Of course a third grader, can make choices on the type of eduction and where they might be educated that YOU'LL continue to teach at home. So we wait for "ONE DAY", a day that you decide the child gets to make up there own mind. Sorry but the opportunity for your child is lost to be properly socialized with other kids. Please keep you guns locked up as you kids will hate you for not allowing them to be with other kids!

Actually, I am serious. Are you reading my posts? Seems not. YOU are the one who thinks there are no other students around. I've told you otherwise. Your choice to comprehend it or not. I can't force you to. My child, and others, are homeschooled by *gasp* teachers (such as my wife) who have left the education system because it's such a mess and they're despondent with the state of education in the USA today. Trust me, I understand your skepticism. I too was uneducated in these matters. Difference is, I knew it, and I didn't run around spouting nonsense about something I didn't understand. Ian edit: FWIW, we let our child make the choice about homeschooling vs public and our intention is continue doing so. I expect one day she'll want to go to public school and I FULLY support that too. Well if your WIFE was a former elementary school teacher then you might have a case, provided she's good at it. The point I brought up was socialization which is differnt from instruction given and instruction received. Ms Lanza knew all about socializaing kids. Hell, she didn't even let her son have a car and her x paid for one! Home schooling didn't work out so good in this instance. I gather this parent was so protective the kid wanted out of her control! He ended up hating her. Perhaps if MOM had her own job, not the job of dealing with her son, events might have been different. Pure conjecture of course, but info points in that direction. But she didnt' have to work. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/17/nancy-lanza-conn-adam-lanza/1774611/

I'm an atheist, my parents are Christian however. My parents respect my choices, as I do theirs. Your argument lacks logic since a parent, home or public schooled, who is going to force religion on their children will do so regardless of schooling methodologies. True. But again, those teachings will happen (if the parent is so inclined) regardless of schooling system. Bad parents are going to be bad parents, regardless of schooling systems. Ian But an elementary school teacher won't tell kids to believe in Jesus or how to load an AR at school! Jeesh. You can't be serious! Besides, how would a parent know if their kid was GIFTED, that they might attend the GIFTED class? Parent really can't evaluate progress as there's no other students around. How about retraining, testing etc. Unless if the parent has received instruction in how to teach and knows the subject matter they shouldn't be the instructor, same that your mom probably shouldn't be the one teaching you how to skydive, Jesus or no Jesus.

Agreed. Errr....no. Plenty of current studies show differently. I see a lot of people say this...hell I used to say this too.....but my experience with homeschooling is that the child gets just as much socialization with other children (note: My homeschool experiences are in groups so it's not some kid locked away at home on their own). There's play time, and education time - just like a regular school. Can homeschooling be used to isolate children? Of course, but that's a parenting problem not a homeschooling problem. Opinions != facts. Ian OK so you got some socialization while home schooled. So your parents had degrees in education and were experienced in supplying education, testing, evualating etc., that you turned out OK? What distinctions can you make between a parent who teaches its children the same circulum as kids get in school. A home teacher (parent) might employee parenting aspects while supplying instruction, including IAN-- go to your room, your not agreeing that Jesus was the savior! God only knows what parents are teaching their kids while homeschooling, maybe even how to use an AR! Kids need to be in school. IMHO.

No. It makes no sense whatsoever. Here's the problem. The gunmen . . . they're crazy. Simply having to face a non-professional at some point seemed to be part of the plan in both the theater shooting and the school shooting. In both cases the gunmen wore a bit of armor, but when confronted with professionals they offed themselves. They don't seem to care too much about dying via retaliatory gunfire, it seems to be part of their plan it will be their final act they will end their own lives. Nonetheless no matter if they're blown away first or they take their own life, which ever comes first, doesn't matter so long they are ended in their mission BEFORE harm to others. Retribution is not any goal in stopping the perp.

Pretty ignorant statement there buddy. Homeschooling != isolation. To confuse the two simply shows a lack of understanding on your part. Note: I'm not saying she didn't isolate, or homeschool for that matter, but the association you make between the two is misinformed at best. Ian Neither you nor I know what happened in that house. But from all studies, kids that are home schooled don't get the same positive effects of socialization as kids get at school. Those are facts.

Employ more speed cameras and take the cops off traffic patrol and put them at the point of entry at schools. Take cops off drug patrol. God sakes 40 cops to put a shirtless guy in the back of a squad car for a couple of joints all while cops are realitiy TV stars. End home schooling. That way we know where the kids are: in school away from their crazy parents who have absolutely no training in instruction or education who think schools are evil influence.

I payed with five years of my life. I have two pins and four screws and shrapnel in my leg so that we could live in a place where all of us could voice our opinion. Have you defended these rights? have you risked your life for this country? Are you saying that your money or the amount of money you pay in taxes actually equals more than what I payed with or was willing to pay with? I am a gun owner and proud to be one but am still willing to listen, admit when someone opposing me has a point, and believe that we all need to compromise. 1. Gun owners need to be held accountable. Your not getting to mine unless you can break into a 800 lb safe or take the one I carry off me. (you'd have to know I had it on me first of course). 2. I believe it is wrong in this country to hold any group accountable for the actions of a few. (this is what is happening here). I've owned guns since I was of legal age and have carried for over 17 years. I have never broken any gun laws and have actually been involved in a fatal shooting. 3. Adam's mother had concerns about his mental health. My guns are not available to anyone let alone someone I am concerned about. The failure is RIGHT HERE! All the gun laws in place did not allow this MURDERER to have a gun. I don't like speaking ill of the dead but HIS IRRESPONSIBLE MOTHER DID. What I want to know from people who this gun laws will stop this is how does what this sicko did end up on my shoulders. that makes no sense. We guard our money better than we guard our children. we do this with guns. we guard our politicians with guns also. If guns were completely outlawed to you think our politicians would stop using security? would our banks and armored cars stop having armed guards? Heroin, cocaine, and many other drugs are ILLEGAL and yet prevalent and responsible for many more deaths in this country. They are also responsible for much of the crime to support the drug habit. As far as I know we are absolutely failing to stop the inflow of drugs into this country so why does anyone think that gun laws will stop guns from getting into the hands of someone hell bent on mass killing? I'm willing to listen and talk about this with people who oppose my opinion and will absolutely concede a good point from anyone if you are willing to do the same. She was held accountable: guns were not locked up and the perp killed her with her gun. Besides she should have abandonded home schooling years ago so that her child might have been more fully socialized. She was way too protective of her kid and that backfired.

Methinks, your nation needs more schools resp. better grammatical education. Here I fixed it for you. Doomed; that rights are further taken from us.
-
A lot of do gooders in USA home school as they think school is corrupt, evil, etc. They think they can do a better job. This parent kept her son home till 7th grade. No wonder he went nuts. Being locked up at home with a fearful mom, not getting socialized at school could be the reason. BAN HOME SCHOOLING
-
Does "doomed" include miniature people who are already dead and currently lying in morgues, or just those who ain't dead yet? Doomed; that rights are further taken from us.
-
Yes Mr. President--it has to stop. Ban the reason for mass killings

The TRUE SOURCE of RANDOM & MASS SHOOTINGS and VIOLENCE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhO0Pul_FcE&feature=youtu.be -
If you think that gun owners are proud of mass murderer you are pretty stupid. So what did you do to prevent the youth from killing his mom and taking her guns. This was after gun control worked that he was denied buying a gun. Looks like your gun control didn't work in this instance. What are you going to do, stand a liberal goon in the kitchen to ensure the kid doesn't take her guns, or perhaps you think she shouldn't have any guns. I take it you're not a competitive shooter in the Olympics, or participate in shooting sports? I can't control what you write on here and that doesn't make me culpable, or anyone else, for that matter, for your idiotic statements.

One can't deny that there is a common theme of targeting places where there are a large number of potential victims, which would prominently include schools, malls, movie theaters, and fast food "restaurants". People bent on mass murder go to those places, it would be logical to assume, for the same reason bank robbers rob banks (because that's where the money is). Most of those places have a no-guns policy, I'm guessing because of concerns about liability issues. Alternatively, people commit mass murder at a place that has a specific connection to them, such as a work place. Are you aware of any incidents where it is known for a fact that the killer targeted a specific site because of a "gun-free" policy? Can you point me to any study that has compared the risk of a mass murder incident occurring in movie theaters/shopping malls with a "gun-free" vs "gun-friendly" policy? A single study that suggests that permitting concealed carry makes a movie theater or shopping mall or school less likely to be targeted? I doubt that people who plan such attacks are thinking at the level of calculating the risk that they will be stymied by a private citizen. Either they are motivated by a specific attachment to a place (such as a place of work), seeking revenge against people who have "done them wrong", or they go to where there a lot of people they can take by surprise. In most cases it seems the perpetrators are trying to make some sort of a statement, though what that is may not be apparent to anybody else, and they don't expect to live through the incident (often killing themselves), so it seems unlikely that they would be put off by the chance of being resisted by an armed civilian or even the police. Don It's a society problem that really can't be overcome entirely. Even if teachers were armed and people sitting in theaters were armed, a suicide killer will have the upperhand. Look what happened in AZ. There were cops in the audience and the guy managed to kill so many and he never got a scratch. A fact of life. Ban cell phone use in cars and you'll save waaaaay more people. I'm all for CELL PHONE CONTROL. And keeping eye on the door an eye for nutjobs no matter where I am, even in CHURCH, as we all know plenty of nutty religious people including the church lady at our church who called up the school last year and said she was going to blow it up!

Since prolific gun ownership is not the problem, you have no point What is the problem then please? You mentioned a few things earlier, yet other developed nations suffer exactly the same problems you described, as I pointed out, but without frequent massacres. I believe the other poster proved you incorrect in regards to frequency I believe the other poster has yet to provide the evidence. Whether he does or not, it doesn't detract from the simple fact the high frequency of US massacres. You've still to address my earlier question. Please do so; I'm all ears. You start from a flawed premise. Guns are not the issue Not that you care Well, could you be so kind as to tell me what you believe is the issue then? I actually do care; don't be like that...

Should have been Charles Schumer in that diner with that woman. His little smirk. Obviously he didn't get the point. The woman's speech made a lot of sense. We need fight gun control or we are doomed.

I'm not OK with this. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot all used these techniques to put down "terriorists." Stalin killed millions of his own people who were labeled terrorists/ anti-govt etc. Since 9-11 the Feds have taken extreme liberties in doing things against our Constitution all claiming the need to protect us.

MSNBC Video: Lanza reportedly tried to buy rifle, was denied Yeah, you want to try that one again, professor? OH, then he must have used a knife. No, wait, he got it from his Mom, a gun nut herself. Wouldn't you think a self-confessed gun enthusiast would have been smart enough to secure her firearms when she knew she had a son with "mental problems" (to quote the gunman's brother). No, neither would I, based on what I see written by gun nuts on here. Oh, so now you admit there's nothing wrong with the background check and purchasing system in this country? Don't you hate it when facts get in the way of your argument? Nope - as the many other massacres by crazy people have shown. This is NOT the ONLY massacre to have occurred. You have a conveniently short memory. Maybe THIS will jog it. The kid stoled the gun from his mom, the gun owner. Gun owners bare the responsibility to ensure the guns are properly locked up. I recommend removing the guns in a home where there are depressed, unstable youth. A relative can keep your guns until the youth moves out and we all know as parents we want the kids to move out!

"Forcing his way in" needs defined. Did he break through the locked door. Did he throw a chair through a window to get in. If he had to force his way in then the controls were not adaquate. What does snarky mean? Also, not checking a new post on Wipi that is so lacking of information doesn't mean you are lazy. I"m telling you there are elementry schools across this nation that are completely open. The Amish school in PA was open. Guy walked right in and killed a bunch of kids. I say, make it really really hard for the perp to gain access. And if you can't do that, then my kids get home schooled.
-
I guess no one thought about locking the door. OH, just let the elementary school wide open! I can remember when my kids went to elementary school. I had to take something there on day for one of the kids. I walked right in and headed straight to the office and dropped off the item as good parents are suppose to do. Now I could have walked right in, turn to the left, past the gym, down the hall and entered a class room, any classroom at will carrying just about anything I wanted. I could have wheeled a wheelbarrow in there without notice. Access control should have been in place and I'm surprised since Columebine all schools and universities should be locked down. The bad guys first think about how to get in. If you make it hard, then, it makes there mission more difficult if not impossible.
-
What happened to my post? Anyway, this school and every other school in the USA should have access control at points of entry. There's just too many NUTJOBS and too many guns and you're not going to get rid to NUBJOBS and guns but you can control access to where there are sitting ducks. DO IT THE FUK NOW, before some other copy cat tries to outdo this murderer. Gov't once again has failed us. The school is government run and they failed in allowing the perp to enter the building. Fix the problem and lock the doors!

Worse. Gabon/ Georgia is already here. Now that is cause for concern.

QuoteI doubt Susan Rice withdrew herself. Rather, I think that the administration told Susan Rice to withdraw herself so they wouldn't have to withdraw her. This wasn't a "woman" issue, though.[/reply} I gather that's the conversation Obama had with Rice right before she withdrew herself. You see people talk a lot different in private than they do before the camera: "Susan, you fu ked up. You got to go. I'll make you Ambassador to x if you want it.. la de da...

While alot of you are worried about above ground effects, I'm particularly concerned with what is happening underground. With all the earth quakes happening along the fault line, land might end up back where it once was. God forbid Philadelphia will end up in Gabon.

More people die in this country due to cell phone use. So I'm fearful of the person in the Suv ON THE CELL, AS SHE'S TRYING TO CUT OVER INTO MY LANE THIS VERY EVENING WHILE GOING TO WALL MART. Most all elementary schools around here have security. You need buz the front desk to get in. They need eliminate the sale of body armor, using body armor, trading in body armor, owning body armor. Makes it difficult to get a shot on the bad guy, And only bad guy's are wearing body armor around the mall or school district.
