you and you must constantly rule your own mind otherwise you'll fall into traps unknowingly. Example: depressed people usually communicate with depressed people so they stay depressed. Fat people usually hang with fat people. If I was really fat and wanted to do something about it, I'd get rid of my fat friends ASAP. Dining with trim fit people would instantly display I was eating way too much and out of peer pressure, and changing of the mind, you'd eat less. -

Your characterization is wrong. You need to define what work is and about what accomplishments are regarding any work. I was talking about fun. Some people view their work as fun and exciting. Frankly, I'd find viewing a monitor of a remote vehicle on mars boring. But having the ability to store the video for later viewing while visiting Hawaii to view mars from a high power telescope might be fun. I'm jealous. No one funds my research, or whim of interest because I'd really like to understand fully the mating habits of sharks around the world that I'd could go visit all the finest dive/fish locations or better yet, since this is a skydiving forum, learn about wings while skydiving that I'd get to do 1,000 jumps with associates at others expense to find out all about it of course we'd have to go to Dubai too to test inversions HA HA. What luxury. It's not a question of laziness, its a question of getting to do stuff you want to do and get paid for it. Who wouldn't consider their job at high satisfaction level? NASA a playground/ toys for tinkerers. Perhaps the coolest place for anyone to work. All the best equipment, toys, stuff to do and study.... don't you wish you worked there? -

There was a recent study as blasted in the media, rating worker satisfaction midst federal agencies. Most agencies showed high dissatisfaction and low moral. NASA however rated worker satisfaction the highest. CAN YOU SEE WHY? Aside from having some activity moved to private contractors, what's not to like about working at NASA? I'd pay to get to do some of the stuff they do at NASA the reason private contractors are working to create private services that people will pay for as there's FUN FUN FUN stuff to do, as WORK, at NASA! -
So now you get 2.6 million cash for your sand lot that was worth 1.2m before Sandy? Now much money do they need. They got rent money, their getting trailers. They are going to get paid for their houses through insurance. I say: pay every property owner 1.2 million and buldoze all the wood in a big pile, have a bonfire, and then: make the coastline a National Park, for everyones enjoyment. No dumb amusment park, just sand and the ocean: how lovely! It's all going to be sunk in 100 years anyway.

He never did. I think BL knew his goose was cooked the day he triggered the twin towers. Although I was not there, I could almost picture Bin Laudins face before he was shot: Oops, got me. Passive and fearless. It's already been reported he didn't put up a fight. -

You can sit there and watch a robot shovel dirt on TV You can go out and crash a plane and see how the crash dumies take it. You can burn stuff in a lab to see when it melts You can sit there and surf the net, read, watch movies for as long as it takes the vehicle to get there. You could go take a scuba dive in the pool. You can go to elementary schools and tell the kids all the fun stuff you do at work You can go along in the plane that works to make people weightless, and even sit in back to become weightless if you want. You can snack on space food in between breaks. You don't even have to go to work while the vehicle is on its way there so long as you can be reached by cell. You can visit a huge telescope in a far off place, like Hawaii to look at the planet up close where you've sent the vehicle. You can go home and wait for the space vehicle to return, then go back to work when the vehicle got here. You can put in 30 years, retire, go home, and get paid as nearly as much as you were getting while at home waiting for vehicle to come home. You can visit the Space Museum on the mall with your kids and point to the craft and say: I put that screw in there and that screw went to the moon and back What's not to like about working at NASA! -

With all the fraud and corruption in American, American's don't even trust Americans. Been ripped off lately by an American? -
No one jumped up to get off. The lady was on her cell, fumbling wiith her purse, and the big bag of mostly eaten food while trying to get her bag. YES HELP THE LADY NOT BY GETTING HER BAG DOWN BUT ADVISE THE LADY TO PUT MORE HANDS TO THE TASK BY HANGING UP the PHONE AND PUTTING ANOTHER HAND ON THE BAG. I"m not too fond of baby shit on my seat either left there by the single parent with 3 kids, Fortunately they got off that we didn't have to listen and smell that mess either as I moved many rows of seats away. Did I SAY PRIVATE JET....

Sounds like someone's jealous because they had to watch someone else eat, while someone's goodie-bag of snacks was left on the kitchen counter. Gotta watch that low-blood sugar, it can make ya short-tempered! I always laugh at the sheep squishin' the isles bellybutton to butt-hole getting all upset because the lady 5 row up with 2 kids in tow is taking more than her 'allotted' 7 seconds to get her stuff and get out. I sit quietly until it thins out and some sanity returns. 70% of 'em are in a big rush to get down to baggage claim so they can wait 15 minutes for their overstuffed suitcases...I usually pass most of the others walking out because I pack light ~ and walk fast. No need for standing at baggage claim when all is carried is carryon. It seems people can't drive, poop, eat, breath, have dinner with friends, etc., without fooling with the damn cell phone. I gather the person she was chatting with already knew her plane had landed. What they didn't know was she was talking to them while trying to get her bags down. Damn if I was going to help her. In fact, I said: Perhaps you might try putting your cell phone away. And she replied: that's a good idea. She did that, and was able to manuver her bag from the overhead so that THE WHOLE PLANE OF PEOPLE COULD GET OFF
-
Yacking on the cell phone while trying to get your bag down and I'M RIGHT BEHIND YOU WANTING TO GET OUT. All this after you ate food constantly from DC to LA. Get your fat ass off the plane will ya.

There must be fallout with FB. I've got an account there but never use it. Now when a former acquaintance that I've not seen in 10 years and has a FB account and conducts a search for me, I end up getting an email note from FB if I know the person and should login and connect. -
Lots of good info here. Thanks. Cheryl Starnes shure blew the theory about only one stable position. She is quite adept at dealing with the wind. Thanks for posting the vid. Yes, stability, smoothness are important. The only reason I've asked this is to determine how I might help the learning curve. Which might be a good thing starting out in any sport. I can't imagine, as big as the sky is, that I'd only do belly down flying as when I was a boy, looking down at the water from the board, I knew there was a lot fun between the board and splashdown. Yes, I think the only fear I'd have is collisions. I'll be last out before any practice runs. Thanks for the input.

That's a back layout. Body is more prone with outstretched arms. That must be fun doing it as slow as you can. Fella at wind tunnel told me it took him about an hour of wind tunnel time to learn to sit fly. Now that's about 60 jumps or more trying to get the hang of it. Is it that hard really to balance sitting? How important are your hands in feathering wind while sitting? Also what is the number one hardest maneuver to do? Just curious.
-
Quote For example, you do tuck your knees to your chest to do a back loop, but the motivational force is when the wind hits your calves/feet, and blows you over backwards. When you go to stop, it's not a matter of timing the relaese so you run out of 'loop' when you're back on heading, it's a matter of coming around and returning to the arch and letting the wind stop you and hold you back in place on your belly. Yes, the visual is a part of the manuver, and it does help with things like head position and holding a heading in the beginning of the learning process, but that goes away eventaully. Since the wind is both the 'home' position and the motivating force in the manuvers, it's possible to do them blindfolded and just use the feel of the wind to guide you. Quote OK so in doing back flip, when you see straight down you're commensing level fight belly down position? as relative wind starts at eyes and works down to belly. Yes I can see where you could do this blind folded. Those sit position/roll, sit must be a bear to get right. Is it possible to do sit/back flip/sit? Actually what is the most difficult maneuver to do right?
-
How important is viewing (seeing) the horizon in ending any maneuver or is relative wind (feeling) more of an indication? If seeing is more, then are hazy days problematic in doing these maneuvers where you can't see the horizon? Plus how unstable could you be if you assume a stable body posture upon entry to ending the maneuver: fists in front of face, body arched, and knees bent 90 degrees?
-
Is doing a back flip the same while skydiving as it is on a high diving board, less the wind of course. Head back and knees into the chin? Or do you need do something completely different to achieve the same maneuver? Same with front flip, chin tucks down into chest and knees up to chin. Just wondering.

Hey Republicans - where are the spending cuts?

It has to do with extraordinary rules afforded to representatives not available to the general public. Trading on inside info. Knowing about policy coming down the pike like: We'll be excluding BP from drilling Jan 1 2012 in US territory. Don't you think BP stock will take a hit after Congress places the limit. Meaning Mr. Congressperson sells their BP before Jan 1.
